St. Teilo’s Day - 9th February
Celebrating the Patron Saint of Welsh Orchards
Tumblr media
On the 9th February we observe the patron saint of orchards, St Teilo. He was born in Pembrokeshire in around 500AD, and was a famed healer across the Celtic nations. Most notably, he and a man named Samson planted huge groves of orchard trees stretching for miles as food for the Brythonic people 🌳
Tumblr media
Recently I attended a wassail at my new local Bute Park Community Orchard. It has been a wonderful first year of the orchard. We woke the trees up with horns, whistles and banging on pots. We started with a blessing forthe great orchard guardian, a crab apple tree 🍎 Then, we walked to each British orchard tree in turn from pears and apples to plums and prunes to wake them.

Wonderfully written! Please live, and celebrate your gods and spirits loudly so that they may live on, and flow into the future forever.
If you are a pagan devoted to a deity, please live.
Continue writing about them, please keep saying their names. Please keep worshiping them. If you can’t find the strength within yourself to live for yourself, please try to live for them.
I know it’s getting scary. I think it’s going to get scarier. But please, if nothing else. Live.
Thousands of years, hundreds of genocides and crusades and decimation of culture, and yet somehow my Lords still have followers. Somehow I’ve found them. Somehow these names still have meaning. Through all of us they still remain.
Despite the efforts of centuries of suppression and control, My Lord is still alive, because I am alive.
In our fringe little cults, even when we must whisper because we cannot scream.
and maybe one day we’ll be free to frolic in fields or dance in forests while we chant without fear.
but for now, just live. Please.

Blessed Imbolc/Gwyl y Canhwyllau!
To the Goddess of Spring, the Welsh deity of healing and fire, Braint, hear us welcome you! You have awoken to us cheering your name in prayer! 🐇
🌼Your inner fire brings forth the daffodils out of winter slumber. You call for the ice to thaw and the rivers to flow freely and they answer. May your light bless us on this, your honoured feast day ☀️
Tumblr media
From the wonderful Druids of Anglesey, I invite you to rejoice in this prayer to Braint:
“Braint, Brid, Briganti, Goddess of flame and light,
I sing my spell of swelling bud, light shall conquer night,
Brigid, Braint, Brigantia, a candle to you I raise,
Blessed maiden of the spring, your awakening I praise.”
Wishing you all a very blessed Spring season wherever you are!! 🌱🐥☀️

Agreed, nothing makes a cold better than Calpol, hot lemon water and a bit of smoke cleansing 🔮
The lovely thing about being a witch in the modern era is you can do SO MANY THINGS to help when you're ill. Modern meds + folk remedies + small magic = excellent combo.

Honoring Llyr - God of the Sea
Having spent a lot of time on Welsh islands recently, I’ve spent time connecting with Llyr and the sea realm.
May we find in him the same strength which can be found in the primal power of the waves. The unwavering force that carves up land.
O mighty Llyr, Lord of the boundless sea,
Ruler of waves and keeper of the deep,
I come before you with reverence and awe,
I ask for your blessing as I journey through the unknown.

May the forgotten gods be found deep in our collective memories or deep under the earth one day so we may know their names once more
To the Gods lost to time
We may have no way of knowing your name, but we do know you. We know you existed.
We may have no way of knowing what purpose you served in your pantheon, but we appreciate the work that you did, and the work you continue to do.
You may be older than what we think of as the first civilizations, you may be older than evolution, but thank you for being with our ancestors.
Thank you for holding their hands, teaching them how to hunt, which plants were edible, how to walk, how to develop.
It's because of you that humanity exists in the way we know today.
I'm sorry you've been lost to time.

These pictures make me think of the two sides of Amaethon who I worship.
Amaethon the Younger: God of the lamb and calf, nurturer of livestock and fields, ripener of fruit and the midday sun. God of hedgerows, cider and herbs.
Amaethon the Elder: God of the bountiful harvest, bringer of autumn. God of natural cycles and the changing of the leaves, of manual labour, of the earth and heavy toil. God of the herd, vegetables and the scythe.

Offering to Amaethon
O’ Amaethon, I give praise to thee,
For a blessed harvest and a bountiful reaping
I revere the natural world and the cycles of nature,
In your name, I pledge devotion to it for evermore
In the month of August, Amaethon is the deity that resonates the most for me in my practice. His presence is seen in the turning of the leaves from green to yellow, the fruiting of the blackberries, and the farmer’s busyness in the fields.
He is a guiding force when pursuing a deeper connection to the land and the cycles of the earth. I admire his ancient wisdom and the lessons he offers to lead a more sustainable way of life.

