Jack loves hockey, everyone knows that. He wouldn’t know what to do without it. The trill, the chills, working with a team, forming a bond that makes everyone a family. God, he loved every moment of it. However, there were times when he would grow to resent it. Times like this. Going on roadies has always been exciting for Jack. He loved to travel around and visit different places. But, once he met you, every time he had to leave New Jersey meant that he had to leave you. As much as he wanted to bring you with him, you had a job of your own to maintenance.
His resentment towards roadies only seemed to grow once the two of you had a baby. His little princess as he would say. The day little Leia was brought into the world was the day Jack was ready to risk it all. You had to have a long sit down with him about continuing his career and not to worry. Even Quinn had to knock some sense into his younger brother; nearly having a heart attack at the possibility of him quitting hockey.
The truth to him almost ending his career was— he was scared. Both of you were young, and still fresh into your careers. He was scared of missing out on important moments. Scared that you may need him in an emergency while he is far away from home. Jack was scared that he wouldn’t be a good dad and that Leia would grow to resent him because of how distant he may seem due to hockey. In Jack’s mind, all he wants is to be the best role model that he can be. He wants to give not only Leia but you too, the best life that you could have.
Currently, you sat at home with Leia on the floor. The two of you were playing with toys that Ellen had mailed over just a few days ago. Jack was on the road once again, currently on his way to California. He left only yesterday and you had grown to miss him quite quickly. When the plane landed and he reached his shared hotel room with Luke, Jack didn’t hesitate to give you a call. He ‘needed to check on his girls’.
“Alright Leia, Mommy will be right back.” You say to the almost one-year-old. She glances at you with her big soft eyes and a bright smile that reminds you of Jack. She was preoccupied with the building blocks in her tiny hands as you pushed yourself off the ground and headed toward the kitchen.
You entered the kitchen with specific intentions. Chocolate and crackers. A snack for you and Leia. After shuffling through the cabinets you let out a little cheer of success when finding the two treats.
Walking back to the living room, your body pauses at the sight.
Leia stood against the dark grey sofa, her little legs wobbling slightly as she used her hands to keep herself up. Your eyes dart to your phone on the coffee table that you moved. Slowly, you drop the snacks on the table and replace them with your phone. You watch as Leia takes a glance at you, gibberish giggles escaping her mouth. She makes grabby hands in your direction; signaling that she wants you to pick her up.
“C’mon Leia, come to mommy,” you say in a soft voice. Your body sinks to the ground as you wave your daughter over to you. She gives you the common confused Hughes look before pushing a foot out.
A gasp escapes your lips as you scramble the buttons for your password. Your fingers glided across the smooth screen of the phone, clicking Jack’s contact and pressing the call button. Looking up Leia, she was still hesitant to take another step— her face holding a tiny panic.
You smile at her gently, “You got this baby.”
“Got what?” Jack’s sudden voice throws you off for a moment. You didn’t realize that he answered the phone; too distracted by the fact your daughter is attempting to walk.
His brown hair was ruffled, clearly showing he had just woken up. He was snuggled into a white comforter, his eyes barely open as he wore a lazy grin.
“I’m sorry, did I wake up?” You ask your boyfriend who just shook his head groggily. He wouldn’t admit if you did even if it was the truth.
“I’ve been up for a bit. What’s going on?” His voice is raspy as he runs a hand over his face. You watch the screen while Jack squints his eyes; adjusting to the sunlight that started to peak through the hotel curtain windows.
Panning the camera to face Leia, you could see Jack’s alertness. Suddenly, he was up and ready. His eyes opened wide as he sat up straight in bed. A small frown began to etch across his face once he realized what he was about to miss.
“She’s walking?” He questions in a sad tone. Something in his gut told him that he was going to miss something important during this trip.
You hum, “she’s trying. Hasn’t made a move yet.”
Leia gurgles and partially squats down. Both you and Jack whisper the word ‘no’ before she rises back up; bouncing from the impact. Her blue eyes fall onto the phone screen, they sparkle at the sight of her dad. There was no doubt that Leia was a daddy’s girl. She was head over heels for her father. Whenever he came around; it was like you didn’t exist. Leia waved her small hand at Jack, a toothy grin greeting him.
“Dada,” she mumbles.
Jack lights up at the sound of his princess’s voice. “Hi, baby.” The raspy morning tone was long gone. Replaced with his baby voice, similar to the voice people would use when talking to cute animals.
Leia squeals at Jack’s greeting, bouncing up and down in excitement. You couldn’t help but laugh at her reaction. She moves up a little, her hands no longer grasping the sofa for support.
“You wanna talk to daddy?” You ask. “Come over here Leia.” You attempt to attract her attention; pushing your phone outwards— closer to her.
