Using Astrology to Discover Your Special Brand of Witchcraft
I’m going to try to keep this fairly simple, since I just made a very long post about indicators of psychic power/witchcraft ability in the natal chart, so here are some general things I can say:
The easiest one is to go by elements: water signs for water craft, air signs for air craft, earth signs for earth craft, and fire signs for fire craft.
Beyond that, I would look at the information below for your Sun, Moon and Rising signs, and consider combining all three disciplines into your craft, as you very likely have a special talent or pull towards each:
Aries: warrior witchcraft (fighting for what you believe in, protecting what you care about), blood magic, candle magic, charging objects, amulets and talismans
Taurus: cottage witchcraft (making your home your sanctuary), crystal magic, herbalism, nature craft, prosperity spells
Gemini: hedge witchcraft (moving between liminal planes), astral projection, herbalism, energy magic, communication spells, travel blessings
Cancer: lunar witchcraft, kitchen craft, spellwork, medicinal herbalism, prophecy, love spells
Leo: solar witchcraft (working magic on the solstices, equinoxes and sabbats), hypnosis, charms and hexes, sex magic
Virgo: garden/green witchcraft, herbalism, solitary craft, grounding, transmutation, healing
Libra: art/creative witchcraft (expressing yourself through magic and putting your unique vision into your craft), music craft, spellwork, charms
Scorpio: shadow craft (becoming acquainted with the dark side of yourself and channeling that energy), nocturnal magic, primal magic, energy manipulation
Sagittarius: wildcraft (combines green witchery with herbalism, adding a special focus on medicinal herbalism and outdoor meditation), weather craft, energy work, travel magic
Capricorn: kitchen witchcraft, green witchcraft, elemental craft, tech witchcraft, ancestral magic, work/career spells
Aquarius: astro/cosmic witchcraft (astrology, astronomy, the planets and skies), bond-breaking spells, breaking negative spells or curses
Pisces: empath witchcraft (using your energy to help and understand others), fairy magic, flower craft, dream manipulation, empowerment spells

How to Not Start a Story
(With some information from @belles-library)
I remember back in grade 5, in the classroom, practicing story intros. “You need to hook the reader,” my teacher said. “Maybe use an onomatopoeia. A good amount of information. Questions work well!” My teacher, however, was teaching us very primitive writing skills.
So, here’s a brief list on
✨How to Not Start a Story✨!
Onomatopoeia: this is especially if it’s an obscure sound or a ring-ring. It doesn’t have the punch or magnitude you’re looking for.
Full names: it might seem like a smart way to drop the main character’s name, but it’s a tired cliché and belongs in 2013 where it came from.
Mirror-scene: this was one of the most over-used clichés in writing female YA characters from around 2007-15. It’s where she stands (usually naked, for some reason) in front of a mirror and starts listing off what she looks like. Bonus points if, after the vivid description of how gorgeous she is, she claims to be the ugliest monster on the face of the Earth.
Over-descriptions: we don’t need a vivid description of the rainclouds unless it’s going to be integral later. Make the beginning more fast-pace to keep attention.
Info-dump: as we all know, info-dumps are to be avoided completely if it’s possible, so why would you put it at the beginning of the story where the reader wants to get in fast? Don’t overwhelm them. Start it quick.
Characters: don’t introduce anywhere more than 3-5 characters in the first scenes. Introducing just 3 new characters we know next to nothing about is pretty hard. Any more and the reader’s going to be confused and stop reading.
Death: although it’s a hooking strategy, I still don’t recommend it. If your plan has been to make the character die from before, try to do it sometime later in the story. Although it has some punch to it, the reader won’t care much about their death because they haven’t formed a connection with them yet. The later they die, the stronger the hurt.
If you manage to avoid these openings, there’s a good chance your introduction will be a nice, hooking one and live up to the great ideas you have for your WIP.

People talk a lot about how reading is necessary for writing, but when you really want to improve your writing, it’s important to go beyond just simple reading. Here are some things to do when reading:
Note how they begin and end the story. There are a ton of rather contradictory pieces of advice about starting stories, so see how they do it in the stories you enjoy. Don’t only look at the most popular stories, but look at your more obscure favorites.
