Favourite thing about the battle subway so far is a poster near the entrance that has a list of all the pokemon banned from the battle subway. Which includes the likes of Kyogre and Arceus
*snaps fingers* aw man. they don't let you bring God onto the battle subway anymore. Because of woke.

You know, if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear you had a twin here in Unova, because that’s exactly what somebody that specializes in Pawniard-line prosthetics and blade grafts told me over a call when I asked him about Spite. Unfortunately, I am a university student, and thus flat broke 99% of the time, but I did have enough money to buy some of that Metal Coat stuff and enough supplements to last me through the jar and the end of the year. The guy I called said that the chip looked mostly superficial, but that if Spite expressed sensitivity around the area it was probably into the base of the horn at least a little bit. I checked, confirmed his suspicions, and moved on with the next part of the whole plan.
Which! Given that I unfortunately cannot afford to continuously buy what I did today, is to go to this specialist once Spite’s blade doesn’t cause him physical discomfort any more. That way we can be more confident about the graft sticking and feeling better. This specialist has worked with several Bisharp before, including his own, and enough Pawniard that I trust him to get the job done well. Especially since he didn’t push me to buy anything he was selling which was a good sign right off the bat. Won’t be goin’ in to see him for another two weeks at the least, though, especially since everyone’s gonna be busy with Arcmas here in Unova. But seriously, thanks for the advice! I know a few people with pack pokemon, so while I don’t have room in my life for another pokemon just yet, once Spite is feeling better I’ll see how training with them goes.
Just putting this out here, does anyone know of any kind of… i don’t know, prosthetic or repair service for pokemon with blades that get said blades damaged? I’ve been thinking recently about Spite and his chipped helm blade, since it might be affecting his behavior. He was likely kicked out of his pack for it, so I think that’s made him self conscious, and as a result, more standoffish with other pokemon. And more so than him just being a Pawniard— it’s less an ‘I can take this lemme at ‘em’ confidence and more an ‘I’m mean and scary you better stay away’ fear response. That could also be because he’s not with his pack anymore, but I can’t confidently introduce him to another pokemon his size to form a buddy system/pack, because I’m worried he’d react aggressively. Honestly, I’m just hoping to find a way to boost his confidence. Maybe I could try doing battle training with him in earnest, now that I’ve got more time over Arcmas break, maybe even take him to a few proper battles once he’s ready. I just want to see him happy and confident, and if anyone’s got suggestions, I’m all ears.

I have some updates! Weekend hassle of moving back in at home + other stuff did me in.
For one, Spite seems to be in good spirits! I’ve been able to spar with him more now that I’m done with classes. Also, he and Hexagon have seen each other through a barrier, and both seem fairly ok with the other. I’ve also been in contact with some specialists about fixing the chip in his horn, recommended to me by my professor. But they’re further up north than I am right now, so I haven’t had the opportunity to go just yet.
I’ll try to post some pictures of Hex and Spite hangin’ out, but I might be too swamped with holiday prep. Fingers crossed!

Oh, thanks for the tip! Though given what you’ve said, I might have to get my Unfezant to fly me back up to near where I’m going to college, as that’s an area that I know has a lot of Bisharp and Pawniard. Ah well, was gonna happen sooner or later— I appreciate you helping me narrow my field of search down.

I appreciate the advice— I’ve been talking with one of the teachers at my school that specializes in working with steel type pokemon about how to handle Spite, and he’s been helpful so far. We weren’t sure how Spite would really act once he’d gotten over his initial distrust/active dislike of everyone, which has only happened recently with he and I getting along more. So this problem has been something I’ve only noticed recently, otherwise I’m sure my teacher and I would have talked about it already. But… given that university is out, I’m busy with moving home, and he’s busy with end of the year stuff, I haven’t had the time to talk to that teacher in the past few days. I’ll send him a letter once I’m home and see if he’s got anything, and talk to some professors closer to my home city in the meantime. Fingers crossed, and thanks for the help again.

Hey, glad you like it! I’ve thought about doing art as a career in the general sense before, but I think I’d rather keep it as a way to de-stress than as a job that I need to do, personally. I really appreciate the compliment though!
Now then, I have something to get off my chest. Now, I'd prefer saying this in Countryside Interpretation, a sign or pamphlet, but my artistic prowess is limited.
Please pick up your discarded Pokéballs.
Firstly, modern pokeballs are constructed out of metal. When you leave pokeballs in routes, pokemon can easily become stuck in them. I have seen many woopers become trapped in balls, many others will never escape.
Not only that, pokeballs take hundreds of years to decay and break down. These tools can pollute waterways, forests, and especially bogs and wetlands, where decomposition takes much longer. Even when the balls have fully rotted, they can send heavy metals into the water, turning the land toxic to all forms of life.

oooh hopefully Rotomblr doesn’t crunch the quality of this too badly— anyways, you mentioned that you didn’t really have the artistic ability to make a poster, so I figured I’d make one! Feel free to use it or not, or change it however you like. anyways y’all, PICK UP YOUR POKÉBALLS. It’s common decency.

