Procrastination is a killer. Dreams, vision, goals, to-do-lists just all seem to be it's target. How does one ever get anything accomplished, especially like a good dose of boogie, if they don't get up and off the wall to do it? Emmy Burlgon, of La ReUnion Island has a quick fix. She says when laziness is in her bones she gets up to get down. Kool N the Gang's "Get Down On It", is an intro groove to move her from slow motion to putting her feet into action, butt up, and her back off the wall. The words have a pretty direct approach at challenging her to hear the truth..
How you gonna do it if you really don't wanna dance By standing on the wall? (Get your back up off the wall) Tell me, how you gonna do it if you really won't take a chance By standing on the wall? (Get your back up off the wall) 'Cause I heard all the people sayin' (Get down on it) (Get down on it)"

One Day.... Stephen Becksheff, a Carribean native, migrated to the Lake side of Nêuchatel, Switzerland  to live his dream of one day being able to see a different world. Wondering what would happen if he didnt see his dream come true and remembering the words of a friend he loved but had lost whom had always encouraged him to be the change he wanted to see, he took the leap and set sail. Bakermat's 'One Day' remix to was the song he was rocking and singing to stay inspired. The lyrics were actually from a speech he'd learned in his youth..
"One day..I have a dream....."
Take a listen it might inspire you too..

As a tribute to a man who was among many things, a great musician and leader of his time, pour out his life to those around him and for many who'd come after him, we take heed to the harmonic preaching of pianist Horace Silver. He too gave tributes and one was in a song entitled A Song For My Father. Using music as a vessel to teach and tell his story, he recounts the image and tells through lyrics the words that many fathers long to hear:
"If there was ever a man Who was generous, gracious and good That was my dad The man A human being so true He could live like a king 'Cause he knew The real pleasure in life
To be devoted to And always stand by me So I’d be unafraid and free"
Don't we all long for such a force to stand next to us to help us do the same, be unafraid and free? What a powerful thought put to the voicing of strings and hammers. Sounds like he had quite a reflection before laying all this out. Songs will make you do that you know?
Take a moment and reflect on lyrics you've heard that have made you think of someone that has impacted your life for the good or helped you. Maybe the lyrics even spoke about their character? Come On, there has to be someone ....

Music can be food for the mood and a song can help you get over the wrong. Esla Prost, from Toronto, Canada threw this old groove in the mix and reminded us to keep it moving when the DJ is grooving. A good mix of some feel good sounds can help save us from a terrible stew of brain taboo. Yes, somethings the rhymes help too. Needless to say we can feel where she's coming from. She reported whenever her loves go bad and ruin the score, she buys a new pair of heels and takes it to the dance floor. The lyrics of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, Remix rocks with:
"Last night a DJ saved my life
Last night a DJ saved my life, yeah 'Cause I was sittin' there bored to death And in just one breathe he said You gotta get up, you gotta get up You gotta get down girl You know you drive me crazy, baby You got me turnin' to another man Called you on the phone no one's home Baby, why you leave me all alone And if it wasn't for the music I don't know what I'd do, yeah Last night a DJ saved my life Last night a DJ saved my life From a broken heart Last night a DJ saved my life Last night a DJ saved my life with a song"
There must be a serious life force in music if it has the power to ransom the lonely, bored, and brokenhearted.

The Dawn has a way of reminding us that the fullness of day is just ahead. When it's midtime like now and the hurdles seem steep, being able to look out into the face of light can give us hope. And who couldn't use a bit of hope to keep the heart inspired? Our man Justin from  Cologne, Germany is sharing a little hope and love with us. He sent in his lyrics from a tune he says he has had spinning around in his head for weeks. Something his parents used to play when he was a kid and now a generation later is still singing. Somehow he never forgot how it made him feel inspired to keep going when then day seemed long and low. When in doubt he'd spin the 45 of Bill Wither's Lovely Day and it would pick him right back up. Something about the lyrics just spoke to him, reminding him of some good times with a great friend that had the same kind of power. Bill sings...
"When the day that lies ahead of me Seems impossible to face When someone else instead of me Always seems to know the way Then I look at you And the world's alright with me Just one look at you And I know it's gonna be A lovely day....."
Mr Withers resembled more of a Mr. Weathers. With words such as these he sounded like he had a reason to go the distance, weathering the impossible, and regardless of the challenges ahead.

