whumper that is just as much of a whumpee as the person they keep locked in a cell. whumpee was confused at first, whumper seemed to turn green when they first drew a blade across their skin, whumpee is sure they heard the sound of vomiting once they were back in their cell. they’re still frightened, still shake and fight back whenever whumper comes with their new toys, but there’s something- something about whumper that whumpee just can’t understand.
it starts to make sense when whumper stretches to remove whumpee’s chains, bandages peaking out from under their shirt. there are days where whumpee seems more frightened than whumpee, when they step into their cell with a black eye and bruised hands they know didn’t come from their last session.
“i’m so sorry.” whumper says one day, bruised hand shaking as they grab their pliers.

Imagine if you met someone who can't eat watermelon. Not that they're allergic or unable somehow, but they just haven't figured out how to do that. So you're like "what the hell do you mean? it works just like eating anything else, you open your mouth, sink your teeth in, take a bite and chew. If you can bite, chew and swallow, you should be able to eat a watermelon."
And they agree that yes, they do know how to eat, in theory. The problem is the watermelon. Surely, if they figured out where to start, they'd figure out how to do it, but they have no clue how to get started with it.
This goes back and forth. No, it's not an emotional issue, they're not afraid of the watermelon. They can eat any other fruit, other sweet things, and other watery things ("it's watery?" they ask you). Is it the colour? Do they have a problem eating things that are green on the outside and red on the inside?
"It's red on the inside?"
Wait, they've never seen the inside? At this point you have to ask them how, exactly, they eat the watermelon. So to demonstrate, they take a whole, round, uncut watermelon, and try to bite straight into it. Even if they could bite through the crust, there's no way to get human jaws around it.
"Oh, you're supposed to cut it first. You cut the crust open and only chew through the insides."
And they had no idea. All their life this person has had no idea how to eat a watermelon, despite of being told again and again and again that it's easy, it's ridiculous to struggle with something so simple, there's no way that someone just can't eat a watermelon, how can you even mange to be bad at something as fucking simple as eating watermelon.
If someone can't do something after being repeatedly told to "just do it", there might be some key component missing that one side has no idea about, and the other side assumed was so obvious it goes without mention.

I Am Not Your Asian American Doll: a comic for AAPI Heritage Month 2023
I usually spend a lot of time editing and fine-tuning my comics so that they come across as polite and inoffensive. But honestly, I’m really tired of the way Asian cultures and countries are treated / talked about while Asian people themselves are excluded, and thought it was about time I really let my rage out lol.

I was thinking of making a few whump related things that we can all use:
1. A website where there can be competitions. (I also feel like it will feel more official to put peoples work on a website, its also good portfolio material.)
2. A pic-crew style website but you get to invent a scene. Like you start with an empty room and you can move stuff around and change the colours of the room and the people. Like a theatre meets the sims
3: I want to encourage people to make shit they can sell because I see so many AMAZING writings and art on here and, like me, you're probably worried your grandma's gonna see it if you post it on Instagram and you feel like you can't sell it because of this so, a Whump shop!
4. A prompt generator that randomly generated you with a scenario based on a whump genra, then random generated a whimper and a whumpee and an option to generate a caretaker, at the end the site merges them to give you an ultimate prompt.
Let me know what you think
It would be VERY helpful if you could guides could reblog this! If you have any ideas, shoot me an ask or put it in the comments.
Thank you!

especially when the character is big/old/strong on the surface!!!
because everyone has that terrified child inside them. imagine discovering it at someone’s lowest point, and the shame one might feel for seeing it without permission, or the relief the injured/sick one might feel upon finally being treated like somebody who needs help.
You know what’s such a good trope
When, in hurt comfort fics, the injured/sick one looks so vulnerable that the other characters have a realization about how small/young/fragile they are and get a renewed surge of protectiveness
