Accidentally fast reblogged this lol but it stands true so I'll allow it
PSA: If you're going to leave constructive criticism on a fic, ask first!
Alot of writers appreciate constructive criticism, but some don't
If you want to give constructive criticism, maybe list a few things you liked about the fic, and then say "Do you accept constructive criticism?"
If they say yes, politely give them said constructive criticism
If they say no, don't!
It's just a polite gesture that will only take a little extra bit of time♡
(And if you just don't like a fic, don't comment saying you don't like it, just read a different one and leave the author alone!)

I loved sonic frontiers but I also have too much free time so I have a few improvements in mind for a sequel. At least, that's what I thought when I started this list lol. Here are my ideas for sonic frontiers 2.
Damage starts off low- the more diverse your attacks are the higher the damage is.
Attacks have 3 traits:
Block breaker
Stun
Heavy damage
Enemies can be immune to specific abilities depending on their theme.
Enemies have a stun meter: use stun trait attacks to lower it, low enough will put enemies in a temporary trance. The higher the meter, the higher the chance that you will be parried.
The chance of being parried is temporarily lowered after an enemy attacks.
Block breaker attacks have a higher chance of being parried, best used after dodging.
Sonics stats lowered from 99 to 40. Now takes 6 seeds to lever up rather than 5.
Obvious changes:
•Momentum exists
•Elder koco
•Reduced rebounce for homing attack in
cyberspace
•Fix pop-in
•More difficult puzzles
Rather than bobbing up and down on uneven ground, sonic has a new running animation that shows him jumping over the dips in the ground so it looks natural (gameplay is not changed during this animation).
Super boost can be used as a block breaker (still doesn't deal damage).
Abilities in the skill tree can be upgraded further after being bought.
3 different areas abilities can be upgraded in:
1. Damage
2. Speed/Duration
3. Damage penalty
Can choose which area to upgrade in and revert it at any point (like how you can transfer speed into ring capacity and Vise versa).
Can upgrade damage, stun chance and speed 10 times for each ability, but damage penalty only 5 times.
Final enemy in a group of standard enemies always drops useful items.
Cyloop is a result of harnessing cyber-energy so it isnt in this game.
Ring capacity starts at 50, goes up by 5 every upgrade.
Enemies also have block breaker and stun attacks. Block breakers will break through your parry, whilst stun will stun you unless you dodge or parry (parrying acts as a block in this instance).
The more you use the parry, the more likely the enemy you are fighting is to use block breakers and stuns.
Boost doesn't cancel when you jump.
Phantom rush is there, but is activated through combo diversity rather than combo size.
Abilities: non skill-tree (xbox buttons so it's easier to type)
•[X]- regular attack
•[B]- stomp attack
•[A]- launch attack
•[LB/RB]- Perfect dodge (leaves enemy open temporarily.)
Skill tree abilities:
Heavy damage-
•[Hold X]- Sonic bolt (sonic throws a lightning bolt at the enemy)
•[Hold RT--> X]- Boost dash (sonic charges up electric power, then uses it to boost into enemies.)
•[RT--> X]- Tornado smash (sonic deals multiple strong hits whilst circling an enemy, then creates a tornado to launch them into the air.)-
•[Hold A]- Spin slash (sonic rolls around on the enemy, then slams them into the ground.)
Block breaker-
•[(LB/RB)+(X/A/B)]- Heavy attacks (more powerful attacks that will go in different directions depending on buttons presses: A launches up, B slams down, X knocks enemies to the side.)
•[LT]- Slingshot (sonic jumps backwards, and propels himself forward into the enemy and kicks it.)
•[LB/RB--> A]- Counter slash (sonic dodges into a spin-dash, which breaks the enemies block.)
•[RT--> B]- Trail break (Sonic dodges under the enemy and leaves a trail which deals damage as it catches up to sonic.)
Stun-
•[LB/RB--> X]- ghost rush (a ghost-like version of sonic appears and distracts the enemy by punching it)
•[RT--> A]- Stun sphere (sonic creates energy spheres to jump on towards an enemy, dodges behind the enemy and holds it in place as the spheres deal damage.)
•[Hold B]- Stun kick (sonic spins around in the air and then kicks his enemy like in the grand slam animation against the knight, except with electricity.)
•[LT+RT] Spin wheel (sonic creates a 2d wheel shape by spin-dashing on the spot, then launches the energy-wheel at the enemy.)
Pressing [B] will make sonic roll rather than slide, and gwen can drift in this state.
Combos are ranked like in the hedgehog-may-cry mod of the actual frontiers, and the higher the combo rank, the more of the 'combo meter' is filled. When the combo meter is full, sonic can do a finisher attack which functions like the finishers in the insomniac spider-man games.
Standard enemies have two traits: a defensive trait and an offensive trait.
The defensive trait is a resistance to a type of attack.
There are 5 variants of this trait and they are differentiated via the colour of the enemy-
• Normal- no resistance
• Heavy resistance- heavy attacks act as regular attacks when inflicting onto an enemy with this trait.
• Stun resistance- Stun attacks act as regular attacks when inflicting onto an enemy with this trait.
• Block resistance- Block-breaker attacks act as regular attacks when inflicting onto an enemy with this trait.
• Finisher trait- Enemies with this trait don't take damage, can only be beaten using finishers
The block resistance and finisher trait are more rare and only on higher difficulties.
Offensive traits affect the enemies attacks depending on the variant. There are 5 of these variants and they are differentiated by the shape of the enemy:
• Normal- no change.
• Heavy attack- enemies always take away all of your rings, and rings have a 50% chance of disappearing when you are hit by an enemy with this trait.
• Stun attack- enemy attacks have a 50% chance of stunning sonic, allowing for an extra hit.
• Block-breaking attack- parry does not work on these enemies
• Life drain (idk the term lol)- being attacked by enemies with this trait won't knock ring out of you, it will drain them over time. The draining only stops when he enemy is defeated and gets faster the more times it hits you.
There are more ideas but I cant write then yet as they are too under-developed.

