Exams in the shadow of basilisk

As promised, here's a really juicy plot hole straight from the Chamber of Secrets:

After Harry defeated Tom Riddle and his monster, everyone is delighted and celebrating, Dumbledore calls off the exams, okay. Or wait, wait, wait. Not okay at all.

From "Order of the Phoenix" we know that OWLS were:

conducted by external examiners

crucial for students' future

Plus, they took several days.

So...how did they look in 1993? Were they also canceled? If so, how was it established, who can participate in which N.E.W.T. class? Was everyone like "Okay, everyone who wants to learn really advanced transfiguration, hop in"? Did the students have to come back in the summer for an emergency exam session? So many questions and no answers...

I'm almost sure what the Doylist one is: while writing a second book, JKR hasn't had in her mind the concept of the OWLS and N.E.W.T.S yet. In my ff, I'll try to give you a Watsonian one, but let me keep it vague, okay? It's supposed to be a restoration arc for our favorite prisoner (whose death anniversary is tomorrow, so give me some fs in the comments) and I don't want you to get distracted from that.

Dobby The Post Thief

So, I'm currently rereading "The Chamber of Secrets" and the Weasleys just broke Harry free from Privet Drive. Yey, but wait a second...what happened shortly before?

Cute, beloved Dobby visited Harry to warn him, right? In the process, it turned out that he kept his letters to create the illusion that he's been forgotten, right? Let's pause here for a minute.

Where did he actually get them from?

We know that at least three people were writing to Harry: Ron, Hermione, Hagrid. It gives three different addresses and three different owls. So, let's think for a moment:

Did all the owls had to fly past the Malfoy Manor along the way?

How did the Dobby know which letters were addressed to Harry?

How did he intercept them without the Malfoys finding out? I know that for them a house elf was basically a talking and moving piece of furniture, but come on...

Can't think of any reasonable explanation so far, how about you? Just curious ;)

Without looking at fellow Hufflepuffs, I went straight to the dormitory, laid down on my bed and started to scream.

One day. I was here one day and already  couldn't take it. Snape was just the last straw.

It was my first detention ever, but I was pretty sure it shouldn't look like that. The things he said, the way he said them...It just felt wrong. On many levels.

Sometimes you may win a battle and afterwards lay down and cry instead of celebrating.