Wise people can give us a good word and a well written song can tell us a story to teach us a good lesson or two. When up goes the knowledge, down should be the direction of the Ego but in oru world it seems far too likely the other way around. It's usually the case the when we think we go up, so does the Ego, particularly when we think we've moved up in status quo or material possessions. Keeping a song in the pocket to deflate the big balloon of our thinking can spin us right back to reality before the destruction of our damage does. This sounds like what one music lover on board probably had in mind too. We've got to give it to Maritas Sinta of Valencia, Spain for sending this one to us. It's her 'remember where you came from' spoon of get right when she's moving too fast in the wrong direction. A partnership of crooners with Sting and Craig David on Rise and Fall. The insightful and the young sharing the story and keeping it real.Together they give a word to the wise :
"I always said that I was gonna make it,
Now it's plain for everyone to see, But this game I'm in don't take no prisoners, Just casualties, I know that everything is gonna change, Even the friends I knew before may go, But this dream is the life I've been searching for, Started believing that I was the greatest, My life was never gonna be the same, Cause with the money came a different status, That's when things change, Now I'm too concerned with all the things I own, Blinded by all the pretty girls I see, I'm beginning to lose my integrity
Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over, And it seems as though the writings on the wall, Superstar you finally made it, But once your picture becomes tainted, It's what they call, The rise and fall
Who knows, if experience was the teacher that had the lyricist tell this story but whatever the inspiration was, it was probably one they'd seen lived. "

When the words of nations and tongues get lost in communication, music has the power to translate to every man. Katlin from Berlin, Germany emailed us to say, She's often had a difficult time trying to say what's on her mind to her classmates that speak a different language than she does, but in effort to enjoy their time together they share music and it helps them both keep trying.' I can completely understand her frustation. The challenge of getting through to others is a universal issue among humans. But I like her perspective, when you can't speak it out, let the music play it out, and until you cross the divide, keep going. Katlin sent us her song of inspiration today that she listens to when she's wondering if she will make it to the end of her journey. It's the classic 'Don't Give Up' with P.Gabriel and Kate Bush. In it they sing lyrics with insightful advice:
don't give up" you still have us don't give up we don't need much of anything don't give up 'cause somewhere there's a place where we belong rest your head you worry too much it's going to be alright when times get rough you can fall back on us don't give up please don't give up"
I'd agree that even when the divide seems too wide, this might be a song to go the distance...

Take a listen to the lyrics and tells us, what's the song that inspires you to cross the divide when there's a challenge to keep going?

Music and lyrics are designed to affect us. When fit together like hand and glove, the songs they create have been known to bring comfort to the spirit of man, while others ignite revolutions. If you are old enough to remember JB's personal anthem of Say it Loud, I'm black and I'm proud, you'll understand just want I mean when I say it's introduction to the world lit a flame and started a fire to help a people stand up with confidence. With the lyrics:
"Look a'here, some people say we got a lot of malice
Some say it's a lotta nerve
I say we won't quit moving  Til we get what we deserve We've been buked and we've been scourned We've been treated bad, talked about As just as sure as you're born But just as sure as it take  Two eyes to make a pair, huh
Brother, we can't quit until we get our share
who couldn't admit this was some real talk. I'd say if the song didn't move the problem, it definitely moved the people revolutionizing men of all kind. Take a listen for yourself and if something inside you doesn't want to move, you are missing out a big piece of some serious soul.

