Potent minimalist art sends a strong message about police and vigilante brutality in America
Journalist and artist Shirin Barghi has created a gripping, thought-provoking series of graphics that not only examines racial prejudice in today’s America, but also captures the sense of humanity that often gets lost in news coverage. Titled “Last Words,” the graphics illustrate the last recorded words by Brown and other young black people — Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant and others — who have been killed by police and vigilantes in recent years.
Let us not forget their voices

These pictures are from all over. The first is the view from my campus. It's about 7 km from the city center in an area known as Santa Fe. While still part of the city, it feels completely different. It's very hilly and modern. A lot of large corporations have their headquarters there. It's considered a fancier part of town.
The second photo is Torre Latinoamericana and it's the first skyscraper successful built on highly active seismic land.
The next two photos are of the Palacio Postal (Postal Palace). It's the most beautiful post office I've ever been too and I've heard that when it's open for business it has a vaguely Harry Potter feel but both times I've gone it's been closed because of electrical issues😣.
The fifth photo is of Palacio Bellas Artes, an art museum that was modeled off the French palace. I haven't been in yet but I'll post pictures when I do.
The sixth photo is of an amazing library with floating shelves. It's huge with a ton of natural light and I've been studying there on the weekends.
The last four are scenes from around town. The first is some street art, of which there is a lot around the city. The second are tall skyscrapers next to old buildings. The entire city is a really interesting mix of opposites of all sorts. The third is some subway art and the last is an example of.my favorite advertisements. On many corners and in almost every subway station there are these signs advertising words that are falling our of the Mexican lexicon.

Not far from my house there is one of the largest metropolitan parks in the world. It's bigger than Central Park! I've been there every weekend because it's peaceful and beautiful. The first two photos are from the park. The last set are artifacts from the Museum of Anthropology which is also located in the park.

Photos from my first adventure around the city. The streets in my neighborhood are wide and tree lined. The buildings are old and colorful. The last photo is of the Cineteca Nacional, a government funded movie theater with cheap tickets that shows 50ish movies a week from around the world and different time periods.

I forgot what a roller coaster studying abroad can be! One minute you can be over the moon because you FINALLY found a metro station that wasn't out of metro cards after spending days paying strangers to swipe you through and the next minute you can be bewildered when you're charged $20 for a $5 print job, until you realize it's because your immigration forms were all printed on poster size paper instead of the 8.5 x 11 size expected. (Regular size paper at top of image for comparison purposes)

“My heart… is broken,” he declares, slowly turning away.
“I can fix it,” she answers solemnly. But she can’t. She dropped out of medical school the day before they learned how to fix hearts.

please make sure that wherever you’re at in life, you don’t treat it like a transitory period. don’t waste your college years wishing to already be graduated & have a job. don’t waste your single years wishing for someone to be in love with. if/when those things come, they will come in due time and they will be good. but there is nothing like looking back and feeling empty because you wasted literal years ignoring what you had because you were hoping for something better. while it’s important to better yourself and reach for your goals, don’t neglect the present because that’s where you are now and it’s your now that determines your future.
