I had to after last episode 🫡
Constructive feedback is always appreciated :D
Summary:
North breaks down after he talked to Dean at the bar. He doesn't know what to do anymore, and even though Dean told him to just talk to Sonic he doesn't feel like it's wanted. Alan helps. So does Jeff. Maybe he doesn't have to try and read Sonic's mind after all.
---------- Loosely inspired by the song "Read My Mind" - The Killers

North being afraid of ruining Sonic's future by confessing to him is going to ruin me. Because he loves Sonic so much and he's been watching how he acts and what he says and he's slowly convinced himself that he's not good enough for Sonic, that he is less than Sonic, this chaotic duo that used to complete each other has left North feeling like he's too little for Sonic and Sonic, apparently, waiting for something that he's said he given up on and wants to leave behind.
Sonic says North is indecisive but Sonic's the one who said he was going to move on and that they had different dreams and the problem is that North, in trying to find his place again at Sonic's side, is doing exactly what Sonic accused him of doing... but it's being done specifically out of love for Sonic and that's what hurts the most.

I was thinking about Sonic telling Alan that him and North kepts mossing eachother
And how tragic they are
Cause what if North fell first, but they are so young, it feels more like a puppy crush. He didn’t really think much about it, he just saw Sonic and decided “this is the one i want to spend the rest of my life with”
But he doesn’t fully grasp the extend of his feelings yet, falling into such an easy friendship and they are so close that he sometimes forgets how much he wants to kiss him.
And they stay friends, but they are so close.
Sonic doesn’t really think friends should act the way they do, wouldn’t mind taking it further. But North is more just making jokes about it, so Sonic gets over it. North still keeps him closer than anyone and thats enough for him.
But then Tony happens.
Sonic is in danger and something snaps inside of North. Faced with the very real possibility that Sonic could seriously be hurt, he realizes that he could not live with himself if something were to happen to Sonic. After all he was the one who mattered most to him.
So he starts testing the waters, making jokes, hinting at something deeper.
Meanwhile Sonic is faced with protective North, feeling a rush of love and affection for him.
And while North is trying to get closer in his own way, knowing he’s not as good as good with his words like Sonic is, Sonic feels like something is dangled in front of him that he can never have.
So he leaves, trying to move on.
And North misses him, loves him so much.
But Sonic isn’t there anymore.
And when he comes back, something has shifted.
So North decides to finally take a leap, trying to take the next step.
Only to hear Sonic wants to move on.

KimKenta IKEA-date
A friend and I were talking about them having a little ikea date, so this is the outcome of it Hope y'all enjoy
Also crossposted on AO3:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/66579760
(I added pictures of the "relevant" stuff they bought at the bottom in order of mention, if anyone wants to see what I had in mind)
Ever since Kenta started living with Kim, life was confusing. On the one hand they were still trying to work out what was going on with Tony, on the other, Kim had been there for him like no one was before. Kenta didn’t know what to do with that. With the feelings bubbling up inside of him, threatening to spill over. It’s been a while since his heart skipped a beat when someone smiled at him softly, the corners of his lips from turning up when someone placed a blanket on him, thinking Kenta had fallen asleep, since he felt like he was truly safe. It has taken him a little to actually accept that, to sleep through the whole night without clutching his knife under his pillow. But it has been getting easier. He knew, however, that good things couldn’t last. Especially not when Kim stepped towards him with that look on his face, the look that would make Kenta regret ever agreeing to staying there. He was proven right immediately. “Absolutely not.” Kim let out a small sigh. “We don’t have to get much, but I really think getting you a bookshelf would be a good start!” He had the nerve to smile warmly. “You know I don’t mind having them laying around, but wouldn't it be nicer to have them all in one place, instead of stacked up next to your bed?” Kenta narrowed his eyes, deep down he knew he wouldn’t have been able to say no to Kim anyways, but that he was using his most valuable possessions was foul. Those books meant everything to him. A while ago Kim had gifted him one, wanting to help him feel a little less on edge, when he was just sitting around in the apartment, but eventually Kenta started reading more and more, so his collection started growing. They were becoming his most prized possessions. “Traitor.” Kim just grinned smugly. “Fine… but we aren’t getting anything else!” Kim’s eyes lightened up, immediately nodding. Kenta wanted to kiss hit him. He didn’t.