Why did no one tell me that listening to the sonic frontiers vocal themes at 12:30 at night after spending hours contemplating career choices that will ultimately decide my entire future would invoke a sort of weird feeling?
Like guys, come on this is important information.

Writing prompt: adventure movie where the protagonist leads the crew through the ancient tomb to the treasure, not with his advanced treasure hunting skills, but purely on his awareness of movie tropes.
"Everybody shut the fuck up the camera just zoomed into my leg."
"If I fight this guy, the scene's primary conflict will be about surviving him rather than finding the key."

I have this dinosaur encyclopedia which got worn down in the middle, so whenever I open it, it turns to the middle page which contains minmi. This is the story of how minmi became my second favourite dinosaur.
Minmi
Tumblr media
Minmi is a genus of small herbivorous ankylosaurian dinosaur that lived during the early Cretaceous Period of Australia. Its length is estimated at 3 metres, its weight at 300 kilograms. For an ankylosaurian, Minmi had long limbs, perhaps used to quickly search cover under brushes when threatened by large predators which might have been able to flip the small animal on its back. Unlike other ankylosaurians, Minmi had horizontally oriented plates of bones that ran along the sides of its vertebrae, hence its specific name, paravertebra.

To be clear, in writing, lines are allowed to be fricking stupid, if it's for a specific effect. For example, a few lines from a wip of mine:
•"I do not." I said, as I did not.
•"I'm a dumbass." I discovered.
•"Okay. I am down to fall out of the tree."
•(only one thumb to be precise, but 'put my thumb up' is just strange to read,)
•No I promise this isnt just shitty dialogue, I had no idea what to say.
All in the first chapter. And it sort of works, because of the vibes that the story gives off. It let's the audience know that despite being a potential very dark situation, this is not going to be one of those depressing 'everyone dies and it sucks' stories.

Yes, words.
adding characterization to a story you've already written
Tumblr media
How? + What?
These are the questions to take with you when going through a draft to add characterization.
Your character will already be doing and saying things in a set situation. You got the most arduous part of writing down-- the story is there.
So now you're going to take that and ask WHAT? or HOW? with certain details. An interrogation of the story to dig more out when a scene might feel empty or the characterization feels off.
Let's say you want a scene where the character cries in a car.
Anyone can cry in a car.
But only YOUR character is going to cry in the parking lot of their old high school, so angry about their '96 Toyota's heater being broken that they slam their fist against the vents.
HOW? is about defining present behavior.
Take the situation your character is put in.
How do they react, how do they make decisions, how do they set and complete goals, how do they approach emerging emotions, how do they think about or observe the situation?
How do they deal with something like this based on personality, values, and their current life?
All of these things are informed by larger, earlier forces but "how?" is about the state of things that fluctuate.
With the car, present behavior is their anger at the broken heater and the decision to physically lash out. The fluctuation of personality, values, and current life converge in a way that is unique to this moment and this reaction.
WHAT? is about specificity with already-established reality.
Look at every variable in the scene, like the car or the location. They are established. The character had the car before the passage began. This was their old high school before the passage began. Making these variables specific tells us about the character's world outside this scene. What car? What significance of the location? Those are exclusive to the character and existed before the scene. At this point, they are out of the control of the character and therefore do not fluctuate.
An old Toyota with a broken heater and the parking lot of their former high school give us background information.
The main idea of this technique is to push yourself as a writer. Specificity, definition, and characterization enrich the narrative and add authentic complexity to your world.

As always, take what you found useful and forget the rest! Happy writing.
[call it good] writing

A lot of people say how much they like making their characters unhappy. I just don't get that. Literally the main conflict between the protagonist and antagonist in one of my fics is that they want to let the other get their way. The antagonist made a promise to someone who died which would end in death and and stuff and the protagonist is like, ok that sucks and all but mood. And he tries to talk the antagonist out of it, but they don't fight a single time until the end despite meeting several times because they are both chill with each other and at the end the protagonist wins and the antagonist is supposed to be locked up in jail but the protagonist who is guarding him just let's him run away before the trial and now I'm just talking about my ideas shit

Ima start using this as a scale. What for, you ask? Idk lol.
Comparing the rotations of objects in the Solar System. Just look at them lol.✨🪐
To everyone that's confused, the planet Venus rotates very very slowly, with a single revolution taking about 243 Earth days, and Mercury rotates slowly, but not as slow as Venus.

Imagine this but like, with talking and you don't take a break it just happens.
When you leave your writing in the middle of a sentence, come back to it and you're like "Where the FUCK was I going with this?"
