I just finished rereading all of WTWA and I'm so impressed! You've done so much honing of your craft on top of making the issues waaaaay longer. I lapsed reading in high school and I thought for sure by now you'd have moved on to another project, but you're still trucking! I truly forgot the Kill Bill sirens that go off in my head whenever Aurora shows up, and then whatever the opposite of those sirens is when Esme is there 😂 Everyone needs to get out of the kitchen and just let Emse and Jasmine COOK those ladies are the ones with the brain cells haha. Can't wait for the next issue!

Dude, you sent this last week, and it was really when I needed it most. I’ve been pretty down about a lot of things related to the comic—my ability to edit, the audience, the format. The list goes on and on. So for you to say that you picked it up again and noticed the improvements along the way means so much to me. And even just saying that I’m still trucking along, even though it’s been a while since the last update means a lot. Just thanks.

Also, Kill Bill sirens for Aurora is so damn accurate lol. And omg, I could not agree more. Literally, Esme and Jasmine ALWAYS know what’s up and how to deal with shit. Just let them do their thing.

Here's something random to hopefully cheer you up: would your WTWA characters like Dungeons & Dragons? I had a few random thoughts of Punze playing a bard (and choosing painting as the character's art of choice instead of the classical music), Kristoff maybe going for a fighter or a paladin and Jack... well, Jack would be a great GM with the right group! In a similar vein I'm wondering which characters might like Blades in the Dark, which is like a dark steampunk crime ttrpg with ghosts : D

This was sent forever ago, but when I first read it, it cheered me up so much. I'm a real novice when it comes to D&D, so just know—I consider all of this canon.

Jack as GM makes SO MUCH sense. I can totally see everyone hating him for it, and him just gleefully laughing at all the chaos.

For Blades in the Dark, I don’t know much about it either, but I feel like it would be the people you don’t expect—like Rapunzel, Eric, or Charlotte. I just see the sunshine kids being secretly into it for some reason.

Here’s my headcanon with Flynn/Mulan with Aladdin added in.

I honestly think he’s going to reluctantly help Mulan out only because he knows what it’s like to have a dad in a not so great medical condition.

And since Mulan is going through the same thing….his conscience is gonna get to him.

So, he’ll help out, but it will be as little as possible because he is still trying to turn his life around.

Flynn and Mulan might form an odd sort of friendship….and who’s gonna get upset over it? Aladdin.

This was sent forever ago, but headcanons are my favorite and absolutely need to be shared.

I love your reasoning for Flynn begrudgingly agreeing to help Mulan. I totally agree—since they’re both dealing with dads in different but similar situations, his conscience will get the better of him.

And I LOVE the idea of a jealous Aladdin. Wtf. That’s my favorite.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to check in since it's been awhile since the last issue. I wish I had more to show right now, but the process behind the scenes has been slower than I expected. There’s a lot I’m trying to sort out creatively, and honestly, some of it’s just been tedious and taking longer than I hoped.

It’s not for lack of care—I’m still very much invested in this story. I’ve been keeping my Patreon folks a bit more updated on some of this stuff, just because it’s a smaller space and a little easier to talk through things there. But I didn’t want to leave anyone here completely in the dark.

So, going off the style of your first playlist, here are a few I’m thinking of:

Just some softer indie songs that speak to the gentleness they’re able to get to when they talk to each other—when the world and all the familial expectations aren’t seeping in.

By the way, I LOVED your first playlist so much. Some of the songs? I could literally see the scenes because the lyrics were so spot-on for their dynamic. Amazing work.

tiana and shang are really just breaking my heart. i completely understand tiana’s hesitance to return to her usual friendliness with shang, but actually seeing it made me realize that she doesn’t get to do that with many people at all, and she lost more than just a good friend; she lost one of her few outlets for silliness and fun and everything else that every person needs. we haven’t really seen her socialize much outside of her close-knit circle, but after seeing shang rather-suddenly leave this already small circle of hers, followed by tiana struggling to respect the boundaries set by him as well as the ones she’s undoubtedly set for herself, it became really clear that their friendship wasn’t just a touchstone for romance, but so much more.

shang was someone who tiana could be herself with, which doesn’t sound like much, but i’m sure it meant the world to her when she didn’t have very many others to truly bond with. he didn’t just ask her for advice every time they conveniently bumped into one another; he didn’t view her with disdain whenever she shared a joke that toed the line between friendly and just barely approaching mean; he made time for her, and made sure she knew that he cared for her opinion; and perhaps most importantly of all, he took her seriously without viewing her as either a person of authority or a child. it seems like a lot of her peers either go to her just to confide in her or ask for her advice, or are plain irritated by her outspokenness, viewing her as something of a blank slate outside of when she’s giving her opinion. shang made it clear from the beginning that he respected her as a person, and admired her for all of the above—her wisdom and trustworthiness, as well as her outspokenness—and more.

i’m just really sad that she had to lose that person in her life, and i’m equally as sad that shang doesn’t realize that he can still be that person, and take joy in her joy as well as in their shared friendship without crossing any lines.

This was probably sent years ago (that’s how backlogged my asks are), but the analysis is so spot-on and so sweet that I had to post it.

I couldn’t agree more. This is exactly why I feel so bad for Tiana when Shang blocks her out. I completely understand his reasons for keeping his walls up, but she has so few outlets where she can truly be herself. I love how you highlighted that so many people rely on her for advice or expect her to be the mature one. But with Shang? She actually gets to be—confident yet nervous, assured yet uncertain, responsible yet playful. She gets to show all sides of herself with him. And the same goes for him with her.

THAT’S WHY THEY MAKE ME SO SAD.

Ugh, thank you for this. Now I’m spiraling about Tiang all over again, but in the best way.

hello, pumpkin! we don't know if you remember our last ask, but it's us, the original waltheads! since our last ask we've been able to do several of the group readings we mentioned before and we've caught up with the series :D we recently saw your last post discussing the comic and your personal life and we just wanted to say we completely empathize with your feelings. we've also been feeling like life has been passing us by, but your comic has been something we've looked forward to and has kept us together as a friend group as a means to bond. we are constantly discussing the comic and pondering what could possibly happen next in the plot. if any of your dreams was to leave an impact on people through your work, we can definitely attest that you've accomplished that with us! don't worry about the winter wonder, we're sure that all of our fellow waltheads won't mind the lack winter wonder if it means that you the rest you duly deserve :) please take care yourself! just keep swimming - the og waltheads

I’m so sorry it took me this long to respond to this. Sometimes, when I get messages that mean so much to me and make me so happy, I worry that I won’t be able to give them the response they deserve, so they end up sitting in my inbox.

When I first read this message, it actually brought tears to my eyes. I’m truly humbled to know that a group of friends spends time together reading the comic, making guesses and hypotheses about upcoming issues, and simply enjoying it as a group.
