Well, it was a bit of a nice change from the usual responses she got in regards to her appearance. From people asking if she’s in costume, to straight up avoiding her. Someone’s been through some stuff, huh? Regardless, Mercenary returned the slightly bored stare. Not a lot of work as of late, and no one worth hunting for sport. Hmph.

“ ‘Slightly‘ is an understatement, kid.” She responded bluntly, leaning against the flickering light post with her arms crossed. Let’s see, guns, an axe, only one eye…. yeah she fits the description pretty well.

“…I would, if I knew myself.” Truth be told, she doesn’t know where the hell she is. She’s not used to places outside the City, even if this town was infinitely better than that place. “But I can at least say that I’m not the kind of dangerous person that randomly attacks people without a reason. If that’s… any sort of consolation.”

She’s not good at not being threatening, but she’s trying her best. Better being stuck with her than potentially someone else, though…

❝  oh  ...  that’s  good,  i  guess.  ❞  it’s  not  that  they  want  her  to  attack  them  without  a  reason  (  they  don’t,  )  just  that  they  can’t  find  it  in  themself  to  care  one  way  or  the  other.  you’d  struggle  to  do  that  if  you  couldn’t  feel  anything,  too.  instead,  they  focus  on  what  she’d  said  first,  blink  twice  and  hit  her  with  those  never - changing  gray  eyes  of  theirs.  ❝  does  that  mean  you’re  lost,  too ?  we  can  walk  together,  if  you  want.  maybe  you  live  close  to  me.  ❞  leave  it  to  katsuhira  to  invite  a  dangerous  person  to  keep  them  company  ...  or,  rather,  to  offer  their  company  to  a  dangerous  person.  say  what  you  will  about  the  high  schooler,  but  even  if  they  seem  widely  apathetic,  their  generosity  knows  no  bounds.

before  she  can  answer,  katsuhira  looks  away  again,  tries  to  see  the  stars  but  isn’t  surprised  that  the  city  creates  too  much  light  for  that  to  happen.  they  interject  once  more  to  add,  in  this  oddly  softened  tone,  ❝  no  one’s  waiting  for  me  at  home.  i  was  starting  to  think  something  bad  might  happen  to  me.  ❞  not  worried,  exactly,  just  ...  thinking  about  it.  still,  the  implications  are  the  same  either  way:  they’re  glad  to  have  run  into  someone  who  seems  nice.  (  perhaps  their  bar  for  nice  is  a  tad  low,  but  that’s  not  a  can  of  worms  that  we  need  to  open  right  now.  )

whenever  katsuhira  is  out  late,  they  can’t  help  but  think  of  hisomu  —  his  friend  (  unlikely  as  that  is  )  who  takes  pride  in  finding  slightly - dangerous  places,  where  slightly - dangerous  people  flock  &  slightly - dangerous  things  occur.  of  course,  that’s  a  little  too  much  slight - danger  for  katsuhira  ...  not  because  it  scares  them,  but  because  it’s  confusing.  they  don’t  like  saying  words  too  much,  for  it  depresses  them  when  the  poor  syllables  begin  to  lose  their  meaning.  in  a  way,  that’s  what  separates  them  from  hisomu  —  where  he  takes  those  risks  and  counts  his  losses,  katsuhira  plays  it  safe  because  they  don’t  really  see  a  reason  to  do  much  else.  they  go  through  the  motions,  and  they’re  not  sure  if  they  care  what  happens  to  them  either  way.

so  ...  you  might  be  wondering  what  they’re  doing  out  on  the  dark  streets  anyway,  but  the  answer’s  a  pretty�� simple  one.  they  were  looking  for  someone’s  house,  &  they  got  lost.  that’s  just  to  be  expected  from  someone  as  dense  as  they  are  —  they  must  completely  lack  a  sense  of  direction,  and  they  wouldn’t  argue  if  you  implied  that  they  did.  it’s  the  middle  of  the  night  by  now,  and  they’re  pretty  sure  they’re  going  in  circles,  but  katsuhira  is  ...  calm.  eerily  so,  even.  that’s  just  what  apathy  does  to  you,  maybe,  but  who  out  here  would  know  them  so  intimately ?

&  that’s  why,  when  they  spot  someone,  the  high  schooler  pauses  and  tilts  their  head  in  a  way  that  doesn’t  quite  make  them  look  curious.  they  seem  bored,  as  if  this  development  wasn’t  enough  for  them.  too  bad  hisomu  isn’t  here  to  see  this,  right ?  ❝  oh  ...  you  must  be  a  slightly - dangerous  person,  ❞  they  decide,  &  without  skipping  a  beat,  they  break  their  eyes  from  the  hooded  stranger  to  refocus  on  a  buzzing,  flickering  streetlight  in  her  place.  then,  they  close  their  eyes.  talk  about  trusting.  ❝  um,  are  you  the  kind  of  slightly - dangerous  person  who’ll  tell  me  what  street  this  is ?  ❞
