Game progress: june 2025
It’s officially been a month since I started working on Trunkload, and I'm still having so much fun with it!
The project hasn’t lost any of its shine for me and I feel like I’m finding my rhythm. Things are clicking into place, ideas are flowing, and I’m genuinely proud of what’s taking shape.
There’s still a lot to do, but seeing it come to life little by little is incredibly rewarding. Writing: I’ve been focusing all my energy on Chapter 1 lately. It’s currently made up of 9 distinct scenes—5 of them are fully written, while the remaining 3 are currently being written, and the last has yet to be started. I've also planned three possible premature endings (including a hidden one)...
Coding: Okay, maybe setting a one-month deadline to code all of Chapter 1 was a bit... ambitious. Thing is, I keep adding new layers, little moments, and ultra-specific triggers—and naturally, that takes time. That said, I’m so proud of how it’s shaping up, and I genuinely can’t wait for you to experience it all.
Art: Drawing isn’t exactly my strong suit, so I’ve admittedly pushed that part aside for now.... But with ArtFight coming up in July, I’m hoping to practice more and step up my game!
Sound: We’re still working on the soundtrack with Opusblame. I shared a WIP track a couple days ago. Let us know what you think (does it feel 80s enough?)
Goals for the July update:
Finish writing Chapter 1
Hopefully finish coding it too (?)
And keep sharing dev content regularly on here.
See you on the road.

Fun fact #2
Ok, a little more details on fun fact#1: At one point in Trunkload, Matt casually asks the MC for their name.
On the surface? It’s a pretty basic interaction. In reality? It’s a tiny branching nightmare.
The reaction you get depends on: ▸ the name you choose ▸ your gender ▸ whether you’ve lied or refused before ▸ how Matt and/or Jake feel about you ▸ and your hidden stats (yes, those again)
It’s a short scene, but the dialogue remembers you.

Fun fact #1
Matt and Jake currently have six different reactions depending on the name you give your MC. Some are weird. Some are… worse. It's up to you to find them all.
(next monthly update on the 20th!)

Trunkload's best summary
start by driving your car
you: few memories, little spurts of paranoia, questionable morals trunk: surprise corpse solution? pick up two strangers. Obviously. matt: talks too much, the wrong idea at the wrong time, hot in a "will definitely ruin your life" way jake: silent, overthinks, built like a haunted coat rack you: trying to figure out if you’re a good person while covered in someone else’s blood also you : might be a murderer. maybe. who knows. life is full of mystery
bonding activities include: • burying bodies • dodging cops • trauma oversharing • maybe kissing? maybe stabbing? depends on you
good luck with that

Update: Finished the sketch and placed all the interior elements—dashboard included (which was a nightmare). This covers the static part. Next: sketching the road (because of course it needs to move outside the windows) and figuring out what shows up in the rearview mirrors. It’s gonna be so fun! (no. pls send help)

Game progress: may 2025
A year ago, I posted the last Monthly Update of my previous project before it was abandoned. Today, I'm proud to welcome you to Trunkload's first update. And I'm even prouder to say I'm further along than I've ever been on a game.
Writing: The game is divided into five chapters. I already have a detailed outline of each of them. Now it's just a matter of turning those bones into scenes! Coding: Chapter 1 is progressing well, and I’m giving myself a one-month deadline to finish coding it entirely. Art: If I counted right, there are about twenty backgrounds to draw. As for the sprites... let’s just say I stopped counting for my own sanity... Sound: My friend and talented Opusblame is helping me with the OST. We’ve got a first complete track and several more in progress. You’ll get to hear them one by one in the future.
Thank you for sticking around, especially if you’ve followed me since the last project. I hope Trunkload will surprise you and maybe haunt you a little. I’ll keep posting sneak peeks, sketches, polls and more so stay tuned.
See you on the road.

How to read the Monthly Update?
Hi ! Here's the Trunkload development progress template you'll see every 20th of the month.
What do the Monthly Update bars mean?
Writing This covers the narrative design of the game: dialogues, branching paths, endings, and in-game texts. Progress here means more scenes are being written, revised, or finalized. The game will be divided into five chapters.
Coding Everything related to the game's logic and structure. That includes implementing choices, stat systems, transitions, screens, and debugging. The more this bar is filled, the more playable the game becomes.
Art Visual assets in progress! This includes backgrounds, character sprites, CG but also menus, GUI elements, icons, and anything else you'll see on screen.
Sound This includes original music tracks (with 80s vibes), ambiance design, and sound effects: everything that sets the mood and enhances the atmosphere. All OSTs will be original works by my friend Opusblame.
Of course: as development progresses, the bars will fill up.

We have not heard from you in a while, hope you're doing well dev, we're looking forward to what you have planned next! : D
Hey! I know I vanished for a while... thank you so much for noticing, and for your kind message. The truth is, I’ve been pouring all my energy into a new project, and it’s finally starting to take shape. Trunkload has become something I’m really excited to share, and from now on, I’ll be updating you much more regularly (I'm so exciteeeed!). I'm working on it every single day, and the first monthly update is just around the corner! (I have to redo the template but it'll be quick)
If you're curious about the game, I just posted a little teaser here: 🔗 Trunkload Teaser, feel free to give it a look!
Also, unlike Heartsnatchers, I’ll be keeping the askbox open from now on! Whether you have questions, theories, or just want to say hi, I’d love to hear from you. More soon!

TRUNKLOAD
A psychological horror visual novel ❝ You're driving. Alone, or so you wish. ❞
There's something -someone- in the trunk. Your hands are steady on the wheel, but your mind is blank. You don't know where you're going—only that you can’t stop.
And then, two hitchhikers appear by the side of the road. Now they’re in your car. In your life. In your head.
One won’t shut up. The other barely talks. They're not normal. But neither are you.
The longer the night stretches, the more cracks appear. In them, you’ll glimpse the truth. When morning comes, you’ll remember who you are.
Maybe you shouldn’t have stopped. But you did. --------------------------------------------------------------- 🎮 Features:
🧠 Psychological horror : unravel your own identity and morality through layered choices 🚗 Road trip through the unknown : a single night, a long drive, no map 🕹️ Choices matter : multiple hidden stats influence your perception, dialogues, and endings 🌈 80s atmosphere : neon lights, tape hiss, and heavy smoke 🔀 Multiple endings : no clean escape, only consequences 🧩 Dynamic narrative : who you are depends on what you do ---------------------------------------------------------------
⚠️ Content Warnings:
Violence (80s) Discrimination Manipulation / Mind break Paranoia / Hallucination Death / Murder Implied abuse Non-Con ---------------------------------------------------------------
Work in progress, more to come. Player discretion advised. Reblog appreciated.

Back at the wheel. New road ahead.
Hey everyone, It’s been a while since I posted here... A lot has changed—some of it unexpected, some of it necessary. I returned to the project a while ago. It took me some time to decide what to keep, what to replace… And now I finally know where I'm going! Say goodbye to “Heartsnatchers” and hello to “Trunkload”.
The game is in full development now: scriptwriting, ost, art… it’s all happening. Expect more news, updates, and maybe some weird little secrets hidden along the way from now. I'll be posting (more serious) visuals and a teaser later this week.
In the meantime, thanks for still being here. I can't wait to show you more. - Granulait

Do you plan to find help for the creation of this new game project?
I'd like to try to do everything as much as possible. I want to learn new skills but if, despite my efforts, I feel that I'm stagnating, I won't hesitate to call on more competent artists I guess (I'm thinking of ost composition or coding classes for exemple).