Jack catches onto your idea and sets his phone against the lamp on the nightstand. Luke walks by, waving at the screen before walking into the bathroom, a towel wrapped around his neck.
“Leia, princess, I miss you. I wish I was there to see you walk in person. I love you, baby.” He coos as Leia slowly walks towards you. With each step, she stumbles a little but that doesn’t stop her. Her arms reach forward, trying to grasp your phone (Jack’s face) while you slowly move your arm back and closer to yourself so she can follow after.
When she makes it to you, Leia topples on your lap, trying to crawl on you to grab the phone. Both you and Jack laugh as you try to release her grip on you. You fix Leia so she is sitting correctly and bring the phone closer to her face so she can see Jack. As you stared at the two, you shook your head at how similar they looked. Leia was practically a spitting image of Jack with only certain features of yours. While she has your eye shape and lips, everything else was pretty much Jack. She was his mini-me.
“Our baby took her first steps!” You cheer with Jack.
Your phone screen was filled with Jack’s bright smile. You swear every time you see it, the world stops and you fall in love with him more and more. Leia plasters a smile on her face that is almost exactly the same as his; dimples on both sides of her face.
“Leia, I’m so proud of you, princess. I can’t wait to see you in a few days.” Jack says to his daughter.
“Dada,” she replies excitedly.

“Say, dad-dy,” Trevor instructs Milo, clapping his small hands together to break up the word. His dark hair is pushed back by one of your headbands so Milo won’t tug at it.
The youngest Zegras stares at his father like a deer in headlights. His e/c eyes had no thoughts behind them but glistened with excitement. Milo sat on his father’s lap, wrapped in a soft blanket to hide him from the chilly morning breeze. You emerge from the bathroom, your hair damp and clean. You drop your towel on one of the door hooks before creeping near your and Trevor’s shared bed.
“Dad-dy,” Trevor breaks it down again.
You grin in amusement, watching Trevor throw his head back when a giggle escapes from Milo.
“C’mon Milo, you’re killing me, kid.” Your dramatic husband whines. He playfully shakes Milo, grinning from ear to ear at the young boy’s laughter. Milo was on the verge of tears from how hard Trevor had him laughing.
Grabbing your phone from off the charger, you give Trevor’s leg a few pats. “Let’s start making breakfast. Give the talking a little break.” You softly say before pressing your lips to his.
As you ventured away from your bedroom, you could hear Trevor’s footsteps following behind you. He held Milo close to his chest as he made airplane noises that heavily entertained the little Zegras in his hands. It was nearing noon on a chilly Saturday. You, Trevor, and Milo spent the morning resting in bed as you wanted to enjoy the lazy day— especially since Trevor didn’t have anything hockey-related.
It has been a while since your little family could spend some time together without any interruptions or distractions. Moments like these are what both you and Trevor cherished the most.
Trevor plopped Milo down on his play-mat that was spread across the living room. Various toy options crowded almost every inch of the large space. You clicked on the TV to turn on the news before heading to the kitchen to whip something up for yourself and your two boys.
“Babe, when do you think he’s going to start talking?” Trevor asked as he handed Milo a mini race car.
You grab the carton of eggs and pancake batter, “He’s almost one, he’ll talk when he’s ready. We can’t rush it, Trev.” You call out.
Trevor pouts at your words. He knows that you’re right but he couldn’t help his excitement. He always dreamt about having a family of his own and being there for every little thing. But with hockey season being in play, he misses so much when he’s away.
Standing up, Trevor begins to make his way towards the bar counter of the kitchen. That way he could keep an eye on Milo while keeping you company. As he walks past the sofa, his foot accidentally collides with the thick wooden legs at the bottom. You watch with wide eyes as Trevor’s body folds and his arms reach towards his foot.
“Shit!” He whisper yells at the impact. Trevor rubs his foot at a rapid pace while swearing up a storm in his head.
You let out a laugh before scolding him, “Trevor! No cursing in front of Milo!”
Trevor rolls his eyes and glares at you, “He didn’t even hear me.” He says. He takes a seat on one of the barstools and rubs his temple. “We need to baby-proof that sofa. It’s going to kill someone someday.”
You sigh at the dramatics and begin pouring some pancake mix onto the pan on the stove. “You need to stop cursing in front of him. He’s gonna pick up on that nasty habit one day.”
“Hey!” Trevor points an accusing finger at you. “You curse way more than I do! Besides, like I said, he didn’t hear me.”
A silent beat passes between the two of you as you focus your attention onto the pancakes. It’s peaceful for a moment until you hear a tiny voice coming from the living room.
“Shit.” Milo mumbles while reaching for more of his race cars.

“Are you ready, Ellie?” You ask the four-year-old who sat in the backseat. Her big curious eyes stared out the window; awestruck by the sight of the bright lights that poured out from the arena. Her mouth was formed in an ‘o’ shape as she watched people in different numbers jerseys make their way through the large doors. “Ellie?” You call out again, hoping to catch her attention as you turn off the car.
