Yelena throughout the film expresses that she is so extremely lonely and is searching for some purpose in her life and she abuses alcohol as a coping mech to a dangerous degree. Yelena’s also literally the one who told Bob to stuff down his bad feelings and to ignore them like this girl is NAWT doing good😭

Honestly what I love about this film so much. how both Bob and yelena are able to find comfort in eachother and are able to uplift eachother in their struggles. It’s not the average trope of “mentally ill character gets saved by the mentally stable character” they are both EXTREMELY imperfect and are dealing with their trauma together.

I’m really bad at wording my thoughts I’m so sorry but I hope this makes sense. Anyways fan fic writers GET TO WORK‼️‼️‼️😼

hey so while i’m genuinely glad at some of the conversations folks have been having about Bob’s addiction (see username) i think a lot people gloss over Yelena’s substance misuse (addiction?) as well.

it is shown and told to us in the film that Yelena binge drinks — most often alone — and that is such a scary thing. we quite literally see her blacked out in one of her shame rooms!

i just want to remind people that alcohol misuse & alcoholism is dangerous and can be fatal. it is not “addiction lite” by any means just because heavy drinking is incredibly normalized in a lot of cultures.

Bob Thunderbolt (and Sentry) on My Mind....

Yes this is Thunderbolts* related, I'm NOT sorry! MCU brain rot is heavy right now and I have never been happier. Also putting a quick disclaimer that I haven't had my proper rewatch of the movie yet because movie tickets are very expensive right now so I have to wait for it to go on streaming. Very very sad.... but with that out of the way I shall start my ramblings.

This was prompted by a thought of "What would Bob's reaction be to being in the Sentry suit again. I just imagine Valentina sends him a new Sentry suit, egging him along wanting him to go out in the public again as Sentry.

When referring back to the scene after he fights the Thunderbolts. He gains an extreme God complex. Just from the comparison to the original Avengers team, Sentry goes to the extreme. With this I think it would be safe to say that Bob himself absolutely craves being seen as a symbol of hope by public. After being treated like shit for years from his family to strangers on the streets, he has never been a valued member of society. The idea of being a super is so appealing to him. It's why he agrees to get the "operation" in the first place.

But Bob knows he can't be a superhero ever again. With the Sentry comes Void and he has seen the consequences of it all. Still he watches the Thunderbolts/ New Avengers members and can't help but feel so useless compared to them. Of course they don't mean any harm, but the comments from Alexi and John asking "when will Sentry make his next appearance?", those comments tend to linger in his head.

He still does the basic chores around the watchtower, he knows that doing even the most simple tasks can be of help to his friends. But in the grand scheme of things...? Even with their praises, he knows how hollow they can come out as, they're literally super heroes.

Bob is just absolutely GUTTED knowing that he could never just be the sentry. Maybe he could use his powers short lived, for tiny things. But to be an actual hero would be putting the entire world at risk of the void. He probably goes around the city doing minor things like picking up litter off the streets. Helping the homeless community. Volunteering where he can. Maybe he works a few customer service jobs just so he can stay public facing and make some sort of impact on locals.

But there are days where he knows he can do more. He debates on putting that costume on and being the hero he know he can be. But then the void trickles in. Threatening to destroy any good that he is capable of...

So maybe he puts the suit on. Just for a minute. It wouldn't hurt! Just to feel powerful again even if it was going to be for just a few minuets. He can imagine what he could've been. The lives he could've saved if he could learn to contain the void. The wars he could end if being sentry didn't actually hurt his mental state. Just for a minute he pretends that there's a universe where he is just a Superman and can actually make a difference, rather than just doing the dishes.

Sorry that this is kinda incoherent and a little all over the place. I tried my best to make this make sense but it's still a little crazy. Also if you have any input on this topic please let me know. I want other peoples opinions soooo bad.
