lot of the dndads fandom has a srs issue with racism/colorism/white washing, but because the fandom is majority white no one actually wants to talk about it (cough and when i tried bringing it up a buncha white ppl got on my asshole)

the amount of black and brown ppl in this fandom is so incredibly small its kinda insane!

fan art of lark and sparrow (and even normal) as pale blue eyed blonde children is absolutely insane to me, the amount of ppl who draw brown skin as various shades of gray. hell after s3 was released for a week i already saw white washed francis art

i understand podcasts are a visual medium and you can take creative liberties, but please realize the amount of bipoc ppl in this fanbase is so small and seeing the representation we get just get flushed down the toilet in favor of pale skin and blonde hair is truly frustrating

ALRIGHT SO (most of these are stretches pls bare with me)

The first part of the song about the soccer game is when I think Scary starts to like Holly. It’s expressed through the podcast that Scary still really likes soccer even though she had stopped playing. Holly is over here being talented and engulfed in the game, something Scary would probably admire or even be envious about, closing herself to it. She talks about Holly with admiration until Holly starts to make fun of Scary. Scary closes up again, but still ends the part with “Guess she’s the one you loved.” I’m considering “you” as Scary talking in the second person throughout this song.

In the second part, in science class, Scary, with a now realized crush on Holly, doesn’t know how to handle it. Obviously, she’s very interested in the experiment, considering it dark, but seeing Holly also enjoy it, Scary starts to admire Holly again. But, to stop the feelings and thoughts, and also as a way to get her back from making fun of her before, she puts a spider in her hair. It causes a panic, but also causes Scary to push down her feelings more.

The third part is where Holly gets crushed by a vending machine. Scary, when she first hears this, is in denial. She doesn’t accept the fact that Holly has gotten crushed, and instead believes it’s a way to gain sympathy from others. When she finally does accept that fact, she starts the chorus “Guess she’s the one you loved” again, and while that line still adds to the theory, Scary also adds the additional “I’m doing fine” to the end. This was mostly meant to be read as Scary being self centered, I believe Scary was being an unreliable narrator. She’s not fine. Someone she liked just died but she wants to keep up the facade that she doesn’t like her and that she’s okay.

In the outro, she’s talking about being onstage and getting an applause, what I originally assumed from being the “winner” in this fight, but after reading it and the ending line, it seems like it’s set up so it’s Scary singing this song to an audience, and after it finishes, she gets a cheer. But the audience truly doesn’t understand the weight of someone Scary knew actually dying. It shows that Scary still thinks of Holly. Writing a song for Holly’s memory, despite it painting her as a sort of bully. The last two lines are Scary finally accepting that Holly’s not coming back.

In conclusion, Scary developed a crush on a girl that probably didn’t like her back, evident to her bullying Scary first and ending up with a spider in her hair, having that girl die, and Scary trying to find ways to cope and accept with the loss of her, like WRITING THIS SONG.

tldr ig: scary marlowe has a girl crush and doesn’t know what to do with it until her crush literally fucking dies
