you’re twelve years old and you break your father’s hand when he hi-fives you. the first thing you learn is that the smallest slip up can hurt the people you love. your (foster) father smiles and says it’s okay (it’s not).
your parents are not your parents. the idyllic farming community that raised you is not your home. you’re a You-Don’t-Know-What from You-Don’t-Know-Where. all you know for sure is that you’re not human.
so you can fly. so you can run fast. so you can lift cars. so what? why do you even have this power? what should you even do with it?
your father said do what’s right, so that’s what you do.
you stop a robbery. the man’s knife shatters against your skin and you see the same fear in his eyes that you saw in your father’s when you were twelve. you catch a falling child before it can hit the water. his mother looks at you like you’re a god.
they love you, even though they don’t know you. the most powerful man in the world hates you because they love you.
you wanted to write when you were younger. you wanted to tell stories that needed to be told. you never wanted to star in them. you never wanted super-geniuses and demi-goddesses looking to you for advice; like you have any idea how to handle threats to reality itself. you’re just a kid from smallville who’s trying to do the best he can with what he’s given.
you try and get back to the farm as much as you can. it feels normal being back among the open wheat; where everyone smiles because you’re that nice Kent boy.
when you were younger, you pretended to fly, hands out to your sides and running through the tall grass by the river. it doesn’t look as beautiful from on high; the details get lost and the colors of your hometown blur together from a mile above ground.
the problem with flying is that it puts you so far above people you care about

Come on. You love this song and you know it. Yeah, and if I ever hear it again I'm gonna kill myself.

Something I'm not sure I'll ever understand about fandom, especially comic book fandom, debates, is debates like the 'is Bruce Wayne a good parent' debate. And I am genuinely looking for an explanation and/or another perspective here.
Because the answer, to me, at least, is yes and no specifically because he is a fictional character.
Because, to me (I wish to specify that this is all my opinion and you could think way differently about this), characters do not essentially have to do what is best, they have to do what is interesting, and because comics are so wide and are contributed to by so many different writers, the idea of what is interesting can vary wildly.
So, yes, Bruce Wayne is a good parent in the comics where that is the most interesting choice. And no, he is not a good parent in the comics where that is the most interesting choice.
The fun thing about comics to me has always been being able to look at the wide array of events and characterizations and just picking what I like the most out of it. And what I like the most changes based on the context of the story surrounding them.
I see a lot of posts that are like "I don't like X character because they did this action in this specific comic" which is completely fair, but also I've always been of the opinion that comic lore is so wide (and, let's be honest, inconsistent) that you can hold multiple true things about a character at once because they are fictional. I just always find it weird when posts come across, again specifically to me, as blaming the character for the choices made for one story by one writer (or even a series of writers), when a bunch of other writers have written said character in a different way, and you can just decide which way you like best, and which way you like best can 100% change with the situation that character is in.
I hope I'm making sense? And maybe I'm completely making this up, who knows

The legacies people leave behind in you.
My handwriting is the same style as the teacher’s who I had when I was nine. I’m now twenty one and he’s been dead eight years but my i’s still curve the same way as his.
I watched the last season of a TV show recently but I started it with my friend in high school. We haven’t spoken in four years.
I make lentil soup through the recipe my gran gave me.
I curl my hair the way my best friend showed me.
I learned to love books because my father loved them first.
How terrifying, how excruciatingly painful to acknowledge this. That I am a jigsaw puzzle of everyone I have briefly known and loved. I carry them on with me even if I don’t know it. How beautiful.

To make the point to normies that like, George Bush and a bunch of other mainstream political figures in recent US history have been war criminals, no, not like in some radical left wing activist speak way like just in a centrist liberal I think the UN charter means something straight up these guys are literally actual war criminals, no, I know, everyone calls everyone war criminals and fascists these days I get it I get it your least favorite politician is like hitler but no not like that like literally, these guys are literally war criminals who committed war crimes in a literal, actual, they actually did it not a theoretical what if it happened here it could happen here way no not like that, like, just regular, actually, just straight up, I cannot express to you how moderate and not radical and just straight up literal regular this opinion is way, war criminals who did actual specific major war crimes that killed a bunch of people and they should probably be in prison, really, really I promise, these guys should be actually in prison probably

Crazy watching Superman 2025 as a Cincinnati-an. What do you mean museum center from my childhood is the Hall of Justice???? And the majority of the population just doesn’t know. They don’t even know people at the theater are clapping for it and that so many kids get to literally go visit it every year I feel insane.

i like the phrases "it's not for me," "it's not my thing," and "i'm not the target audience" because they're the most concise way to express "this thing that you enjoy has merits but idgaf about it" without being aggressive