See what strikes you. Is it fast or complicated scenes with a lot of emotions? Is it stark lines? Pithy dialogue? What do you remember the next day?
Pay attention to different styles. It’s not just whether they use past or present tense, first or third person. It’s whether the writing is more neutral or deeper inside character’s heads. Do they use italics? Parentheses? Other interesting stylistic choices? Take the ones you like and try them out in your own writing. See what works and what doesn’t.
Keep track of how they deal with other characters. Do we see a lot of secondary character each for very brief periods of time or are there a couple that show up a lot? How much information do we get about secondary characters? Do they have their own plots or do their plots revolve entirely around the main characters?
Count how many plots there are. Is there just one main plot or are there multiple subplots? Are the storylines mostly plot-based or character-based?
Pay attention to what you don’t like. If you don’t like what’s going on in a book or even just a scene, note what it is. Does the dialogue feel awkward? Are the characters inconsistent? Does the plot feel too convenient or cobbled together? Does the wording just feel off? See if you can spot those issues in your own writing, especially when reading a completed draft or beginning a later draft.

Quick writing tip:
If you’re staring at the lone word “the” on your doc and nothing’s coming to you, delete it.
The word “the” is very difficult to start a story off of. It doesn’t really inspire much. Instead, write the name of your main character, or, if you’re going with first person, start the story with “I.” Then follow it with a verb. Any verb.
And just like that, you’re talking about someone doing something. Yes, it’s only two words, but you can actually do something with them. You can get somewhere.
Why is that character wincing?
Where is xe walking to?
What is causing xir to tremble?
How is xe flying?
If you discover that your story does need to start with the word “the’ later on, then that’s totally cool. What matters when you’re creating content is that you create. Then fix. You can’t fix what doesn’t yet exist.

12 - 21 - 2020
Since today is the start of winter solstice also the day of the great conjunction I wanted to post about my experience with it.
Last night I went to sleep at around about 12am and woke up maybe 6 or 7am shit felt wacky as hell- my body didn't feel right and it felt like my field of view got wider or something. Not only that but some of like my stuffed animals and blankets seemed like they didn't have the right texture? I was a little freaked out by this so ended up going back to sleep, on top of the fact that my body was just drained from waking up.
I woke up about around 11am or 12am I played some games on my console and then I got off at like 1:15pm. After I got off I made three petitions ( you don't know what protections are there basically a type of spell or way to manifest ) and then I also had meditated and this is like the first time that I actually felt comfortable doing it.
When I was meditating I ended up crying though- I'll link the guided meditation that I watched ( ) basically it was a guided meditation for manifestation and she had said "what would it look like after you achieved your goals?" In my head what I ended up envisioning was I was in a forest along with all of my friends & close family of mine and also a bunch of spirits. The crowd of spirits we're in the very back or to the right side of where I was standing which was at a podium.
In the crowd of spirits I saw my grandmother she was the one who really stood out to me but I would say there were maybe about 20 to 30 Spirits all together when I saw her I started crying. Then I looked at my mother in the front row along with my closest friends one of them being someone I've been with for like 3 years but I haven't been able to see them at all or talk to them at all due to covid. Which made me start bawling more.
I didn't really get to see who would have walked me down the aisle but I would bet it would have probably been all of my bestest friends and because they wouldn't have been able to decide who would have done it they would have all went down the aisle with me. I also saw a child bringing up the Rings to the podium. I'm not sure whose child it was but you know.
As well as the ring wasn't a traditional ring it was made out of wood and it was more or less more nature like? I'm not sure how to explain it if I can find a picture I'll find a picture.
Sorry if there's a lot of spelling errors but this was a lot to type so I didn't feel like going back and checking- but yeah if you can make anything of this let me know and I hope your day went as good as mine?

Soon = You & Me
Everything is always coming,
Going to happen, soon-to-be,
Later down the road,
And it's never now.
Right here right in my arms
Never you and me together holding hands,
Walking down the sidewalk smiling,
Laughing looking at each other?