Holy smokes I almost forgot about Twin Pikas being filmed here. We’re within sneezing distance of PokeStar studios so we get a ton of amateur filmmakers coming through— it gets kinda hard to keep track of even the big ones! And the way you talk about Nacrene city makes it very clear the place is near and dear to your heart. Don’t think I’ve ever made it over there, but it sounds like a really nice place to visit. If I ever get the itch to travel again, it’s definitely on my bucket list now.
Ah! A fellow Unova trainer! I’ve never been to Virbank since it’s so far out of the way, but I’ve heard a lot about it. How do you like living near there? :]
Yo, another Unovan! Nice to see you! As for living in Virbank, it’s sort of interesting? Air quality hasn’t always been the greatest, but that has improved in recent years! Regardless of that though, the fog is always present, except for like… mid July when it gets stupid hot. Speaking of! The weather! Is ridiculous. Being on the water will do that to most cities. 50 degrees one day and snowing two feet the next. Regardless of the shenanigans I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I love the culture, I loved being able to run around the public parts of the Virbank complex as a kid, and in general, it’s just big enough of a town that you don’t feel cramped, but just small enough that you actually get to know your neighbors and the people around you. Certainly not for everyone, but! It is my home city and I love it dearly.

any tips on how to introduce new pokemon to each other? I’m going back home for the winter holiday break at uni, and I’m going to have to introduce Spite (Pawniard) to Monochrome (Unfezant) and Hexagon (Boldore)— and I want to, anyways, since Mono and Hex are my partner pokemon, and unless things drastically change I think Spite’s stickin’ with me. Current plan was to move very slowly, introduce ‘em in their pokeballs first before moving on to face-to-face interactions. I’m the most worried about Spite being either a: territorial around Monochrome and provoking him or b: being terrified of Monochrome and hiding the whole time. While of course anything can happen, Monochrome only tends to get territorial in certain seasons, and otherwise gets along with most of the trained & wild pokemon that I’ve run into with him. And Hexagon, arceus bless him, has about one braincell pinging about max, and that braincell is not devoted to causing drama. So I’m primarily concerned about the least trained pokemon in this situation. If anyone has any suggestions to make the transition smoother, I’m all ears.

Well hey, thank you for the advice, genuinely. I’m more used to hearing about legendaries through the lens of, well, legends, and not just as ‘pokemon that are out there sometimes’. So I appreciate hearing about your experiences and the different perspective, I’ll definitely keep all that in mind going forward!
I’ve been seeing people all the time on rotomblr talk about their legendary experiences, and while I feel a bit left out, I also feel kinda lucky? Not all of those legendary (or ultra beast) experiences seem to have been the greatest, and I’m glad I haven’t had to deal with any of that.

apologies for the poor quality, but this is an old picture of my (now Unfezant) pidove I found! (His name is Monochrome, for anyone curious.) I don’t remember the context for this picture or why he got in the water, but it’s kind of funnier without that context imo.

Ohhhh reblogging this for personal reasons. While I have an Unfezant who is more than happy to battle with me whenever and evolved at what most battle trainers would consider a ‘natural pace’, I also have a Boldore who never evolved into a Gigalith— that I also did regular battles with. Both pokemon I trained had a desire to battle, otherwise I know they wouldn’t have listened to me, but my Boldore was just content where he was. Though… since I was into competitive battling, I received more than a few offers from fellow trainers suggesting ways to make my Boldore evolve. Part of me knows they were just trying to help a fellow competitive battle trainer, and I definitely don’t think there was any malice behind the offers. But something about it rubbed me the wrong way. I always brushed it off as just me being traumatized by horror stories I heard as a kid about people forcing pokemon to evolve, and so it’s nice to feel heard and validated about the issue overall when reading a post on rotomblr.
Something I’ve been drawn to repeatedly in my research is the human/Pokémon relationship with evolution, with all of the psychological and social elements attached to it. Even more specifically, the phenomenon of many trainers equating evolution with improvement and reaching a greater level, as opposed to a neutral change that holds its own benefits and drawbacks.
Evolution is everywhere in our world. Battle culture is where it’s most prominent, but it’s spread in media, and even in pageantry with certain pageants withholding prestigious rewards and recognitions from non-evolved Pokémon. When depictions of humans and Pokemon growing alongside one another, the Pokemon is depicted as evolving as a physical representation of the growth and progress it has made.
Some people claim that evolution is the natural progression and change of a Pokemon to their ultimate potential. However, many academics (as well as myself) have been pushing for a movement to recognise evolution as a simple difference. A change from one state to another, not tied with values nor positively/negatively charged statements.
I know this wording can be unclear, so I’ll use a personal example. Through a program I was partnered with, I had a Sinistea housed with me as it was a high needs Pokemon with severe anxiety in need of a more stable environment than a shelter. This Sinistea had been a victim of a regrettably common occurrence: The abandonment of Pokemon that are refuse to or generally find themselves unable to evolve.
Sinistea was denied support, denied security, and most importantly, denied companionship with its trainer. The trainer wanted to optimise Sinistea for battle, and wanted to force it into evolving when it was not ready to. Sinistea would not have been a better Pokemon if it had evolved. It may have had increased power, but Sinistea would have also struggled adapting to new move sets that non/evolved Pokemon are able to do with relative ease.
Furthermore, it’s been proven that the full potential that a Pokemon holds can only ever reached through proper companionship. This potential could be power, as the trainer hoped. It could have also been showmanship, or culinary abilities, berry hunting, artistic skills. The abilities of individual Pokemon extend past that of our battle-centric world.
When you have a new Pokémon enter your life, your first question should not be how the Pokemon can serve you. If the Pokemon is not suited to whatever you attempt to force it into, it creates a sense of instability and insecurity in the Pokemon. Instead, connect personally with your Pokemon. Discover its personality and interests. Through your journey, it may desire to evolve but may or may not be able to. It may even reject the notion of evolving. No matter what, it is our position as trainers to give mutual support to our Pokemon, and if we find ourselves unable to, then it is up to us to find someone that can better suit the Pokémon’s needs.

My Unfezant likes to sit on top of my Boldore and just let them take him places. I think he does it for fun? Then again the two are super close, and are used to battling/traveling as a duo, so I think it might be their way of hangin’ out.
GOOD MORNING ROTOMBLR! All of you must tell me a weird quirk one of your Pokémon has and why they do it, if you know. Thank youu!