Snapping her head in your direction, Ellie beams up at you, a big smile was spread on her face. “Yes momma, I’m ready.”
You hop out of the front seat with all your belongings before shuffling down to the back. When you open Ellie’s door, she shivers slightly from the chilled wind that pushes its way into the car. You reach over to unbuckle the girl from her car seat. Ellie snuggles her face deeper into the white and blue scarf you had wrapped around her before leaving the house. She raised her arms as you picked her up from the car seat and placed her down beside you.
Ellie didn’t hesitate to reach for your hand as the two of you began to make your way into the arena. You could already hear the overpowering voices of fans in the stands from outside.
A wave of warmth hits both of your faces once you step inside. You could hear Ellie let out a breath of relief from the temperature change. She grips your hand tightly as you make your way through the blocked entrance. The security guard that was stationed to watch it gave both of you smiles before stepping to the side to let you walk in.
You couldn’t help but grin at the excitement planted on Ellie’s face. Her eyes darted all around as you entered the crowded arena. Both of you wore matching jerseys. Both of them being the number sixteen. The only difference was yours saying “Marner” while Ellie’s said “Daddy”. It was Ellie’s first time attending an NHL game, her first time seeing her dad play in person.
When you gave birth to Ellie, both you and Mitch thought it was best to keep her away from the cameras and the internet. You didn’t like the idea of your child’s face being plastered all over social media, especially when most people don’t have the best intentions with their posts. Mitch immediately agreed with you. He didn’t want Ellie dealing with the press or fans so young. That’s why the two of you collectively agreed to not bring her to any games or events until she was older.
As you made your way towards your seats, you could hear some whispers amongst the crowd. A few girls had realized who you were. The words ‘Mitch’s wife’ and ‘it’s Y/n’ bounced around the area.
Instead of sitting in the WAGs section, you opted for the seats closer to the boards for a better view of Mitch. That was something else that Mitch agreed with. He preferred for you to sit closer; that way he could keep a protective eye on you and now Ellie while he’s on the ice.
“Where’s daddy?” Ellie questions as the two of you sit in your respective chairs. Her little eyes glance at all the men in their hockey uniforms, searching for his dad amongst them.
Both teams— the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Anaheim Ducks— were warming up on the ice. Each set of players was completing their drills and stretches. Some players lingered around the benches, conversing with each other and the fans around them. You carefully scanned the ice, smiling at the sight of Mitch laughing with Auston.
“Look Ellie, daddy is right over there with Uncle Auston.” You gently use her finger to point in the direction of the two men.
A gasp escapes her lips once she catches her dad’s figure. She excitedly taps your arm and repeatedly points at Mitch. “Daddy!” She shouts, hoping to get his attention.
You try your best to fight off the laugh that threatens to leave you as your daughter shouts at the boards like a madman. As you keep in your giggles, the sight of your daughter on the jumbotron catches you by surprise.
“Ellie, you’re on TV.” You inform the little girl whose jaw drops at the sight of her face on the large screen. Shyly, she tucks her head into the side of your arm, gaining a course of ‘awws’ to flood the arena. You could see Mitch watching the screen with a big smile on his face.
Right as the game was starting, you pulled out the noise-canceling headphones Mitch had bought for Ellie and placed them over her ears. She unwrapped herself from the side of your arm and focused on the ice; ready to watch her dad play.
ᯓ 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙥 ᯓ
The game came to an end after a few hours and the Scotiabank Arena erupted with the cheers of Maple Leafs fans. The buzzer signaled that the Leafs had won the game 9-2. Ellie cheered with the crowd, her body now resting in your lap. Throughout the game, Mitch sent Ellie numerous waves and heart signs with his gloves, and Auston occasionally did as well. Every time the cameras would pan onto both of you, Ellie would stand up and turn around, her fingers pointing at the number printed on her back.
While people started to exit the arena, you and Ellie began walking off toward the waiting area near the locker room. Some of the WAGs stood around and spoke to each other. A lot of them stopped to say ‘hi’ to Ellie when she went to greet them.
You watched as she waited at the door the guys would be exiting from. She was bouncing up and down with anticipation. Once the door opened and players began filing out, Ellie cheered. Each of them gave her a high-five as they walked through the exit to meet their family and friends. Auston and Mitch were the last two to emerge from the locker room, both of them in a very animated conversation.
When Mitch spotted Ellie, he rushed over to scoop her up and toss her into the air. He began planting kisses all over her face as she squirmed and giggled.
“What did you think of the game, El?” He asks while walking towards you. Mitch gives you a soft peck on the lips before focusing back on his daughter. “Did you enjoy your in-person hockey game?”