Never now, never in this very moment
Because it'll happen soon they said
But it feels like it'll never happen
At all at the pace that it's happening
So that begs the question will it ever happen?

What is an Altar?
Altars are a hub of your magickal energy. A lot of witches perform spells there, seeing it as a source of valuable energy. It is also a place of worship if you have patron deities. For worshippers, this is where you would communicate and give offerings to said deities. This is also a wonderful space to charge and store your magickal tools. Altars are not a witchcraft-specific object, either- most christian churches have Altars dedicated to Jesus Christ as well!
What can be considered an Altar?
Anything that you use for any of the above can be considered an Altar. I use a bookcase as an altar but it can be anything from a table to an entire room to something as small as a suitcase or even an altoid can- something used commonly among closeted witches as it is not easily found or recognized by loved ones who might be so pleased with the concept of Witchcraft.
How do I decorate my Altar?
You can decorate it in any way you like! An altar, like the Craft in itself, is an extremely personal concept. However, here are various common ways I have seen some being decorated:
To honor their ancestors
To celebrate the seasons
To celebrate holidays such as Ostara or Yule
To honor their deities
Minimalist, having only their supplies and tools with it
Here are some ideas for each one one of these examples on the above list:
To Honor Your Ancestors
Give Offerings of their favorite foods
Decorate it in their favorite colors
Have pictures of them on it
Leave letters addressed to them on the Altar, sending your love and appreciation to them wherever they may be in the afterlife.
To Celebrate the Seasons
Spring- decorate in bright colors such as yellow and pinks; regularly have flowers (real or fake) on or near it; dedicate your Altar to your patron fertility/life/nature deity
Summer- decorate in bold colors such as reds and greens; leave plants such as cacti or produce plants like tomato plants on or near it; leave offerings of fresh (preferably local and in-season) plants on it; dedicate your Altar to your patron god of passion/sun/hard-work
Fall- decorate in muted and comforting colors such as browns and oranges; leave offerings of wheat/cinnamon/squash; leave a small letter addressed to your late loved ones in this time of thinned veil; dedicated your Altar to your patron god of harvest.
Winter- decorate in colors such as whites or blues or even black; leave sprigs of evergreen tree needles or cones near or on it; dedicate it to your patron god of death or life cycles
To Celebrate the Holidays
Samhain- In this time of the thinnest veil, you would want to decorate your altar in a way similar to the way you would in honor of your ancestors. See above for ideas regarding that.
Yule- Leave an (artificial) burning yule log on it, have sun imagery to celebrate the return of the sun
Imbolc- Leave a burning candle (or an artificial candle on) on your altar all day; decorate with a bundle of wheat, a pomegranate, or other symbolism of fertility
Ostara- Decorate with jasper or incense for jasmine or any other floral scent; leave offerings of food; if possible, move it in front of the sun
Beltane- Decorate with phallic decorations; leave items on it that bring great joy to your life, leave a candle of an earthy smell burning
Litha- Decorate with imagery of the moon to welcome the growing darkness; leave it in dark colors for the same reason; similar to Imbolc, display symbols of fertility
Lammas- Decorate in Fall-themed colors; Leave an offering of (preferably home-made) bread
Mabon- Decorate your Altar in items and symbols of things that you are grateful for; leave a letter of thanks to your deity; cover in colors of transition such as orange-red, grays, blue-green, etc.
To Honor your Deities
Cover your altar in their patron colors
Display symbolism of their domain (for ex. A bowl of salt-water if they are over the Sea)
If their worship permits, display a portrait or artistic rendition of them! Feel free to do this yourself, no matter how you gauge your artistic abilities. I’ve even seen people represent gods with dressed-up dolls or barbies
Light an incense in a smell that reminds you of them
The Minimalist Approach
Typically these kinds of altars hold simply the tools of the trade and representations of the elements (none of this is mandatory ever and you should follow your gut with what is necessary for you):
Incense to represent air
Candles or light to represent fire
A bowl of water to represent… well… water
A bowl of salt to represent Earth
Athame
Candles
Crystals
Wand
Hey Guys! I made some more printable reference sheets for y’all! You can download them along with my other reference sheets and printables here. Feel free to request printables and reference sheets as I am always looking for ideas to create more!! Also! Feel free to share Altar tips and decorating ideas on this post ^_^

Add Some Oomph to Your Spells with Magical Timing
Like herbs, oils, and crystals, you don’t need to work with magical timing for your spell to be successful. You can cast a spell at any time, no matter your intention, and get your desired results. However, working with the energy of the sun, moon, and days of the week can add an extra power boost to your magic.
