Peggy Carter was a positive role model for kids and took on a life of her own, which was wonderful, but it existed in a particular genre. I was yearning to expand my range. Howards End’s Margaret Schlegel was all-consuming and a bit of a career-changer for me. Being the leading actress also comes with a responsibility to help create a positive atmosphere on set, so I bet myself that we could all do strong work and still have a giggle. To forge friendships and play pranks, but still deliver on “action!” That’s the kind of working life I want.

I think I was lucky in that I wasn’t one of those girls who are told they are pretty the whole time. I never got that. Nor did I ever obsess about my looks as a teenager.

So, my sister and Robbie were never able to have the time together they both so longed for… and deserved. Which ever since I’ve… ever since I’ve always felt I prevented. But what sense of hope or satisfaction could a reader derive from an ending like that? So in the book, I wanted to give Robbie and Cecilia what they lost out on in life. I’d like to think this isn’t weakness or… evasion… but a final act of kindness. I gave them their happiness.

It’s like I’m reading a book, and it’s a book I deeply love. But I’m reading it slowly now. So the words are really far apart and the spaces between the words are almost infinite. I can still feel you and the words of our story…but it’s in this endless space between the words that I’m finding myself now. It’s a place that’s not of the physical world. It’s where everything else is that I didn’t even know existed. I love you so much. But this is where I am now. And this is who I am now. And I need you to let me go. As much as I want to, I can’t live in your book anymore.
