By quite a few metrics of review, Wizards (1977) is not the best movie in the world. While its creation is impressive given its tiny crew, and I really liked the media mixing (in concept), I think there's something to be desired in the script and (most) character design* that was hard to ignore. (Not to mention racialization of certain characters in a way that is super weird.)
HOWEVER. There are two** things that I will cherish. Firstly, please listen to exhibit (a), a real line in this movie. The line delivery for most of these characters is mid at best. In this one instance, it is perfect. "SLUT!" will ring rent-free through my mind forever.
Secondly, (spoilers for this 48-y/o movie) bringing a gun to a magic fight is the correct option and I will never tire of that scene. Never entertain nazi wizards by engaging in battle with them – they don't deserve such an honor. Just get 'em gone!
*except for Peace, whose design is literally peak and they knew it. And the "horses."
**four, actually. The music, when it exists, goes hard. Also, the background art is always incredible.