Think of it this way: certain energies are dominant at certain times. Those energies are easier to connect with because they are closer at hand, so to speak, so you can bring them into your life and your spells more easily and in a more powerful way. That doesn’t mean you can’t call on other energies during these times — it just means that you may not connect to them quite so easily.
If you choose to work with magical timing in your spells, there are several yearly, monthly, weekly, and even daily cycles you can align your spells with.
The Cycle of the Sun: Solstices and Equinoxes
These are the turning points that mark the solar year, and are associated with the relationships between day and night, light and dark, summer and winter. Each solstice or equinox marks the end of one season and the beginning for the next. Because they are so rare and so potent, these days are a great time for your “big picture” spells or for spells that need a big power boost.
Winter Solstice. The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year, and falls between December 20 and December 23, depending on the year. In some pagan traditions the winter solstice, or Yule, marks the beginning of the new year — you may choose to set intentions for the coming year on this solstice. After the winter solstice, the nights start getting shorter and the days start getting longer — so spells related to healing and bringing things into the light are especially effective at this time of year. The winter solstice marks the end of the “dark half” of the year and beginning of the “light half” of the year; at this point, our focus turns from inward reflection to outward manifestation. You may choose to think of the time between the winter solstice and spring equinox as a “planning phase,” where you examine yourself and your desires, decide what you want to work on in the next year, and make plans for manifesting what you want.
Spring Equinox. An equinox occurs when the day and the night are exactly the same length, representing a perfect balance between light and dark. The spring equinox marks the beginning of spring and occurs between March 19 and March 22. The Christian holiday of Easter and the pagan holiday of Ostara are both related to the energy of this equinox. At this time of year, the natural world is coming back to life as winter begins to fade. Plants are beginning to grow, and baby animals are being born. This is a powerful time of year for fertility magic and any magic related to new beginnings. You may choose to think of the time between the spring equinox and the summer solstice as a “planting phase,” where you “plant the seed” of the things you want to manifest and begin doing the work to make it happen.
Summer Solstice. This solstice marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. It occurs between June 19 and June 23. As I am writing this post, we are coming up on the summer solstice (June 20, 2020). Life, fertility, and growth are at their peak during this time of year, which makes this solstice a perfect time for big manifestation spells. At the same time, this marks the end of the “light half” and beginning of the “dark half” of the year, so after the summer solstice our energy shifts from outward manifestation to inward contemplation. You may choose to think of the time between the summer solstice and fall equinox as the “harvest phase,” where you reap the results of your hard work and manifest your desires in the physical world.
Autumn Equinox. This is the other time of year when the day and night are perfectly balanced. The autumn equinox occurs between September 19 and September 23 and marks the beginning of autumn. This is traditionally the time of year when crops are harvested, and many pagan groups celebrate harvest festivals around this time. Nature is beginning to die or go into hibernation in preparation for the coming winter. This is an especially powerful time of year for shadow work or for magic related to endings and transitions. You may choose to think of the time between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice as the “reflection phase,” when you retreat from the outside world to rest, focus on yourself, and do your inner work and self-healing.
Important Note: This post lists dates for the solstices and equinoxes in the Northern hemisphere. In the Southern hemisphere, the seasons are reversed. If you live in the Southern hemisphere, you would observe the winter solstice in June, the spring equinox in September, the summer solstice in December, and the fall equinox in March.
The Cycle of the Moon: Lunar Phases
If you don’t have time to wait for the appropriate solstice or equinox, you can still connect with the cosmos in your magic. One of the biggest pros of the lunar cycle is that it happens roughly every month — so you never have to wait very long for the next full moon. The moon is also associated with magic and spirituality in several traditions, which makes it an especially powerful astral ally for witches.