Sitting in the car he could feel the nerves creeping up on him. He usually didn’t mind going out that much, he just never really cared much for creating his own space. Wasn’t allowed to care. And now he was in a space where everything just screamed KIM to him, in big bold letters, spelled out in every little trinket he’s keeping on his shelves. So that Kim wanted him to add his own things did something to Kenta’s heart that he did not feel ready to fully explore. Kim had already helped him so much, to feel comfortable, to feel at home,  but Kenta still feared he wouldn’t fit in. That he wouldn’t be able to cater to his own space like Kim did, or North even. He just didn’t want Kim to feel like this was a waste of time. They should have just ordered a shelf and called it a day, it would have saved them time and disappointment. Instead they were parked in front of a massive blue and yellow building, four giant letters above the entrance. “Are you okay?,” Kim leaned over to him, laying a hand on Kenta’s knee. Kenta swallowed, but gave him a small nod. “Let’s go.” He took a deep breath and stepped out of the car.
Once they were inside Kenta felt a little overwhelmed. There seemed to be two floors, full of small display rooms, showcasing furniture and decorations, each room feeling personalized.
He slowly turned to Kim. “…You lied.” Kim shook his head, a grin on his face. “I didn't. If that’s really all you want, we will only buy the bookshelf. But since we are already here, we might as well walk around?” Fully ignoring Kenta’s glare, Kim grabbed his wrist and started pulling him towards the aisle. Kenta felt the warmth of his touch spread through him and suddenly it didn’t seem so bad anymore and when they reached the sofas and Kim immediately pushed him to sit down and test how comfy they were, he couldn’t really fight off the smile anymore. By the time they made it to the bedroom section, Kenta was actually starting to have fun. He started looking around the rooms with a little more curiosity, interested in seeing how the company thought people should decorate their bedrooms. But he hated it. While everything was selected carefully and with purpose, it didn’t feel as personal as Kim’s whole apartment felt. Kenta let his fingers trail over a small vase, with a silly little face, trying to imagine it in his room. He barely even noticed Kim stepping  behind him, head right next to his own. “Found something you like?” Kenta didn’t flinch, but needed a moment to recollect himself anyways. “It looks silly, doesn’t it?” “It does,” Kim chuckled. “Do you want to get it?” “I don’t have anything to put in it…” Kim patted his shoulder. “Luckily for us they also sell plants. Fake ones too, if you don’t feel like looking after it.” Kenta turned his head a little. Kim sometimes still surprised him. How he seemed to just be so in tune with Kenta, that Kenta didn’t even have to tell him. When Kim kept walking, Kenta tried not to miss his closeness too much. “They should have them around here, so we can take them with us.” Kenta quickly followed him. Kim seemed to come to this place often, if he knew his way around so well. Just like he predicted, the vases were kept just outside of the showroom. “They even have a white one! Want to get both..? Or just one of them?” Kenta thought about it for a moment, still trying to imagine them in his room. But everytime he tried, he ended up with the vision of both colours standing on Kim’s dining table, a single flower in each of them. Hesitantly he reached for both of them. “Let’s get both…” Kim immediately opened up the yellow bag, where they could collect the things they wanted to buy. Kenta carefully placed the two vases into it. From the corner of his eyes he could see Kim just observing him, but different from what he had learned to know before, he just felt more comfortable in his decision, that Kim approved of his choice. They looked around a little more, but didn’t really find much else. Kenta did get stuck on one of the bookshelves though, so Kim had him get one of the strange little papers and pencils and write down the numbers to find the shelf in the warehouse. A strange concept indeed.
