Hi ! It's me again, Thank you already for your writing, it was absolutely too cute ! ♡
If you don't mind, I have another little idea for this Sunday. In fact, I love the Matt - Ash duo. We don't talk about them enough and they're just perfect together even with their differences. I'm sure that if she hadn't met our two favorite idiots, Ash might have spent more time with Matt. Could you write about that please ? ♡
He’d gotten halfway through writing his own name before her hand was on his wrist, stilling him completely, and when he glanced her way, the expression he found there was difficult to place. Until it wasn’t.
“This is such a bad idea,” Ashley said, her voice pitched low and her eyes darting about, acting like they were planning some sort of bloody coup instead of filling out a dumb half-sheet form in the senior section of the lunchroom, “Like...it’s such a bad idea, Matt.”
For his part, he could only grin, nudging her lightly with his shoulder as he reassured her, “Aw c’mon, trust me on this, all right, however it shakes out, it’s gonna be fun, and it’s gonna be hilarious - think of the photos we’ll have!”
“Yeah, the ‘hilarious’ part is sort of my problem,” she muttered, removing her hand from his arm for the sole purpose of anxiously gnawing at the nail of her thumb, “It’s, um, kinda hard to tell when people are laughing with you versus at you when you’re, y’know...me.”
He nudged her with his shoulder again, offering the pen out to her so she could sign her name beside his (if she wanted to, of course), and when she took it, still looking more than a little apprehensive, he lowered his voice as well, confiding, “Even if we don’t win, all the Homecoming people get a big pizza party right before the pep rally, y’know...who needs a crown when you can get all the garlic knots you can eat?”
six sentence sat(or)sunday!!!

Small update: I've decided to name Jack's older sibling Don. It can either be as it is, or short for one of the many names that begin with "don" haha who knows
Zadra! It's your old buddy the UDGE gifter again with yet another question I should've lumped in with the first message (and only realized a meer... 10 seconds after hitting send).
In regards to Jack once more, do you have any headcanons in regard to his family? What happened to his parents? Did/does he have any siblings that are working a normal 9-5 somewhere? Does anyone even know where he is/what he's doing?
Any and all other thoughts would be appreciated :)
Thanks again
I've been ruminated over this all day yesterday as I've only half thought of most of this before while writing fics in my head. So, most of this is kinda pulled out of my butt in the moment as I'm not very much a "having concrete headcanons" kind of person, and my headcanons change all the time. I also love seeing other people's headcanons 'cause if I like them enough I'll usually adopt them lol.
This ended up being longer than I thought lol whoops
Funniest answer to me is that Jack does have an exceedingly normal sibling(s?) that lives down in the city, has some boring office job and a spouse and kids/possible grandkids.
Jack's grandfather was the main one who did hunting, with his parents not really getting involved or following in his grandfather's footsteps. His parents either feeling trapped on the mountain, or wanting something else for their life. Jack and his sibling grew up a town away from the mountain, closer to the foothills of Alberta, but their parents would send Jack and his sibling up to spend time with their grandfather a couple times a year on the mountain, knowing that their grandfather would keep the kids safe.
Jack's grandfather would always take him and his sibling out on hunts when they visited. Both wanting them to learn survival skills and desperate to have one of them take to watching over the mountain and follow in his footsteps after neither of their parents did. Jack did not take a shine to the hunts as a kid, but their older sibling (jack strikes me as a younger sibling tbh) did. He would mostly take a step back an observe during the hunts while his older sibling would be more active with their grandfather.
It wasn't until they were about the age of the main cast, that the switch flipped. While on a hunt together -Jack having the vague idea that this might be his last time going as he was old enough to really start focusing on what to do with his own life- their grandfather died in front of them. Jack pivoted and got obsessed with his grandfather's work and taking care of the mountain while his sibling now wanted nothing to do with it.
Not sure what's up with his parents, but maybe at the time they kinda let their kids figure things out, glad that Jack's older sibling pivoted away from the mountain and waiting for Jack to get out of his obsessive sorrow and go back to living a normal life away from the mountain, but he never did. They only tried to convince him away from the mountain a couple of times, but he stubbornly stayed where he was. His parents gave up after getting grandkids from his older sibling and focusing more on them.
For some years after his grandfather's death, Jack and his sibling barely talked, both following their lives and learning stand on their feet through wildly different circumstances. Eventually his sibling reached out like "alright you do need to visit to meet your niece/nephew(s?) and so I can see you and know you're okay." His sibling and their kids were not going to visit him.
After some niggling, Jack agreed. He goes to visit them once a year, only during the week of the summer solstice (longest days and such).
Jack always brings things for protection as gifts, earning side-eyes from his sibling's spouse but his sibling just kinda goes with it for their own paranoia. In turn they always make sure to make some over-complicated dish Jack doesn't have the time or ingredients to make on his own on the mountain, but loves. They also usually take him to a movie or show him popular movies so he's somewhat up to date on things in the world. They don't show him monster movies though 'cause Jack won't shut the fuck up during them.
Jack initially hunted on his own, but a couple years after his initial visits, his sibling went to a rescue and got him a dog so he had some kind of companion. When the dogs would get too old to keep up with hunts, Jack would bring them to his sibling's family to live out their golden years somewhere comfortable. Jack has a personal journal with a collection of pictures and anecdotes of all his dogs over the years. All of them were just named after the Nato alphabet 'cause he's #badatnamingthings lol. Most of the dogs adopted are retired sled dogs 'cause they're well trained and can keep up (and my childhood dogs were a pair of retired sled dogs :3).
There's some niggling in his sibling's head that wants Jack to get off the mountain and stop trying to get himself killed, but they never really say anything. Both because of the knowledge that Jack is keeping things under control, he can keep himself and his dogs alive, and with the fear that asking him might switch Jack's attention into trying to pass the torch to their kids and they do NOT want that.
I think that's all I got. they rest of my thoughts are very jumbled, incoherent, or just need more time to marinate, so I hope this is enough for you to play with :3
