Reposting this with better understanding cus I guess I might've angered some(?)
For my Tenna fans, first of all, I pronounce antenna as "enn(t)-tenna", so I'm asking, and you can either reblog your answer, comment if you have a 3rd option, or vote via poll

In regards to this, I came up with a new(?) Idea! Basically my thought on darkners is that they turn into themselves when "the dark is on" (aka, the dark fountain)
Essentially the darkners undergo a "magical girl transformation," and they go from their light world object to themselves
So what if I become the new owner of the dreemurr tv, and basically turn the tv into Tenna via magic, the power of God knows what, and determination? I feel it goes with canon (as of now) and it's not breaking and canon laws (as of yet lol)
Thoughts?
Edit: whipped this crap up
Writing and need criticism
I'm writing a self insert fic of myself and Tenna where he comes into the light world through my sheer determination and refusal to have him only exist in the dark world. Basically with the lore that's in game, I'm kinda having an existential crisis like thing happening to me lol
Anyways yeah, I just don't wanna break canon if that makes sense
I know a lot of people hate ai, but I had no choice but to ask ai how I'd go about it (got some things but eh.) I wanna hear what real people would suggest because I'm still having some issues with what I can do. Maybe I'm just overthinking
This is what I have so far and I need criticism
"This is how the story goes: I meet Tenna in the dark world. The story is as usual, the fun gang meet Tenna, participate in the games, etc etc. What isn't known is that I'm in there too.
The times where we can explore and whatnot are the times I see Tenna and eventually fall in love with him. Things go as normal and at the end, while Kris and co are back in the light world and Chapter 4 begins, Tenna is put in Castle Town, and then while Kris and Susie are at church and everything is when I go to the dark world and that's when I confess to Tenna.
Through the raw determination and intense refusal to accept that Darkners are bound to the dark world, Tenna is suddenly able to explore the light world. In other words, my sheer determination and my intense refusal allows for Tenna to become more than an illusion"
Any feedback is appreciated!

Anyone willing to help me erase the background off of this image? I can't do it no matter how hard I try. The app I would use erases too much and the website I used sucks. Always erases part of the character, and the hair especially
This is the image in question

I live in what would be District 13 according to maps. I'm white and I'm pretty sure 12 is close(ish) by. I never got the whole idea regarding race. Yes some are I suppose "implied" but whatever. I'm staying out of the discourse