When they entered the section for children, Kenta’s eyes immediately drifted to the plush animals. Back in the house with Tony, only the youngest children were allowed to still keep them, once they were deemed too old they got taken away. They also were never given to them. The children having brought it from their previous families. Kenta never had one. He was ready for Kim to just pull him along, heading to the next sections. Instead Kim left his side to rush over to the animals, picking up a gray cat. “Kenta! Look! It looks just like you!” He grinned brightly. Kenta pretended to roll his eyes and joined Kim’s side. “It does not…You’re imagining things.” Kim furrowed his brows and lifted the cat right next to Kenta’s face, observing closely. “This really is Kenta Jr.” “You’re being ridiculous.” Kenta shook his head, bangs falling into his face, a small grin on his lips. “You just can’t recognize your son. I hope you know we’re taking him with us!” Without waiting for an answer Kenta Jr. was dropped into the bag. Kenta’s noise of protest was overheard. Suddenly, Kenta noticed something in the corner of his eye. Slowly he walked over to it and picked it up. For a second he was surprised by the softness, staring at it for a moment. He couldn’t help giving it a small squeeze, just wanting to know what it felt like, before he turned to Kim. “Can we at least get Kim Jr. as a friend for him?” He lifted the little Husky plush he had found. The way Kim’s face lit up could rival the sun, Kenta’s heart skipped a beat. “Of course! We can’t have Kenta Jr. be all on his own?” Kim Jr. was added to their bag.
After walking through the children’s section they had to head downstairs to the market hall, where apparently all the other smaller things were kept. Kenta didn’t even try to argue with Kim, who tried to convince him to pick out a new tableware set for the kitchen, or new towels, or new pillowcases for the throw pillows on Kim’s couch. Kenta did stand his ground though when Kim came around the corner with a massive picture in a frame. “No.” “Your room could use the colour!” Kenta shook his head. “Not that much.” He knew Kim wasn’t too serious either, but he still didn’t like having a picture this big on his wall. If he learned anything in the last few hours, it was that deep down he really wanted to be able to decorate a space he could call his own. But a generic image, anyone could have on their wall, reminded him too much of the stuff Tony put in their rooms. If pictures were going to go up on his wall, he wanted it to be something that mattered. That he could look at and remind himself of the life he had now. Something to remind him, when he was waking up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat from another nightmare, but unable to get himself to get up and wake Kim, that he had people who cared for him now. Kenta wanted the first picture to go up to be the picture Charlie had taken a couple weeks ago. It showed Kenta talking to Alan, posture as straight as always, but eyes crinkling in the corner as he was grinning at something the other had said. Alan, who had a hand on Kentas back, reassuringly,  also grinning. Next to them was Kim, eyes on Kenta, his smile barely noticeable. But Kenta spent so much time just looking at it, that he noticed. So he brushed Kim’s attempt of brightening up his room off, and instead went to look for a picture frame, ignoring Kim’s protests at being ignored.
“Can we go somewhere to print out photos?” Kenta asked, dumping multiple picture frames into their bag. “Of course we can.” Kim smiled gently and didn’t press further. Again Kenta just felt incredibly understood by Kim. How he always knew when to push, and when to recognize Kenta taking steps on his own, in his own time. And Kim let him.By the time they actually got home most of the day had already passed, but Kenta still wanted to put everything they bought in the right place. Kim helped him assemble the bookshelf and sort everything in. He even let him put the vases onto the table with their flowers. The last thing left was putting the pictures they printed out into the frames and on the wall. Kenta hadn’t shown Kim what he printed out, so when Kim entered his room, Kim Jr. and Kenta Jr. in hand, Kenta bit his lip. Kim’s eyes immediately drifted to the wall. The first photo was the one with Alan, like he planned The second one was a picture of Jeff and Charlie at the garage, hunched over the laptop. The third showed  North and Sonic, curled together on the couch, Alan in the doorframe, his own phone in hand to take a picture of them. The fourth one was a selfie Kim took of himself and Kenta a couple days after Kenta moved in. He had sent that picture to Pete back then, wanting to show him they were doing alright. But the last one was Kenta’s favorite. It was a photo of Kim standing at the counter, pouring himself and Kenta two cups of their favorite tea. The early morning sun softening his features. Kenta had taken it a day ago, unbeknownst to Kim, who now saw it for the first time. Kenta felt a little anxious awaiting Kim’s reaction. But he knew it would be fine no matter what. Kim’s expression just softened even more after seeing the pictures, his hand gently slipping into Kenta’s, giving it a gentle squeeze. “I really want to kiss you right now,” he said, still looking at the pictures on the wall. “What’s stopping you?” Kim did not let Kenta finish speaking.
