one half of a sketchbook entry
I was on my living room floor staring out onto the horizon letting memory and grief overwhelm me. I grabbed my pencil and started writing what came to me. It’s unclear and hazy, and it’s bad and noisy. Its what I’d been grieving and have grieved; that moment in time where everything was as it used to be. That normal which calms the nerves but does not settle the soul or the heart.
And now I know: I’ve done stupid things to hold love… To feel it in my fingers, to know I can have it. I’ve done worse things to let others know my pain… Longing for someone to see me to understand my needs. Giving back what pain I had been doled out.
I’m finally starting to see both sides… I’m finally starting to realize. I’d never learned what it means to create home from within me.
