Dinner in LA: Trying something new, from the #mandalaycookbook — nga thalaut paung ငါးသလောက်ပေါင်း — a slow simmered Burmese fish dish. Originally made with hilsa (I’ll have to look out for it the next time I’m at an Asian grocery store), the cookbook suggests mackerel as a substitute. The fish didn’t quite fall apart as the recipe said it would, but the bones did get soft enough to eat.