When North heard about their trip a couple days later he gifted them matching shark towels to “celebrate them finally getting together”.

Having thoughts about North and Sonic
how touchy they were with each other in season 1
And how North keeps reaching out, but stops himself, noticing sonic pulling away every time
When Sonic was in France, maybe North tried to keep going like before, he still heard from Sonic from time to time, pretending he didnt miss how easy it was to touch him before, throwing an arm around his shoulder, knocking their heads together — pretending like he wasn’t waking up in the middle of the night, arms wrapped tightly around his pillow, his body craving for touch
and now Sonic is back, but seems so out of reach still, it could be so easy to pull him close, wrap his arms around him and just not let go, and just cant
so unsure of what hes supposed to do, since Sonic seemingly has given up on him, on them
and North is stuck between what he wants, and what he thinks is expected of him

I agree that Babe’s motivations were understandable. 100%. He was being pestered and harassed and goaded and he wanted it to stop. He didn’t go about it well but I do see what he was trying to achieve. I also think that Babe does feel lonely whenever Charlie’s not around or he’s spending too long in the lab. Even if Charlie didn’t mean for Babe to feel lonely, if that’s how Babe feels then that’s how Babe feels. It’s completely valid. That said,
somehow I disagree with the idea that just because Charlie lied to him a lot and hid a lot of things from him in season 1 that makes it okay for Babe to lie to him and hide things for him now too. It sits wrong with me to make it a tit for tat thing. Not only out of principle– I don’t believe relationships should work like that because no one will ever move forward if that were the case– but also because of the context and circumstances of the last season. Ultimately, Charlie has just as much right to be upset and hurt as Babe does. Just because he did what he did the previous year doesn’t mean it’s ‘Babe’s turn’ or that ‘Charlie deserves it’ now.
Charlie was wrong to do that before, even if I understand where he was coming from. Babe was wrong to do this now, even if I understand where he was coming from.

Are we gonna get Kim seeing Kentas scars at some point?
Im thinking
the endless possibilities
the quiet pain on Kims face, not wanting Kenta to pull away, not wanting to overwhelm him with his own rage against the man who did this to him
Kim who looks up salves that are supposed to help with scarring, asking Kenta if he wants that
Kenta being unsure, the scars a reminder of his past, in a way a reminder of the life he has known, a reminder of his place in the world
But then also Kenta slowly opening up, letting Kim touch, take care of him
Letting him show that he does deserve more than this
That he deserves to live his life as he chooses
That he deserves to be loved no matter what
in the end Kim only takes care of the worst ones, he presses gentle kisses to every single scar, gently tracing then, eyes looking up in Kenta with nothing but love and adoration
And Kenta?
He has never felt so exposed and seen, while feeling absolutely safe at the same time
so he just melts in Kims arms

Kim so excited that Kenta is interested enough in him to ask questions, and Kenta's little disappointed mouth shrug when Kim talks about leaving is everything to me.
I know he deflected his disappointment by invoking his distrust of Chris, but the "I think I should be more careful" that invites Kim to have an opinion on (and a part in) his safety is such a big emotional step for him.
Kim's teasing about jealousy is another redirect, but it's also challenging Kenta to consider his own feelings and motivations (and if the answer to that question is one that Kim happens to be extra interested in, that's just a bonus, right?!)
Anyways, I love them.

NorthSonic short #1
this was written after the first two episodes and has been sitting in my drafts ever since, has also not been finished but I wanna put it somewhere at least
Its North centered, and more introspection Side note: this was written right after episode 3 dropped, so with no knowledge on how they progress after that point
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
North huffed in complaint as Alan gave Jeff a pass. „Double standards, huh?“, he exclaimed. He wasn‘t really upset. It just sometimes got to him. Especially on a day like this. It has been a year since Way got killed, 10 months since Sonic left for France, leaving North to fend for himself.