Biracial Native here. I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding, work is kicking my ass and I'm tired, but your points bother me.
You cannot whitewash an ambiguous character anymore than you can brownwash them - and attempts to claim otherwise more often than not fall into racism against groups like Natives due to blood quantum BS and mixed race people's due to "if you look X you have to be Y" (which necessitates "if you don't look sufficiently X you can't be Y"). (You can research how this is still used in part to deny various Tribes and Bands recognition, how Lumbee and Melungeon peoples particularly have been oppressed in this fashion which really makes the ambiguous writing paired with racially binary and stereotypical readings a painful issue.)
At the end of the day, Collins is a coward who refuses to explicitly racial characters beyond a select few (I can't remember if she explicitly, unambiguously racializes anyone who isn't Black or Very white?), and fans have latched on to some extraordinary bigoted stereotypes to "prove" ambiguous characters are [insert Ethnic group]. I'm not saying Collins didnt insert those stereotype for the same reason, but they are an extensively problematic and laboriously vague move that allows for way to much wiggle room eithe way for many reasons. I know a few people have written at length on theoffensiveness of the Covey, I know other Natives have written about how the reading of Seam as Native is a Pocahontas esque mess that hits on a multitude of fucked ideas (again we're the poverty stricken drunkards and savages, Katniss being mixed but still hitting European beauty ideals and signalling stereotyped Native looks, falling for the white male savior in Peeta who is so good and noble and pure and from a better class, no reinvented or secretly passed on tribal lore or anything tying Seam people to specific pre-existing Natives which is a huge slap to the face), I'm unsure but wouldn't be surprised if Asian writers have tackled how choosing to read District Three epitomises Techo-Orientalism (and erases Desi diaspora while doing so).
Am I saying anyone who reads ambiguous characters as racialized is Bad? No. Please go ahead and do it! Diversity is an unambigous good. I'm no ones mamma or the fandom police here to take away your barbies. What I'm saying is you can't present it as The One True Reading, and people on either side of this issue need to understanding the underlying problems with how these characters are written. Meaning if you (speaking generally) want to read Katniss as Native, then it's on you to listen to Natives explaining why they disagree or why it's a problematic portrayal (copy paste for other relevant characters). If you choose to create with Native Katniss in mind, you need to educate yourself extensively. It is just as as much a problem in 2025, just as backwards, to write a superficially Native character and pat yourself on the back for it as it is for Collins to dodge and duck from raciallizing many of her characters.
And concerning Whitewashing, movie continuity is clearly different to book continuity and presents pre-existing characters as different. (Whitewashing also isn't technically accurate here and is a disagreeable term when other characters like Beetee were not cast as White but also don't exactly follow their book description. It is not equivalent.)
Finally I need to say that it is egregiously painful that THG is written and often read as a future that somehow slid back into 1910s style segregation and that is not tackled either in fandom or in canon. That it is not even remarked upon in canon let alone dismantled or explored tells me there is no thought out reason for it, meaning it is a racist choice of the author in order to lazily signal how bad the dictatorship. Racial mixing is almost non existence or frowned upon, too. That fandom at large rarely deigns to confront this honestly while lording itself progressive for reading all these slave-caste characters as brown is the worse betrayal.
I hope this made sense. I'm not targeting you, I hope you understand, but this discussion has been going on since the debut of the first book and it is supremely frustrating to see common fandom attitudes refuse to go beyond "but brown!!!" And actually acknowledge criticisms and do the work. (Not letting studios off the hook but there's no way to slay that dragon whereas ideally fandom would actually sit back and listen one of these days.)
First of all i understood very well this was not a target, and I thank you for your insight.
I do agree with you with the fact that The Hunger Games does not have #one true reading and it is widely applicable to a lot of realities, and that the writing does not present an unproblematic vision of District 12 as an allegory of Native American experience within its world. I also do agree with your first point, and I want to sit on it so I thank you for making me notice how much of a slippery slope it can lead to discuss about white washing (i won't speak on my own experience here, but it could also be relevant for it, so i thank you for the callout).
I understand movie continuity is different (though i was not referring to them), especially for the timeline the og trilogy movies came out, but I think in the year of our lord 2025 Suzanne Collins had no reason to actually shy away in sotr from flashing out better what seemed to be the commentary on racism in the og trilogy. Or at least an attempt to. And that is maybe what I have a bigger problem, given the way the fandom praises her for the way she presents Panem and the characters.
But as you also pointed out, the setting of THG also does not give any explanation for its division in districts other than "keeping the poor devided", which does not work when we're not given any actual insights on the war and how they got to that level of segregation.
I am not sure my own answer makes much sense, but I thank you for your ask and will definitely reflect on the points you brought up!

