Pearls of Wishes

A queer regency era inspired fantasy adventure about a young future prince discovering the atrocities of the kingdom he's being married into. As a privileged model minority, he witnesses the oppression of others within and outside of his diaspora in a nation he's supposed to rule for the first time. He has to figure out if and how he can make needed change, while picking up the pieces of his own family's generational trauma.

The descendant of refugees, now an assimilated model minority, Ceelyo lives a life of comfort as a soon-to-be prince. However, a mysterious visitor sets him on a new path to reconnect with the culture and family his grandfather wants to leave behind. As he begins to peel back the picture of a nation overcoming its racist past, he discovers that his privilege depends on him following the rules, but even more might depend on him breaking them.

Long and short of it, I'm making a story about a white-haired anime boy who's on a journey to find himself, but ends up finding out how racist and bad the nation he's supposed to inherit is while running from a religious nationalist cult.

The MMC has been my brainchild since I was a child and I'm finally bringing him to life. Started actively in fall of 2023, finished the first draft end of 2024 and currently halfway through the revisions.

anyone else out here writing a story that's cozy fantasy adjacent but instead of cozy vibes, you're putting your cute lil OC in tough situations and stressing them tf out?

ig when I say cozy... I mean low action and lots of interpersonal character driven moments with cozy aesthetic vibes.

my story is regency era inspired and and epic adventure. there is fighting and action here, but that's not the focus.

my MC doesn't get the cozy vibes tho, he's inundated with sm stress on page. I want to swaddle him in a warm blanket and give him a cup of milk and a cookie but instead I have him running away from a religious nationalist cult while trying to figure out what some magical item does.

you know, cozy stuff.

he in fact has NO idea how to use his fancy sword. he's a prissy lil dandy who knows more about ballroom etiquette than how to survive in the real world, let alone any sword skills.

current chapter im working on, he's literally asking a swordswoman "so why does my sword look this fancy? and can you teach me how to use it pwease?"