Surrounded by couples he didn‘t always know what to do with himself. While they tried to include him, Alan especially, he still felt the distinct lack of Sonic next to himself, his heart aching with words unsaid before he left.
In the beginning there were still messages, pictures of sights, the first project, sneaky selfies from the back of an unfamiliar classroom, North felt hopeful that maybe he hadn‘t missed his chance yet. That when Sonic came back he could tell him everything. Tell him how his heart was beating faster whenever they were together, how he was ready to throw his life away as long as it meant Sonic would keep going, how sometimes all he wanted was to kiss him until they forgot where they were, how he felt that home wasn‘t really a place anymore. But then the messages became less, there were only the occasional updates in the X-Hunter group chat but nothing for him anymore. Sonic said he was busy, and North was happy things seemed to be going well for him. But he missed him, couldn‘t wait for him to get back, whenever that might be.
And especially on a day like this, he just wished to have Sonic by his side again, even if it was as his best friend. Instead he had to deal with Alan and Jeff, who could barely last a minute before making heart eyes at each other again.
North let out a small sigh as Alan immediately jumped to Jeff‘s defense again. He was so distracted that at first he didn‘t notice the person rushing past him until they flung their arms around Alan. „Alan! I missed you! This new garage…it’s actually pretty nice.“
North felt his heart skip a beat. It couldn‘t be…
As he carefully raised his head his eyes fell onto the familiar black hair that he hadn‘t seen in almost a year. North couldn’t keep the smile off his face as he watched Sonic tease Jeff, barely focusing on what was said.
He eagerly waited for Sonic to turn around, wanting to pull him in his arms and never let go, burying himself in his scent until he didn‘t know where his own began and Sonics ended. He bit his lip trying to hide the small grin.
Finally he had his other half back.
His heartbeat was only going up as Sonic turned around to him at last, crossing the distance.
„Hey, man.“
North felt like a bucket of cold water was dumped over his head. While he wasn‘t necessarily expecting Sonic to react the same way he always daydreamed about, he felt like something was very off. Like there was a distance between them, that wasn’t even there when Sonic first landed in Paris. “Didn’t think you’d actually come back. You’ve been off the radar for a while.” North regretted those words the second they left his mouth. He barely even registered Sonic answering, just trying to work on autopilot as he heard nothing but the blood rushing in his ears.
In the end he barely remembered what he even said, just that Alan sent them off together to catch up.
North tried to find his footing back, so he focused on telling Sonic all that he missed in the past months. He told him about the races, Charlie and Babe, and how they were moving forward, he told him about the rings Alan was looking at to finally ask Jeff to marry him. He even told him about the drug to get rid of their Alpha senses.
Sonic did seem quite interested, eager to hear what happened to their friends, but whenever North tried to ask about France he got brushed off, Sonic asking about Pete instead. Or what happened with Kim.
North couldn’t do anything but answer. Too happy to even have Sonic there.
As the sun was slowly setting Sonic pulled out his phone to call a taxi.
„You know you don‘t have to sleep at the hotel right? You can just crash at mine..Or i can drive you?“ North offered. Sonic just gave him a dismissive wave. „It‘s alright, I thought you finally got used to having your own space, I didn‘t want to intrude. Especially without warning.“, came Somics response, the app already pulled up. North frowned. „But I‘m offering it now..You know I don‘t really like staying alone.. I texted you didn‘t I..about staying at Alans most nights when-” North cut himself off. He didn‘t want to unload on Sonic again. He had done that enough when he couldn‘t sleep, feeling like the only person who would listen to him was his best friend halfway across the world. In the end he never got a response, but seeing that the messages were at least read always gave him a sense of comfort. „Look, I already paid for the hotel, it‘s not a big deal. I‘ll see you tomorrow right?“ Sonic leaned back. „I can at least drive you? I don‘t even know when you leave, I just want to make the most of it.“ North knew he was clutching at straws, but he just had Sonic back, he didn‘t feel ready to let him go just yet. Even if he would see him again the day after.
