Studying for an exam: expectation vs reality
When I’m studying for my exams I have 5+ tabs open, a notebook, my notes app, a word document, and multiple pencils/pens/highlighters out 😩 This isn’t even for a midterm or final!
PS: Notice the lighting change? I’ve been studying for this exam off and on since 9:30 this morning

Have you heard of the Konmari Method?
Marie Kondo, a Japanese organizer and author of “the life-changing magic of tidying up” became very popular when her Netflix series “Tidying up with Marie Kondo” hit.
The Konmari Method includes four lessons: Clothing, Books, Papers and Komono.
In the clothing lesson, you take every single article of clothing you own and put it on your bed. With each item, you hold them one by one in your hands and ask yourself “does this spark joy?”
In the books lesson, it’s the same idea. Gather all of your books, hold each one in your hands, and ask yourself “does this spark joy?”
The papers lesson is a little different, you take every coupon, receipt, bill, document, etc. and sort them. The papers that aren’t important, you get rid of. Sentimental papers should be stored in boxes.
The komono lesson is an accumulation of every single miscellaneous item. This is split into categories when organizing your entire home: general (DVDs, CDs, Cords, Remotes, Craft Supplies, Pet Supplies, etc.), kids, office, kitchen, decor, garage, bathroom, and cleaning supplies.
I have midterms in 2 weeks and felt my bedroom was unorganized, which is just going to cause me more stress during midterm week.
Today was the first and second lesson, clothing and books. I have successfully gotten rid of a 30 gallon bag of clothes. I used Marie Kondo’s folding methods and folded the items I didn’t want hanging. Especially to make my closet look less cluttered. As far as books go, I only have my full collection of Harry Potter novels that I kept. This is the result of my closet!

Chrome extensions I actually use as a mentally ill university student
Making websites easier to digest:
Dark Reader - Changes any webpage to dark mode.
Mercury Reader - Simplifies the layout of any webpage to eliminate distractions and irritating formatting.
Podcastle AI - Turns any article into a podcast. This is a lifesaver for being able to process what I’m reading, to be honest.
Spelling/grammar:
LanguageTool - Spelling and grammar check for those of us who regularly type in more than one language.
Grammarly - Spelling and grammar check for those of us who only type in English. Can be used with LanguageTool installed, which is what I do.
Google Dictionary - Define any word on the webpage with a double-click.
Google Translate - Translate an entire webpage or even just a short segment.
Misc:
AdGuard Adblocker - After trying quite a few adblocker options, this is the one I find the best.
The Great Suspender - Automatically suspend inactive tabs to help with performance.
Honey - Try coupon codes automatically to save money on online purchases.
Built-in Chrome tab grouping - Group your tabs to keep organized and minimize distracting clutter.

Today was a bit of a rough day for me, but that’s OKAY! I didn’t get anything on my study list done because my brain would not let me focus. I do have a test tomorrow but I plan on waking up a bit earlier than usual so I can get some studying in.
You DO NOT have to be productive 24/7. Take a break! Take a day off if you need it! Make your mental health a priority!!

What my ADHD looks like:
- Wanting to study but getting frustrated at textbooks because they have so much information
-Finally studying but getting cold and having sensory issues, thus stopping the studying process
- Not being able to answer questions on the spot even though I know the information
- Getting distracted by noises
- Getting overwhelmed with how many tasks I actually have to complete
- Taking medication for ADHD but not being able to focus on one task at a time

Sunday morning study plan :)
I have 3 quizzes and 1 exam to study for today and new textbook chapters to read to get ahead for next week!
On the days I spend all day studying, I like to plan everything out and then get myself ready for the day. Shower, clean up my room/desk, etc. It puts me in a motivational mindset :)

The hardest part of interning as a vet tech student is falling in love with the animals that come in and finding out they have a disease.
Today at my internship, I got to hang out with a kitten who was found on the side of the road. She was very skinny and looked frail, yet she was the cutest kitten ever. She was eating the kibble we use as treats, I was happy she was eating! I noticed that she was licking and scratching herself in different areas and sneezing. She also had a little bit of flea dirt, to no surprise. She was so sweet! I’m not usually a cat person but this one was different. I was hanging out with her in the exam room for about 30 minutes before the tech came in and told me she was FIV positive.
FIV means Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Essentially, it’s just like HIV. An infected mother can pass this virus to offspring but it can also be spread through bite wounds from cat to cat. Unfortunately, FIV cannot be cured, only treated. There are vaccinations to prevent this disease, make sure your kitten gets it! This kitten is so lucky she was brought into a home where she can get treatment, food, shelter, and love.

I’m not going to lie, I get in moods where I don’t have the motivation to do anything based on the way my desk looks. I finally got around to cleaning it up and I feel so much better :)

Got my backpack all ready for lab tomorrow :)
I like to bring my binder that has the lab notebook in it, my folders, my stethoscope and bandage scissors, pens, a pad of paper, and we’re required to bring our iPads. I will be bringing my computer to take a test on campus tomorrow as well.
Oh! And hand sanitizer of course!
(My mask is in my car, I promise 😉)