Ellie nods, matching her dad’s golden retriever energy. “You were so cool, daddy!” She compliments. “Momma and I cheered for you the whole time. But I had to drink lots of water because my voice hurt.” Ellie explains to her dad while using her hands to tell the story.
Mitch looks fascinated by his daughter’s words as he nods to each thing she said. He was glad that she enjoyed her time at the arena. It was about time his favorite girls were there to watch him play. He couldn’t wait for the next game, and neither could Ellie.

❝ all i can say is i was enchanted to meet you. ❞
warnings — movie dallas (matt dillon), mention of armed robbery, smoking, fluff, love at first sight vibes, dallas being dallas
Tumblr media
dallas winston had never set foot inside a bookstore — that is unless you count the one time in new york before he was arrested. at that time though, he was brought along by these guys he would hang around in the subway. he watched as they pulled a gun on the old lady running the shop, the woman cowering as she handed them the money.
dallas thought about that often, he wasn't sure why they decided it had to be a bookstore of all places — did they even make money worth taking?
he hadn't exactly planned to go into that kind of store ever again, he wasn't the kind of guy that enjoyed literature of any kind and he couldn't be caught in a place like that; it would ruin his reputation. on one particular day though, he found himself being dragged to 'the book garden' — ponyboy's favourite store.
unfortunately for dallas, today he was tasked with accompanying johnny and pony as everyone else was busy. it's not that he didn't like them, because he did, he'd just rather spend his saturday doing anything else.
the three of them walked into the store where you just so happened to be working today. you glanced up at the ring of the bell when the door opened, seeing the trio of greasers. you gave a small smile to ponyboy, recognising him as he was a frequent customer. johnny you knew from school when he came and dallas — well, everyone knew dallas — but you didn't know him.
you kept yourself busy where you were, stocking the shelf with new additions. there were lots of interesting copies in there of old fairytales, you picked up a stack of seven rather thick books and walked slowly towards the fantasy section.
you could barely see over the stack but you knew your way around the store well so you felt confident enough to walk through blind. you did feel confident walking through blind, at least, that was until somebody bumped into you and made you and your stack of books fall to the floor.
you frowned, wincing as your knees came into contact with the hard wood.
you started gathering your books hurriedly, hearing a huff from above you. "you should watch where you're goin', huh? people are tryin' to walk here."
you swallowed hard and got up, balancing the pile of books in your arms once again and coming face-to-face with dallas winston.
"i'm— i'm sorry..." you sputtered out in apology, feeling embarrassment creep its way into your gut. you really should've known something like this had to happen at some point — you just didn't expect it to be dallas in particular.
the roughed up teen chewed the inside of his cheek, his eyes noticeably looking you up and down as if examing you before he looked away for a moment. he licked his teeth in a smile as he turned back to you.
"so— so what are you? uh, a— a librarian?" he asked with a little chuckle. "kinda cute."
you blinked slowly, his words catching up with you. "no... librarians work in libraries," you told him as you chewed your lip, "hence the name."
dallas tilted his head to the side and back into place in a shrug, letting out a low hum in acknowledgement. he wasn't the brightest, okay? how was he supposed to know that?
"you work here then?" he asked, despite it being obvious due to your attire and the fact you were cleary putting new stock away.
"mhm, yeah," you told him as you slid the books you were holding into their correct places on the shelf. "been working here for two years or so."
dallas nodded and sucked his cheeks in, rolling his eyes as ponyboy called him over to the exit.
"well," dallas leant down slightly as he got closer to your face, "i s'pose you might be seein' be around here more often," he claimed with a wonky grin.
"what?" you questioned with a furrowed brow, "you like reading?"
"no," dallas shook his head, "i seem to be growing quite fond of you though, darlin'."
you were flattered despite the fact that this was your first proper meeting — you understand why so many girls from your school would talk about him now. you were definitely falling for his charm, that's for sure.
"o— okay... bye," you told him quickly before hurrying back over to the staff room and closing the door. you leant against the wall and cupped your face in your hands, letting out a little screech of embarrassment and gently smacking yourself.
dallas winston had never set foot in a bookstore — and now he would make sure he did at least weekly.

You can donate to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund for as little as $1.00.
Tumblr media
There is a fee you can choose to apply to cover processing.
Tumblr media
Which if you choose to do leaves you with a total of ~$1.35 (USD) depending on the type of card you have.
Tumblr media
PCRF has a score of 97% on Charity Navigator.
Adults and children alike are currently dying in Palestine due to starvation. (World Health Organization Link)
The Gaza Strip is one of two places in the entire world that is categorized as Phase 5 (the highest phase) on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification scale.
So even if you think it isn't enough, remember that donating even as little as $1.35 helps! It's $1.35 they wouldn't have had otherwise. So donate if you can. 🇵🇸
