Hey everyone! I'm trying to make an Asteria candle 🕯️ for her alter and also wanted to offer her some herbs. Does anyone know what common herbs she likes? I did some research and I found juniper berries, lavender, and star anise. Any other herbs or scents she likes I can add to the candle, crystal recommendations are also very good.

Tarot card tips and resources for beginners.

Tarot cards are an amazing way to connect to the universe and find your path, there are many ways of doing it and sometimes you can get confused about where to start, I hope this post helped

First things first, if you want to learn, everyone says memorize the cards. I don’t believe you need to, as tarot is all about interpretation. One reader is not going to read their cards the same as another, as our psychic mind guides us on how to read the cards, but we usually all get the same message one way or another.

If you’re worried about memorizing the cards before you get started but want an accurate reading, I would recommend apprentice cards. These cards say the meaning on them along with any reverse meaning. You will still need to interpret what the universe is telling you with these cards and if you're just learning how to use your psychic abilities, these are great.

If you want to learn by memorizing, I have a few book suggestions, but what I like to do is, do a simple three-card reading and then read in the book what it means afterwards, that way you can still learn how to train your psychic abilities, but also memorizing the cards along the way. Also, you get a deeper description and understanding of each card with the books

These are just a few techniques I’ve used to learn and thrive with readings. Each of our psychic abilities is different but how mine comes up is when I’m reading a card and a thought or image comes through that thought is connected to that card and can help you understand the meaning it’s trying to tell you.

Oracle cards: I use Oracle cards with my tarot readings to help me learn more about a subject, as Oracle cards have different meanings for each deck and have their own cards. So if I’m doing a romance reading and need clarification I will pull from my romance deck, and for example, the card marriage I pulled for this subject, that means whatever I’m reading in my tarot is related to marriage. And you can use any oracle deck for this. Usually, if I ask the universe about something I have a universe deck and if romance I have a romance deck. It can give extra clarity to your readings.

Pendulums: I also use pendulums to help me understand a reading, when your cards are pulled and you are not sure about something in the reading. I pull out my pendulum and and it yes and no questions about the reading, this can give me more clarity in what they are trying to tell me.

A Simple spell for the new year!

You can do this for the first of every month, but today is a great day to do this spell as today is the start of a new year, and this can get you ready for what is to come in your life this year!

The Door Ritual

The front door of your house holds a lot of energy, people and their energies walk through your door, time and time again, some good and some bad. Let’s make use of that energy, first, I like to cleanse the space and myself before this activity. First, we have to cleanse any bad energy that has walked through our door or anything that has wanted to enter. Talk any salt and put it in your hand (my favourite is pink) and you will blow it off your hand out your front door (if you feel any negativity towards any other door in your house, you can do this for any door) this is an old way of banishing bad energies and spirits from entering or trying to enter your space. The next part is the part that can help you a lot through this year. Take cinnamon and put it in the palm of your hand and blow it out your door. This will bring luck and abundance into your space, this can lead to you having a successful year in what you hope for, money success at work, whatever is needed to guide you, this ritual can help you into the year with these goals. But keep in mind these things will only come Into your life if you work for them, this ritual is not a free pass, nor is any magic, it’s a guide, a push if you will

Also if you don’t have ground cinnamon on hand you can light your cinnamon stick like incense and incense your door way. This will work the same.

You don’t want your neighbours to see you your witchy rituals or you live in apartment where you can’t do this. Have no fear! As you can do an abundance spell and it can work the same, just do it at the first of this month and if you want to the first of every month- here is a spell I use

Green candle

Money rice (rice dyed green)

Stones: tigers eye, selenite. Rose quarts, jade or any green stone

Cinnamon

Cloves

Bay leaf

1: take your green candle and some oil and rub it in cinnamon, during this, you can carve it with any symbol you feel will help you I use Taurus

2: put the candle in a fireproof container, along with the green rice and cloves.

3: surround the container with the crystals one for north, south, west and east (use ones associated with abundance)

4: right what do you want on a bay leaf “I wish for luck on the test, or I wish to be selected to get this house”

5: meditate with your purpose in mind with leaf in hand and when you feel like your are ready light the candle and burn the leaf in it, burn the candle until gone, and make sure leaf is full burned.

6. Let the candle burn you can do other things while it’s burning as the candle will do the rest as long as you believe in the spell.

I do this spell on the planetary alignment of Venus in Taurus. If you want to use zodiacs or aliments in spells I have a book that is great to learn.

I find some hellenic polytheist spaces to be.... quite restrictive in a way. When I was doing research on prayer, I came across Aliakai's videos and gave them a whirl. It was honestly... kind of disheartening.

I don't pray ritually. Well, not always. I pray because I want to have a relationship with the gods. I pray to thank them for things they have given me, and I pray just to thank them for being in my life. I pray over the small things. I pray all the time. These are not riutalized prayers. I'm not taking a whole bath to cleanse myself of miasma before I pray over these small things. Sometimes I don't have the option.