New Moon. The new moon is when the moon is completely invisible in the night sky, and is the phase opposite the full moon. The new moon is a powerful time for shadow work (because it deals with things that are hidden) and for magic related to new beginnings.
Waxing Moon. The moon is waxing when it appears to be growing in the night sky; this is the phase between the new moon and full moon. This is a powerful time for any magic that deals with drawing something in, building something up, or strengthening something that already exists.
Full Moon. Many witches believe that the full moon is the most powerful time of month for any kind of magic. This is a good time to cast any spell that needs a serious power boost. The full moon is also an especially powerful time to release what no longer serves you or to work healing magic.
Waning Moon. The moon is waning when it appears to be shrinking in the night sky; this is the phase between the full moon and new moon. This is a powerful time for any magic that deals with sending something away, banishing negative energy, or bringing something to an end.
Dark Moon. The dark moon is the three day period immediately before the new moon. In some traditions, it is believed to be bad luck to cast spells during the dark moon. Other traditions hold that the dark moon is the best point in the lunar cycle for destructive magic, such as curses and hexes. Many modern witches don’t recognize the dark moon as a separate moon phase at all. I personally like to use the dark moon as a time for self reflection, and may focus on shadow work during this time.
Magical Correspondences for the Days of the Week
The days of the week also have their own unique magical energies, and each day is linked to a certain planet and to certain deities.
Sunday. Sunday is, of course, connected to the Sun and solar deities. Sunday is the best day of the week for any manifestation magic that needs an extra boost. Its energy is also associated with healing, personal growth, power, and success.
Monday. Monday is associated with the Moon and lunar deities. Monday is a quiet, introspective day, and can feel very ethereal. It’s the best day for magic related to intuition, nurturing, and shadow work.
Tuesday. Tuesday is associated with Mars and with gods and goddesses of war and action. (It is named for the Norse/Germanic god Tyr/Tiw.) Tuesday is a very “active” day, and is good for magic related to action, activism, victory, or finding courage.
Wednesday. Wednesday is associated with Mercury and with gods and goddesses of wisdom, learning, and communication. (It is named for the Norse/Germanic god Odin/Wodan.) Wednesday is all about mental activity. It’s the best day of the week for magic related to thought, travel, communication (written, spoken, or digital), and learning/study.
Thursday. Thursday is associated with Jupiter and with gods and goddesses of prosperity, wealth, and protection. (It is named after the Norse/Germanic god Thor.) Thursday, like Jupiter in astrology, is all about outward expansion. It’s the best day of the week for magic related to career, prosperity, and wealth.
Friday. Friday is associated with Venus and with gods and goddesses of love, fertility, and sensuality. (It is named after the Norse goddess Freyja, or perhaps the goddess Frigg.) The energy of Friday is fun, lighthearted, and sexy. It’s the best day of the week for magic related to love, beauty, and sex/sexuality.
Saturday. Saturday is associated with Saturn and with time and wisdom. (The day and the planet are both named after the Roman god Saturn.) Saturday is practical and wise, but it does have a little bit of a dark side. It’s the best day of the week for magic related to banishing and protection.
Magical Times of Day
Okay, so you’d like to start working with magical timing, but what about emergency magic and last-minute spells? What if you don’t have time to wait for the next full moon, or even the next Sunday? You can still align your spell with magical timing! There are several moments of power each day, and each has its own magical associations.
Sunrise. Sunrise is, of course, the birth of the new day. This makes it the perfect time for spells related to new beginnings or expanded possibilities.
Noon. This is the peak or high point of the day. This is a powerful time for healing magic.
Sunset. Sunset is the end of the day, and forms a gateway between light and dark. This is a great time for spells related to accepting endings, releasing that which does not serve, and moving on from the past.
Midnight. If noon is the peak of the day, then midnight is the peak of the night. Midnight has a very ethereal, transformational energy. Like with the full moon, some witches believe that any spell will be more powerful if cast at midnight. This is a powerful time for both banishing and attraction magic.