one of the things i hate most about thg as a whole (og trilogy, the prequels) is that sc never NEVER confirms or denies the ethnic background of her characters, not even in her interviews, and this leads to all this fandom discourse and civil wars about district 12 population and now the covey. “the seam is made of poc” “the coveys are meant to be romani” yes okay, but what the author meant with her characters descriptions? why she never answers this questions? and most important: did she really wrote this characters to be poc or she just chose to let the fandom decide for her? because we're in 2025 now, so what's stopping her. the movieverse, where almost everyone is white? i'm sorry, but i'll never fully buy into the notion that she wrote the characters to be poc as a woc myself. yeah, i can see some evidence in the text, but it's not enough (to me). katniss mentions that they're from appalachia and haymitch tells us he's from the mountains but never acknowledges his appearance, not even once he mentions his black hair, “olive skin” and grey eyes. same as lenore dove .. and mind you, i've already seen some fans declaring that whitney peak has her looks. and i'm like: where? where in the text does sc describe her as a black woman? because all i can recall of lenore dove's physical description is haymitch telling us that she has some red in her hair. that's all. and yeah i'm not saying that i'm against peak or unsatisfied with her casting, but sc could have done something great and give us the ethnic background of lenore dove; maysilee, after all, has been described as white both in cf and sotr. and i wanted her to give us some undeniable proof because when i think about the covey i don't see them as romani, but as hippies, the ones from the 60s and 70s (and we could talk about romani representation and how it's done by authors that are not romani and what really is a good representation of them but that's another whole discourse to have) and for the seam .. fans from appalachia says they're melungeon coded and that could mean a lot of different backgrounds and looks and also features because melungeon people are basically a mixed ethnic group with native, black and white ancestry. so who's gonna win the civil wars? apparently no one, because author's too coward to acknowledge race and the meaning she gave it in the books with merchant people being blonde and white and seam people being .. probably poc? and also. why and how come has district 12 come to this racial parting? guess we'll never know!
I do agree with all of this!!!
Now, I think the intention Suzanne Collins had behind the books was to make a commentary that was adaptable to other contexts other than the strictly American one, even though- of course- her book being based in America does not help this. The original trilogy does have multiple physical descriptions that tells us what the characters look like. In fact, I'd dare say that during the three books Suzanne Collins' writing of characters is fairly descriptive; not only does she tell us their looks "bright, dark eyes and satiny brown skin" (Rue) , but also their stature, or their body type (Peeta's stocky build).
In Catching Fire Katniss gives us this description of Haymitch: dark curly hair, grey eyes, strong and "a looker".
But as you have said she has never been brave enough to specify their ethnic/racial background beyond these ambiguous descriptors.
Sunrise on the Reaping, though, is intentionally vaguer. We don't get a single cameo from District 11's Victors, even though it would have been completely justified by what was previously established of Haymitch's character, but the only characters that are afforded an actual physical description seem to be Maysilee and Louella/LouLou. It's true that we already do have a physical description of young Haymitch, but Suzanne Collins omitting Haymitch's looks from the book feels a way to make the character more adjacent to the movie portrayal, and while I did enjoy WH's portrayal of Haymitch I won't lie when I say that the casting of Sunrise on the Reaping upset me very badly.
I think that the Covey problem stems mostly from the fact that, unfortunately, Suzanne Collins has no idea what to do with them. They are based on barebones stereotypes about Rromani people, but otherwise we don't see their culture in its entirety because we never get to see it from the point of view of someone who is actually Covey. The only descriptions of the Covey we get are from outsiders who interact with Covey girls (Snow and Haymitch), and most of these descriptions are... limited, at best.
I feel that the choice of casting Lenore Dove as black, despite the lack of physical descriptions about her apart from her auburn hair, was a way for both Lionsgate and Suzanne Collins to raise their hands in defense to what they knew would be the casting criticism. As far as we know about her character, Lenore Dove's actress could have had a perfectly irish look and it would have still been accurate to the book as long as she had red hair. The retconning of Haymitch's look, who in Catching Fire had been given a more detailed physical description, was already in the plans during the books' writing.
I feel like all of these problems are only accentuated from Suzanne Collins writing new installments, and never truly sticking with a clear vision of anything. And, if Sunrise on the Reaping is going to be followed by others, I am sure the vision is going to get further blurred. The Hunger Games trilogy is a very good series of novel, and its merits and flows balance each other out. TBOSBAS was also a very good installment, though not as balanced as the trilogy. I fear that, with Sunrise on the Reaping, we are seeing the start of the end for the serie as we have always conceived it.

I'm just gonna say it outright
I don't like Lenore Dove. People gave great examples as to why she's a flawed character (check the anti lenore dove tags), but one reason is that I ship myself with Haymitch. I have since before the announcement of SOTR. There, I said it. Idk what else to say.

I'm making a post for really the artists who follow me.
Thank you all for all the wonderful pieces you all did! I love each and every one of them. Unfortunately, I'm going to need to take a break from paying as I need to save money and whatnot. Might be months before I can pay for more. The good news is that my next idea will consist of 3 characters, but that can't happen right now as my budget is $20 - $25 and I highly doubt anyone would do that (I mean, if you want, dm me lol)
Until then, guys!
