a point my wife made (yeah i tricked my wife into watching the cannibalism show, everyone clap for me) when watching shauna process javi is that its a good scene in that it shows what it actually takes to eat someone. like imagine youre reading about the donner party, and it says they killed and ate two people, and you go oh ok thats fucked but you dont really think abt what that MEANS. bc its not a split second decision like shauna swallowing jackies raw frozen ear (coincidentally thats apparently how the andes crash survivors did it), its a series of conscious decisions to do what the majority would consider the most depraved taboo of all.

you have to take all of a persons clothes off, bleed them out, clean them if theyre dirty so you dont contaminate the food, separate the bones and tendons, slice all the meat into neat little steaks, build a fire, cook the meat. deciding, again and again through this entire process, that this is necessary. processing any kinda meat is hard if youre squeamish. but meat that used to be a person? is it any wonder shauna lost it? bc i dont think she has some kinda innate darkness in her or whatever. i think its the unique trauma of having to be the butcher. i think her making nat do it towards the end is, yes, vengefulness and spite, but also just shoving that burden onto someone else as soon as she can. i think that final violent and deranged and vindictive antler queen couldve been any of them, shauna just happened to be the one who said "sure ill give it a go" when they caught that first deer. its in all of them, its in all of us
