Those are b/w digital art paintings, made by the incredibly and amazingly talented artist @twooftheluckyones ! (also called "Cake", they were formerly called "twocakesinacup")
They are not open for commissions a.t.m. , those artworks are made two years ago. They are all inspired by music songs, in order: 1) "Teardrop" by Massive Attack 2) "Acid Rain" by Lorn 3) "Fat Cat Suite" by Savant 4) "GET ENUF" by Hideki Naganuma 5) "Battery" by Chronosphere

Do you have any tips on how to mimic rain worlds style?
i get this a lot and honestly im probably the worst person for this advice but ill try to explain the best i can
i suggest playing around with contrast values (the grayscale of the drawing)
a drawing where all the colors have the same grayscale value is generally dull, so utilize the variety like so:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a common mistake found in painterly style that is sometimes found in my own is that we tend to be timid about using harsh contrasting colors for shading or use monochromatic shading- absolutely use the crazy colors to your advantage instead. complementary (colors in opposing ends of the spectrum) and analogous coloration (colors that neighbor in the spectrum) is your best friend if you want your drawings to pop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
heres what my first mimicry looked like. its very rough and the lighting is a bit weak. theres some areas that look like it could use a bit of smoothened shading but some areas are fine without smooth shading such as when a body part is overhead
heres some examples
Tumblr media
(this is not the case all the time. it just depends on the environment and feel you want for your drawing, so i highly suggest you to experiment)
applying these principles...
Tumblr media
it helps to study the in-game illustrations. try eyedropping the colors and see how they work and perhaps do your own take with the colors you got.

commissions i did that uses the style ^^

idk if anyone will find this useful, but this is how i go about planning my stories. i mostly write fantasy, so that’s what this is most applicable to. but it could work with other genres too.
so there’s three major components to a story: the characters, the plot, and the world. creating them individually is the easy part, but they all connect and affect each other in different ways. (like you can’t have a character who loves peaches and eats them every day if they live a peasant in a region that doesn’t grow peaches, for example.)
so i created a cheat sheet to help connect all three components together.
1) the world creates the characters.
this is related to the peach example above. the characters should be a direct result of the environment they grew up in and the environment they currently live in.
2) the characters are limited by the world.
also related to the peaches. characters can’t do anything outside of what the rules of their surroundings and universe allow, such as eating peaches when they’re not available. this also applies for magic users. they can’t have unlimited magic, so keep in mind what you want out of both the characters and the world when creating magic systems.
3) the characters carry the plot.
we’ve all heard it before: “bad characters can’t carry a good plot. good characters can carry a bad plot.” but we all like a good plot anyway. try to make sure you’re not giving your characters too heavy or too light of a plot to carry.
4) the plot pushes the characters.
if nothing in the plot happens, your characters will remain static forever. if you struggle with plots, try starting with what character development you want to happen, then go from there.
5) the plot depends on the world.
you can’t overthrow the evil government if there isn’t one. think of what your world needs most and what your plot is centered around, and fit those two together.
6) the world is changed by the plot.
even if your plot is centered around something most of your world would call “insignificant”, the world will still experience some change from the plot. either the evil government will be gone, or maybe that one teacher is now way more careful about keeping an eye on the test key. either way, the world will be different from now on.
final note: usually people will be able to write one or two of the components with ease, but don’t know where to go from there. i personally can’t write plots, but thinking this way has really helped me actually make a story out of the world and characters because i looked at what i needed from what i had. i really hope this can help you too! happy writing!
tl;dr this is a cheat sheet to help anyone who struggles with writing one or two of what i consider the three major components to a story.

apparently ppl don’t know about waifu2x??? despite its… concerning name it’s literally the most convenient website i’ve ever come across as an artist
it allows you to resize artwork without it becoming pixellated. this is a MASSIVE help if you, for example, make lineart too small or something. it works best with things that 1. have no textures 2. have smooth lines 3. have cel shading, but it still works really damn well for things that don’t fit that profile
here’s an example:

2x in waifu2x
so like, there’s that. go wild

a quick grass tutorial
I’ve never really wrote a tutorial before so apologies if this is bad
1. okay first thing I do is pick three colors, a mid, dark, and light. I like to check the colors in greyscale to make sure there’s enough contrast between each one.
I then plop down a blob of whatever my middle tone color is.
Tumblr media
2. next, I take my dark color and just sort of randomly place it around. I try to make sure there’s a good amount of both the mid and dark tones spread throughout. I personally like to keep it kinda messy. I also have pen pressure on for both brush size and opacity, so I can have some blending action going on.
Tumblr media
3. for the next step I do the exact same thing as before, except with the light color.
Tumblr media
4. aight this is where we start adding details. see how you just have a bunch of colors and edges where two colors meet? use the eyedropper and go to an area where two colors meet, eyedrop a color, and then use that color to draw in your grass blades. I do this at every point where colors meet. should note I personally like to use a square brush, but you can really just use anything.
Tumblr media
5. you can technically stop at the last step if you’re going for a more simple look, but to add more details I go to the “empty” areas of solid color and just draw in random strokes using a color nearby. it’s just a way to fill up the empty space.
Tumblr media
6. basically more of the same idea of eyedropping and drawing. for more variety so things look interesting, I like to add random plant shapes.
Tumblr media
7. and so the grass doesn’t look too plain, I add random dots of color and pretend it’s flowers and stuff.
Tumblr media
and there you have it, this is how I approach drawing grass.
