It had been months since Y/N and Minho officially started dating, and while their relationship felt stronger than ever, there were still moments when reality reminded them they were nearing the end of school. College applications, family expectations, and the uncertainty of what came next loomed over them.

One afternoon, as they sat together in their favorite café after school, Minho stirred his iced coffee absentmindedly, his expression unusually serious.

Y/N frowned, nudging his leg under the table. “You’re quiet today. What’s up?”

He exhaled, setting his straw down. “I’ve just been thinking a lot about the future.”

Y/N’s stomach twisted slightly. “What about it?”

Minho looked at her, hesitation flickering in his eyes. “We’ve been together for a while now, and things have been amazing. But… we’re graduating soon. We might end up at different universities.”

Y/N swallowed hard. She had tried not to think about it too much, but the reality was, they hadn’t talked about what would happen after high school.

She forced a small smile. “Are you… worried we won’t work if we go to different schools?”

Minho hesitated before shaking his head. “No. I just don’t want distance to change us. I love what we have, Y/N/N.” He reached across the table, taking her hand. “I don’t want to lose it.”

Y/N squeezed his fingers, her heart aching at how vulnerable he looked. “Minho, just because things will change doesn’t mean we will. You’re my best friend and my boyfriend. No matter what happens, I want us to figure it out together.”

He studied her for a moment before his lips quirked into a small smile. “You always know exactly what to say to calm me down.”

She grinned. “It’s a talent.”

Minho chuckled, lifting her hand to press a kiss to her knuckles. “Then let’s make a promise.”

Y/N tilted her head. “What kind of promise?”

“That no matter what, we’ll fight for this. We won’t let distance or stress or whatever else comes our way ruin what we have.” His voice was firm, but his grip on her hand was gentle.

Y/N felt warmth spread through her chest. “Deal.”

They sealed it with a pinky promise, like they had since they were kids.

As idyllic as their relationship seemed, Y/N and Minho soon discovered that dating your best friend didn’t mean everything would be perfect. They had disagreements, just like any other couple.

One night, Minho had to cancel their plans last minute because of a late study session with Dae.

“I don’t mind you being busy,” Y/N said over the phone, trying to keep her tone light. “But you could’ve told me earlier. I rearranged my whole day.”

“I didn’t know I’d be studying so late,” Minho replied, his voice tinged with frustration. “It’s not like I wanted this to happen.”

“I know,” Y/N said, sighing. “It’s just… I feel like we haven’t spent much time together lately.”

There was a pause before Minho spoke again, softer this time. “I miss you too, babe. How about I come over tomorrow, no matter what? We’ll order your favorite takeout and watch whatever cheesy rom-com you pick.”

Y/N smiled despite herself. “Fine. But you owe me extra popcorn.”

Sorry for not posting the rest of Between Us I got sick and missed a week of school and had to catch up on all the work I missed and I had to deal with my job but I’ll hopefully post the rest this week 🤞 if I don’t yell at me to post it like just got a bit busy for me (I still have a bunch of assignments to do) But yeah! Y/N, of course, took every opportunity to gush about how “perfect” they were together. She even started posting candid pictures of Y/N and Minho on her Instagram stories, captioning them with things like #CoupleGoals and Finally Happened.

One night at a group dinner, Kitty raised her glass again. “Honestly, I think you guys are the blueprint for all best-friends-to-lovers stories. Like, when are you going to write a book about it?”

Minho chuckled, squeezing Y/N’s hand under the table. “I’ll leave the writing to Y/N. She’s better at that kind of stuff.”

Y/N rolled her eyes but smiled. “Thanks for the pressure, Kitty. If I write a book, you’re doing the press tour for me.”

Kitty gasped. “Deal!”

Even Q, who had been skeptical at first, admitted one night after a few drinks, “Okay, you guys actually make me believe that dating your best friend isn’t a terrible idea. Just don’t mess it up, okay? You’re like the glue holding this group together.”

The way he always saved her the last bite of his dessert, even though he loved sweets more than she did. How he would wordlessly drape his jacket over her shoulders when she forgot hers. The way he listened, really listened, to everything she said, no matter how mundane.

One night, as they lay in bed, Minho absentmindedly traced patterns on her arm.

“Do you ever think about how this could’ve happened sooner?” Y/N asked.

Minho shrugged. “Sure. But I think we got here at the right time. Any earlier, and we might not have been ready for this.”

Y/N considered that, then nodded. “I guess you’re right. Besides, it gave me time to realize how much better I am than all the girls you dated before me.”

They spent the winter wrapped in cozy blankets at Minhos’s dorm room, binge-watching their favorite shows and sneaking kisses between episodes. When spring arrived, they explored the city together, hand in hand, discovering new cafes and laughing at inside jokes only they understood.

One warm afternoon, Minho surprised Y/N with a picnic in the park. The blanket was haphazardly laid out, and he’d forgotten utensils for the sandwiches, but the thoughtfulness of it melted her heart.

“This is so you,” Y/N teased, taking a bite of her food with her hands.

“Romantic and resourceful?” Minho asked, grinning.

“Chaotic but sweet,” she corrected, leaning in to kiss his cheek.

Everyone laughed and clinked their glasses, and Y/N couldn’t help but smile as Minho slipped his hand into hers under the table.

Later that night, as they walked home, Y/N leaned into Minho’s side, feeling the warmth of his arm around her shoulders.

“Do you think this surprises anyone?” she asked, looking up at him.

He chuckled. “Probably not. But who cares?”

“I don’t,” she said, grinning.

“Good,” Minho said, pausing to press a kiss to her forehead. “Because I’m not letting you go.”