I’ve been working with Gwydion for a little while! He is my patron deity and Welsh god, known for his excellence in magic, his tutelary nature and his relationship to plants/trees.
He empowers me to become more competent in my practice and to embrace nature and science. I see him as a guiding force and he speaks to me through the wind that flows between the trees in the forest
This post is a space for anyone who worships a lesser known deity to reblog and talk about the deity, their experiences, etc.
Share away!!!

I’m a Welsh polytheist! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿So I’m engaged in Welsh and other folk traditions around the British isles! My craft or practice involves a lot of native herbalism and the work of the Physicians of Myddfai.
Please like or reblog (ideally reblog so other people in your sphere can find the post) if you post content about any of the following. If you reblog, please say which, or if you just like please reply and say which! I want to be more active on this blog and need people to follow.
- Celtic polytheism (Irish, Welsh, Brythonic, Gaulic, any really)
- Celtic witchcraft and folk magic, particularly Welsh
- British folk traditions
- Druidry
- Proto Indo-European polytheism
- Venus, Aphrodite, Ishtar and Inanna worship
- Actual genuine Wicca as opposed to the random stuff that gets passed off as Wicca in mainstream book shops
- Feri tradition
- Goddess-centric paganism (Dianic tradition, Deanism, Filianism, Reclaiming, Avalonian) and female mysteries
- Arthuriana from a pagan or feminist perspective (or pagan/feminist friendly)
- Sacred sexuality and tantra
- Herbalism, particularly with herbs native to the UK

Sometimes I wonder why I have a “hidden” altar even when I live without fear of practicing but then I think of my ancestors who would’ve had to put away their ceremonial items when preparing food or fulling cloth. There’s still culture in practicality.
I just think that having altars to the gods in our homes is so beautiful. It’s a practise that’s been carried down for thousands of years no matter how hard people have tried to wipe it out.

🔥Blessed Calan Mai!🔥
Tumblr media
As the week of Beltane celebrations come to a close across Wales and beyond, I want to share a short devotional passage to the deities and spirits of nature that bless us during this season.
The evening sky turns from dark to light,
and the willow-wielding Summer wins his fight.
I praise Beli, the light bringer, for a stalling western sun.
I praise Braint for her fire, and the darkness overcome.
May we be blessed by their warmth.
From the sun, to the hearth.
Blessed Calan Mai to all

The Houses of the Mabinogi
The Houses of Dôn and Llyr are connected by marriage through Llyr's wife, Penarddun but are diverse in their stories and personalities.
Dôn collage to the bottom left, Llyr collage to the bottom right.
The House of Dôn, apart from the mother goddess herself, boasts two powerful magicians: Math and Gwydion. Also the Goddess of the Wheel of the Year, Arianhod, and her estranged son Lleu Llaw Gyffes are popular characters of this house. The children of Dôn also include Amaethon, the god of agriculture and who started the 'Cad Goddeu' or Battle of the Trees, where all the children declared war against Arawn, King of Annwn. They only won due to Gwydion's expert wizardy with his summoning of a tree army. Finally, the grandson of Dôn, Gwyn, son of Nudd, is popular in Welsh folklore as the king of the Tylwyth Teg (fairy-folk) and leader of the Wild Hunt.
The House of Llyr is smaller in sized but full of tragedy.
Llyr has two sons and one daughter, Branwen. She gets betrothed to the King of Ireland, Matholwch. On return to ireland though, she gets forced into the kitchens. After hearing of his sisters plight, Bran the Blessed, a giant and the King of Britain, wades across the Irish Sea with an army of Welshmen, including his brother and trusted advisor Manawydan. After the tragic death of Branwen's son Gwern, the Welsh and Irish fight until no-one is left but Bran, Branwen, Manawydan and six Welshmen. Unfortunately, Bran finds a poison arrow in his leg and as he is dying, asks Manawydan to cut off his head and take it back to Wales. Upon their return, Branwen dies of a broken heart from her brother and sons death.

A Collage of my Practice 🌙
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I saw this trend going around on TikTok, mainly with Hellenic and a few Norse polytheists so I wanted to give it a go!
Until researching for my organised/tidy grimoire, I didn’t consider myself much of a polytheist at all. I liked working with the spirits of the land and the elements of nature but Welsh polytheism is as beautiful and as complex as the Greek pantheon. This has driven me to invest more time in the inspirational figures that led me here. The great magician Gwydion, a force of magical good spurs me on. Braint, the goddess of healing and light, who I’m closest to now as we transition into spring. Then, Taranis who much less is known about historically but I am aiming to get to know this god through experience instead.
If anyone else is a Welsh polytheist I would love to hear from you! Also anyone please feel free to drop a message I would love to discuss our practices ☺️
May the gods bless you on your way
