for me it's a tie between
Tumblr media
('Mayhem cancelled' in Finnish)
and
Tumblr media
('I'm tired' and 'Soft cat' in Estonian)
folks with chronic fatigue (or undiagnosed but pervasive fatigue lasting years) what are your favorite reaction gifs or images for exhausted?

4 photos of this book are a huge meme in Finland! People love it! It’s so cute! It’s in Estonian, so the words are almost like Finnish but not quite. It took me half a year to find a copy of this book as a present to my girlfriend (it’s her favorite meme) and finally I have it! Now I can show my fellow finns the rest of the pages too! And you can see the name of the book and you can go buy it from here!

the whole point of a zine is that it's cheap to produce, amateur and homemade. if you're being asked to apply to participate in a print project, it is not a zine. if the final product is being printed and bound professionally, it is not a zine. if you are being asked to enter into any kind of licensing agreement more complex than "my work can be reproduced as part of this publication" it is not a zine. nine times put of ten if the final product costs more than $5 you have left zine country. im so serious about this.

Alternate inverted belief-based magical system: the more you believe in magic, the weaker your magic is. The more you convince yourself that magical effects are coincidence, luck, or Perfectly Rational Phenomena, the more powerful your magic becomes. Logically, there is no way to consciously or deliberately do this, because if you're training a non-belief in magic in order to gain magic, you by definition already believe in magic

It bothers me how many people are morally incurious, and it bothers me even more how many people seem to think that interrogating morality is proof of immorality- because I'm pretty sure that the latter is at least partly driving the former. Asking why an action or institution is wrong does not necessarily mean that someone thinks that that action or institution is right. If you never ask yourself why something is wrong or right, then what is determining your morality? Because it's not you.

y'know, speaking as someone with a micropenis, i have some thoughts on jokes regarding dick size. i don't think jokes like that should be completely off the table, but i also don't like how some of these jokes are handled.
i don't think it's okay for the aim of a dick joke to be at the expense of people with small, "weird looking", or non-perisex penises. personally, i really don't mind that i have a micropenis for the most part, and i'm not ashamed of it. but i can see how other people who, for one reason or another, have a smaller than average penis might feel that intense shame because of the way society talks about penis size.
penis size is often treated as if larger sizes are by default more desirable, but there's no real reason for this. and you could argue that larger sizes are better for sex, but what does that have to do with a person's worth as a romantic partner, a friend, a professional, or a just a human being? it's a subtle form of objectification that assumes characteristics such as dominance, virility, and competence are tied to penis size when there is no evidence to indicate that that is the case. this is a part of toxic masculinity that measures a person's worth by the length of their dick and it's absurd.
and i think that absurdity is worth mocking. i think when we make "compensating for something" type jokes, it needs to be about pointing out how foolish people look when they try to reinforce the nonsensical demands of toxic masculinity or use the language of toxic masculinity to communicate their worth. it doesn't matter whether or not they have a big dick. it matters that they care. that is worth mocking.

An often overlooked distinction is that between prescriptive and descriptive definitions. Many things we treat as law – scientific rules and terms, for example – are not prescriptive rules that the world must follow, but instead are simply the best descriptions humans could come up with for the observable patterns that appear to us like rules.
As such, we often encounter challenges to long-standing descriptive definitions, but in many cases we simply call them exceptions instead of adjusting the descriptions that we devised in the first place.
Take, for example, the concept of “mammals.” Based on human-made descriptive definitions, mammals give live birth. However, some mammals, like the platypus and certain types of clown, lay eggs. While clowns are generally considered mammals, they are taxonomically difficult to categorize, and their wide range of biological traits and unpredictable gene expression has caused decades of heated debate among research balatrologists.
Some radical scientists have even claimed that clowns may in fact be more closely related to fungi than animals, a claim that requires further investigation but presents compelling challenges to the existing literature and demonstrates the pitfalls of stubbornly adhering to descriptive definitions as if they were prescriptive.