Perhaps this is just left over influence from growing up around Christians. I think prayer absolutely can be rituatlized, and sometimes it is. When I'm going to give a big prayer with an offering, I wash myself and get ready to pray. But this isn't always the case for me. I felt almost discouraged at that video because to some extent I felt like that was how I HAD to pray and the gods wouldn't accept it any other way. I don't think that's how it is.

The gods aren't going to be cross with you because you said a small prayer without ritual. They aren't going to be mad if you don't give an offering over these small prayers. They aren't going to be mad if you don't want to pray ritually. This is about YOUR relationship with them. Do what works for you, there is no right or wrong way to pray. Sure, there are historically accurate ways, but that doesn't mean you're doing it wrong.

Pray however you see fit.

Blue Sandstone! Best stone for Lady Asteria (in my opinion)

Blue sandstone reminds me of her so much! I was shopping at a local witch market and came across it, I could not believe my eyes! A stone that looks like a night full of stars. I got two and put them on her altar, she seemed to like them, when I asked her in tarot readings. Though it is a man-made stone ( Blue Sandstone is made by creating glass with Quartz sand. The sand Quartz is heated, melted, and then infused with other particles like copper, feldspar, manganese, cobalt, or chromium.) I still think it’s a great stone to offer her, and it’s very cheap! Make your own opinions, but I love it!

Parapleustia

πᾰρᾰπλευστέος - parapleustéos meaning ‘that must be sailed past’ *

A festival dedicated to Lady Asteria set around the new years. It begins on the 29th of December and finishes on the 1st of January. It focuses on change and preparation for the new year, it holds similarities with the concepts of new year resolutions but I think they’re a good thing to both associate and dedicate to Lady Asteria.

While not exactly feast days, the first and last days (29th & 1st) should have a special meal (no fish**) in her honour, the first (29th) to thank her for her guidance throughout the past year and the last (1st) to ask for her guidance and help in the coming year.

There should be a focus on prayers on the first and last days (29th & 1st) of the festival as well as smaller daily prayers to her on the other 2 days.

There should be preparation for the new year (e.g. cleaning) as well as looking at past actions and the changes we can make in order to to have a better year, this can be done on the 2nd day (30th) but can also be done on any day before the new year.

The third day (31st) holds particular importance and should be devoted to making something in her honour, such as crafting or baking.

On the final day of the festival (1st) there shouldn’t be any major preparations for the new year, but rather focus on celebrating the change and spending time with people.

A concise timeline:

29th - feast, main prayer day(s)

30th - focus on preparing for the new year (cleaning, cooking, etc)

31st - devoting a craft of some kind (baking, painting, etc)

1st - feast, main prayer day(s), spending time with friends/family etc. (focus on celebrating the new year and Lady Asteria’s guidance through it)

* When deciding on a name I asked Lady Asteria if she wanted a focus on a specific attribute/name (i.e. Delos, Asteria or Brizo) and I pulled a card with ocean imagery, so I decided on something more focused on her Brizo aspect. The idea of sailing is due her association with sailors, and the ‘sailing past’ something is to associate going into the new year, going past everything in the last year and starting afresh beyond it

** This is based on the UPG of Asteria=Brizo (post found here) and that it was noted that Lady Brizo was never given offerings of fish

Full moon in cancer: dec 26th

I haven't given an offering to Asteria in a while, and my luck has been horrible, I did egg cleansing and everything. I was cleaning today and decided I wanted to cleanse my space as well, so I gave her an offering as I cleaned. I gave her some dragonfruit incense. I lost a part of my birthstone piercing and I asked Asteria to help me find it, as it's important to me, I thought It was just another stroke of bad luck. For some reason, I did not panic as I felt like it would come back to me. And after 30 min I gave up and went to put a new one in. I looked down and there was a missing piece, in my sink, a small little ball less than a centimetre, in a 2000 square foot house. And it was right in front of me. So I guess my message is, that sometimes we forget about our deities, but when we show them love they will always give it back. 💫✨

The Evermore Grimoire: Greek Mythology

Asteria (Αστερια meaning ‘Starry’) was the Titan goddess of the falling stars, prophetic dreams and astrology in Greek mythology. After the fall of the Titans, Zeus (king of the gods) chased Asteria across the sky but she escaped him by transforming herself into a quail and leaping into the Aegean Sea. It was there that she metamorphosed into the island Asteria (’The Island which had Fallen From Heaven Like a Star’) or the ‘Quail Island’Ortygia. This then became identified with the island of Delos, which was the only place on earth to give refuge to her fugitive sister Leto(goddess of motherhood), when pregnant with Zeus’s children, she was pursued by the vengeful Hera (goddess of marriage). It was on the same island that Asteria married her Titan cousin Perses and gave birth to their daughter Hecate(goddess of witchcraft).
