Sir Ian McKellen to open historic all-trans and non-binary production of Shakespeare classic

Sir Ian McKellen will open a brand new production of the Shakespeare classic Twelfth Night featuring all trans and non-binary performers.

The Lord of the Rings star, 86, will join in on the one-night only rehearsed reading by the theatre group Trans What You Will in July.

Staged at London’s The Space Theatre, the reading will be broadcast globally via a livestream. All profits are going to the UK-based trans charity, Not A Phase.

The performance will take one of Shakespeare’s most well known and gender-fluid works and reimagine it through a trans lens.

“With mistaken identities, cross-dressing, and declarations of love across shifting gender roles, Twelfth Night has long explored the complexity of identity,” a press release reads.

“This production makes that queerness explicit, reclaiming the story through the lived experiences of trans and nonbinary artists.”

Phoebe Kemp, who is directing, has said: “Twelfth Night already toys with gender and performance, it feels like Shakespeare wrote it for us. This reading is about joy, solidarity and showing what’s possible when trans and nonbinary artists are at the centre of the story.”

The performance, which will take place ahead of London Trans+ Pride, has also been billed as “a joyful act of protest and pleasure activism, celebrating gender diversity at a time when trans representation remains under threat.:

No hate to the new CHILD actors of the upcoming HP show but i've seen lots of people going: "We didn't want this" or "No one asked for this". While I agree I also don't want Warner Bros to make a HP show, I don't want them to make a Marauders show either. The Marauders fandom have built up so much and taken characters from the original series and made them their own. If we got Marauders show it would not only undermine the characters we all love but also just erase all of the joy people get from the characters as the show would most likely ruin the characters. Especially with fucking JKR behind it, all of the specifically queer elements would be gone and I would never be able to return to the fandom again of sadness/disappointment. Warner Bros should have done a series on Voldemort's backstory as I imagine JKR would have an easy time writing more about him due to some similarities she has with the snake man. Again no hate to the new Harry, Ron, and Hermione, as they are children and I believe they will be excellent. Idk what do y'all think. Also if I haven't said it a few times above Fuck JKR she's a terf and we should not give her any more money. Fuck you JKR.

This is such an odd thing to say, to be forced to say, but here I am. If anyone sees my pfp or reads my reblog from snappy users and thinks I've sided with the Marauders or Snape or whatever else, I want to publicly post that I could not care less. Characters do good things, bad things, and it blends together. Re-writing a story or only focusing on certain events dumbs a character down to a single viewpoint. If we take these characters as real people, it's simply not viable to see a person from a single light for better or worse. It's honestly pathetic how grown adults are siding like Capulets and the Montagues over a damn children's book. These people are only proving the point JKR made in her books - people take sides, make idols out of those figures, and their entire view of event becomes fabricated based of the demonization of glorification of one party. Checkmate, you are Draco, Remus, and Lily. As much as I love escapism, I still have school - papers to write, tests to take, homework to do, and seeing people have the ability to start petty arguments reminds me of how cushiony some of our lives really are and how much free time we sit on to even discuss such trivial things.

In my defense I enjoy being at an airport so yes I would not take the risk.
