Today's prompt!!

Cold/Numb

Leo loved the cold.

With flakes of white floating down from the sky, crystalline specks of geometric patterns landing on the red noses of giggling children, winter was truly a sight to behold.

If only he could stay up long enough to enjoy it.

It was fine, getting a piggy back ride on Raph's shell, which had padding, was nice.

He's known cold all his life. It wasn't a bad thing, it never was, it was more of a comfort, something he sought out for constantly when he was younger. The shock that came with the sudden dropping of temperature followed by the tingling numbness was a welcomed sensation, even though his body was first wracked with violent shivers until he got used to it.

The cold of the winter was somewhat different from what he had when growing up.

Winter was fluffy, soft, a gentle breeze.

Otherwise, the cold of his friend was biting, but not harsh, more like the slow creeping of frost, never malicious and yet desperate for contact.

He loves the cold anyway.

He lets his eyes flutter, the snapping sound of April's phone taking ten pictures a minute did not deter him from the blanket of slumber. Their murmuring slowly becomes muffled as Raph's steps rocked him gently like a long forgotten lullaby.

Maybe he should take a nap...

Gentle falling snow, shining like glitters...

... Turned to hot white sparks of exposed wiring.

Leonardo hates the cold.

With shards of ice falling from the sky disguised as sprinkles of fluffy clouds, deceitfully white and pure with flecks of red, flecks of blood, his or his enemies? It was truly a gruesome sight to behold.

If he could only survive for a little longer.

It was fine, his brothers are safe, they're leaving town, he made sure of it.

He's known cold all his life. It was never a good thing, and those who tell you otherwise are liars. The winter is a witch. Cruel, unyielding, always creeping through the cracks and down into the sewers, freezing their waters, freezing everything... The blankets were never enough, the heat lamp run on a wind up generator, something their father could never wind up for long because of his numbing fingers.

The cold of winter stayed the same... a nightmare that nipped at their ankles no matter how fast they outrun it.

Winter was the chill, the burn of frost sinking into skin...

A force of nature, a slow killer, the howling of thousands of voices whispered in the biting winds of ice and snow.

He could never understand how people love the cold.

His breaths came out in puffs, mist swirling from his mouth. He lost his weapons minutes ago, pierced through a foot bot, his only solace was the hidden knife clutched knuckle whited in his fist. He was tired, his bones creaked, his muscles tense, and he swears his lungs were about to collapse, the sharp sting of the icy air entering his esophagus felt like he was swallowing razor blades.

He can't rest just yet.