Man In the Mirror
Tumblr media
Music is powerful. From lullabys to soul, the composition of melodys, rhymes, and rhythms, put to lyrics has the ability to break through barriers and make change. It can both move us and speak to us, all while stirring up feelings in us. Whether it's the harmonic collaborations or testifying words, the power of a song can swing from bringing a room to complete calm, quieting a baby for rest, to that of elevating the the momentum of the whole body, helping a people rise to take a new look at the world. One song that continues to elevate conscious of man, was MJ's 'hit it square on' delivery in Man in the Mirror. In it Michael writes:
"I am gonna make a change for once in my life, It's gonna feel real good,  gonna make a difference, gonna make it right. As I turn up the collar on my my favorite winter coat, this wind is blowing my mind, I see your kids in the street without enough to eat, who am I to be blind pretending not to see their needs?".. and he goes on to sing " I've been a victim of a kind of selfish love, it's time that I realize, that there are some with no home, no nickel to loan, could it be really me pretending their not alone?
No one could ever say that MJ didn't think before he sang. When I first heard it, it raised my eyebrows and stirred up me the challenge to take a look myself.

Love should last forever! From the barren desert, across the torrid seas, and into the great tangleweeds of the jungle. There is no place L.O.V.E. can’t be found. It’s a song, sung in a language that every living being, understands. Even when all seems lost, we find a way to hold on even if just to the memoryof it. No matter how hard she tries, Edith of Czech Republic, says there are loves that have come and gone but that the memory of them will forever be in her heart. If it’s true love, even from a distance, you will always have it. She said those she's gotten lost in the jungle of love, the call of it's wild adventures can be heard even from memories away. Her song today is from the late Whitney Houston, “I will always Love you”.

Like finger prints, everyone has a heart. No two are alike but there are some characteristics they all have in common. They unique affect whatever they touch and leave the evidence behind. Did I mention that wherever they show up the world around them is forever changed? Whether you take a sander to the thumb or spit a harsh word to the core they both though vulnerable and resillient, are often taken for granted. Ever feel like someone you touch or who your heart beats for doesn't even notice? Ever love someone, and wish they knew just how much? From the coast of San Francisco, to the cliffs of Greece, to the Indian Ocean, the waves of love can make us weak. Too frequently pride gets in the way, and where one can’t see it, another bleeds it, still yet another waits till it sails off far in the distance before they get the courage to say it. But no matter what... the heart does what it does…beat on and on and the fingerprint...well it'll grow back again. Myran of Greece, says he has missed out on love on more than one occassion. While running wild on a search for what he realized later was already in his hand, he lost a love. He shares a tune from an artist of his native home, Nana Mouskouri, singing “A place in my heart”. When love goes down the rabbit hole, we can’t lose hope because the rabbit my still come up and sing! Don't hang the "no vacancy" sign too soon. Keep a place open for the lover who's bound to show up and want to check in!

It’s Fevrier..that’s French for February, the month of hearts and love. When words fail music speaks so we’ve decided to take a journey deep into the ‘musique d’amour’ to hear what hearts all over the world are singing. Miss Summer, an American traveling in the Southeast of France shared this pic with us today. She told us that strolling around the river banks among the French lovers and listening to their lovely language of romance seemed to stir something down in her heart. When she work up this morning she found herself looking into her own set of lover’s eyes and it was then that she pinched herself and knew it was going to be a ‘Lovely Day’. So today’s inspiration of ‘Whatcha Sangin’..; is a cut by artist Bill Withers, from his 1977 album Menagerie entitled “Lovely Day”.

Love is not a respector of persons or, as the above photo depicts,...birds. Yes, even the birds experience the love struck event of staring into each other’s eyes, crooning out luring melodies, and sharing some feel good moments. So here’s the question: “If even the birds can do it, what’s our problem”? Showing each other love seems to be a lost art. Not the case with these cuties, though. They were destined to be different among us. And if by chance any of us lost sight of just how beautiful the art of sharing love could be, these two put their heads together and came up with heartfully endearing way to let the whole kingdom of animals and mankind see what they share. A little reminder that lovers are still around, in fact, they are everywhere.  That’s exactly what was on the minds of our Santa Monica, Ca, USA friends today who sent us an oldie, but beauty. It’s a song from one of music history’s lovely songstresses, Natalie Cole, entitled, “Lovers”. Being a descendant of a father that spelled, it wrote it, and sang it to a perfect melody, it isn’t a surprise that she’d have her own song to sing about it too.  Yes, Lovers, they’re everywhere.
