Inspired primarily by @bestgameostcrownduel and the video game tracks submitted to @its-to-the-death's Villain Song Showdown, I'm making a video game track tournament!

Rules:

Just to be clear, I'm referring to individual tracks/songs, not full soundtracks!

Tracks should be official/come from an actual game. So no fan songs, and no K/DA situations.

Related to the above, music that was created specifically for (and used in) rhythm games is allowed, but no pre-existing songs or covers of them that happened to be used in rhythm games.

Though I hope this should go without saying, I won’t be allowing any tracks from games from the Harry Potter franchise. I’m also not allowing tracks from the series The Last of Us, and may disallow other series/games if I feel the need.

Please don’t spam the submissions with the same track multiple times, but feel free to submit as many different ones as you want.

I do require a link to the track. If you can’t find (or upload) it anywhere online, it’s not getting in, sorry.

The rules may be updated if I remember anything important I’ve left out, but that’s all of them for now. So beyond that, go wild! I’m tentatively setting the end date for the submission period to February 25; it may be extended depending on how many submissions I receive.

Villain Song Showdown Submissions

Hello! Do you have an evil little guy who sings an evil little song? Well, this tournament will find out which evil song slaps the hardest.

Some quick rules for submissions:

Must be sung by an antagonist/villain

Must be an official song for the media. (Sorry but no fan songs as good as they may be)

I will also take instrumental themes for villains.

Please don't spam one submission.

Otherwise, you can submit songs from shows, movies, plays, albums with their own lore, or any other place! The size of the bracket will be determined based on how many submissions I get so don't be afraid to put in as many as you want.

Submissions will close on December 10 at 12:00am EST (midnight).

Hello, and welcome to the best game OST crown duel, where your favourite games get to battle to the death for the crown and title of having the best soundtrack among all the other competitors!

Submissions are open! Go wild, and if you don't understand some of the wording used, I'll be happy to clarify!

However, please remember: this bracket is about the games with the best *soundtrack*, not the best game. I feel like this might go without saying, but reminders are always helpful.

Okay, so to cover the rules, in no particular order:

I, as the owner of this blog, will not be voting in anything. You even have my word on this, even though I like pressing buttons.

Bigots stay away (Zionists, racists, islamophobes, misogynists, ableists, etc).

Only submit games that have an audible or in-game soundtrack, obviously.

Idol/rhythm games are not allowed, sorry!

If it's a franchise, then you'll have to submit a specific game from that franchise.

Popular IPs are allowed.

I may not let some games in if they promote hateful content or are severely controversial. If the decision is difficult, I'll host a poll for whether it gets in. The Last of Us, Harry Potter, and South Park games are never getting in, btw.

Be respectful.

You may submit campaigns for your favourite game soundtrack in the asks or in the submission form.

Welcome to the Epic Song Lyrics Showdown!

General Information:

Is there a song lyric that fucks you up? That you can never get out of your head? That you have complex thoughts about daily? Then this is for you.

If it’s not a lyric, no worries. You can also submit cool instrumental bits, cool vocals, basically anything cool that happens only for a bit in a song.

So how much can we submit?

You can submit as many songs as you want, also as many lyrics from a song as you want. We will have multiple lyrics from the same song in the showdown probably. (The exception to this would be possibly some consolidation or maybe some elimination rounds for equity, but it’s not limited to just one lyric). In terms of length, basically don’t just submit the whole song, otherwise you’re good. As an example: the 35 ‘Know it’s for the better’ in Waiting Room by Phoebe Bridgers, that’s fine. As long as it’s not the whole song we don’t care.

How long will submissions be open?

We’re not totally sure. In our other showdowns we’ve run we’ve had submissions open for months, but we don’t think that’s gonna happen here. We will probably run at least a 128, but are willing to get as big as we need to. There will be at least 24 hour notice before we close submissions.

What can’t be entered?

There’s not anything specific that can’t be entered, just know we do reserve the right to just not include some submissions. As we will not be publishing a list of song lyrics that have been entered until right before we get the showdown started, if you want to know if your song/lyric got in, shoot us an ask.

How to submit song lyrics:

There is a google form linked. If you don’t want to use the google form you can shoot us an ask with the song, artist, lyric, where it can be found, and why you like it if you want.

going back to leitmotifs from a few days ago but please know sonic also has leitmotifs??? that is a common musical technique used??? this is from an undertale sweeper btw like undertale has amazing songs and im so glad it won but like they dont own leitmotifs 😭

Fair point, though I think it’s more of an association thing. Like if I were to pick out the best/most iconic part of Sonic music, I’d think of it’s vocal tracks before how it uses recurring themes (granted, I am a Nintendo girlie and not too too familiar with Sonic).

My favorites were definitely the ones where people were just gushing about how good their favorites are and what makes them special. Any song can slap but additional context can make you appreciate it more. The fact that there’s a made up language just for the songs in Nier and they hand carved flutes for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is incredible and will never leave me.

I understand that Sonic songs slap, but the thing is the Undertale songs are fucking MASTERFULLY woven together. Look up "undertale leitmotif* flowchart" and you will see just how wonderfully interconnected the whole game is in terms of its music. Hell, Undertale has a whole PAGE on the Fandom wiki dedicated to leitmotifs. A whole page! Just for listing the leitmotifs and where they appear! Sonic songs are good, yes, but Undertale deserves to win due to how woven together it is. I swear, the song Undertale makes me fucking bawl my eyes out.

Definitive answer time - I’ll admit that the major bracket final isn’t as one-sided as I thought it’d be. However, the match is still getting like 3-4 times as many votes as the minor bracket final, so I still think a final final fight would be a not very interesting/competitive/fun finale.

Are we not going to get a final final fight between the winner of the minor and the winner of the major bracket after this?

Honestly, I’m kinda torn on whether or not I want to do it. Cause on the on hand, it makes sense. But on the other hand, UTDR has been crushing everything it’s gone against and I’m worried it would be kinda anticlimactic.
