"I don't care about violence in jails because the prisoners deserve it"

"It should be required to take literacy and numeracy tests before you vote"

"The death sentence is justifiable in some cases"

THESE AREN'T LEFTIST TAKES GUYS. Being a leftist means advocating for the abolishment of prisons and policing, not cheering on inmate abuse or death penalties. Acting as though a reaction to historical and systemic oppression is anywhere near equivalent to the systems that created and uphold that oppression is not a radical take!!

You may think you're being progressive by saying literacy tests for voting should be a thing, because "Republicans are statistically less educated than Democrats." But you are just repeating ideas that were historically used to exclude poor people and communities of colour.

You aren't cool for parroting the same punitive, ableist, and carceral logic the state thrives on and rebranding it as some radical take. Remember that you should aim to look past the propaganda that tells you these takes are progressive and actually learn about the injustices in the system.