Sonic shook his head. „It‘s on the other side of town, North. Plus the taxi is already on his way. See you tomorrow,“ with that Sonic grabbed his jacket and walked out of the garage. North‘s „but you didn‘t even book yet“ was said to an empty room.
Frozen he stared at the spot Sonic was standing in mere minutes ago, an emptiness spreading inside of him.
The following day was barely better. While Sonic was always the more reasonable one of the two of them, North felt like Sonic was unusually harsh in reprimanding him, like he was a child who didn‘t know the gravity of his words, instead of a man who tried to cheer up his friends.
When Babe revealed the Way look-alike, North didn‘t know what to do. So he did what he usually did, trying to lift their spirits, and again Sonic shut him down. After that he couldn‘t really take it anymore. He just wanted to talk to him again without feeling like an idiot, feeling like he was the butt of a joke that he didn’t understand. Determined, he made a vow to himself, to try again, and just ask him what was wrong. If it was something he could fix, he would do just about anything. Looking around, he spotted Sonic outside the glass, invested in a phone call. North grinned to himself, maybe he could try and surprise him. However, as he got closer he wasn‘t quite sure if he really should. The conversation didn‘t seem to be one he was meant to hear. Nor did he really know how to feel about Sonic apologizing to someone back in France about not calling sooner. Especially when he had North right here.
Shame suddenly overcame him at this moment. Of course Sonic found friends there. He had a bright personality and was always open to meeting new people. Of course people would love him. Just like North did, still does. He had no right to feel hurt by that. And maybe that really was just it. That Sonic wanted time to talk to his other friends too, that he didn’t have as much time for North anymore.
And it would be okay, he could learn how to share. So instead of hiding he walked up to Sonic, watching him hang up quickly. „Hey, Sonic. Who were you talking to?“ If someone were to ask him, North would swear he didn‘t really care, just wanted to ask, wanted to invite Sonic to share some of his adventures in France.
Luckily no one asked. Nor did anyone respond. Sonic just looked at him. North cleared his throat. „Actually, I came to ask you- wanna go get some food? There‘s a new grilled pork place next to the garage. I’ll invite the others too.” That at least got a response. „Didn’t you see how the guys were feeling? They just saw someone who looks like Way. Who’d be in the mood to eat?“ North felt stunted by those words. He was just trying to find something for them to do together again. Feeling sick at the thought of having to go back home to his empty apartment, knowing all the others had someone to fall back on. Meanwhile the one guy he thought he could always count on was looking at him like he suggested they should dance on Ways grave. „Are you avoiding me on purpose?“ He blurted out. „Not talking, not eating, not meeting up?“ North took a small step further, a weak smile on his lips, hoping Sonic would eliminate his doubts immediately. Instead he just shrugged, almost looking bored. „No. Why would I do that? About eating together…Let’s wait until things settle down first.“ „Will that be before you leave for Paris though?“ „I don‘t know. If not, I guess you‘ll have to wait until I come back next time.“ With those words Sonic brushed past him, greeting the mechanics.
North felt like a rug was pulled away from under him, he opened and closed his mouth a couple times, considering calling after him, but the tears welling up stopped him. He wasn’t sure if his voice would be steady enough.
He didn‘t know what he did wrong. If he even did anything wrong or if Sonic just met new people, people who were more like him, who were calmer, who weren‘t trying to make a joke out of everything. Who were actually smart and could help him with his studies. Who were there with him and not miles away. Who had actual ambitions and not just the dream of making it big on YouTube, while racing in the lower leagues for years, never fighting hard enough to make it further..
North clenched his fists. One hand went to his chest, trying to numb the stinging pain.
It didn‘t help.

If people think that KimKenta hasn't started, they're wrong. They're the couple who don't realize it, but they're the couple who falls in love simply by being with each other. The other side of the coin to NorthSonic.
Kenta absolutely felt a twinge when Kim showed up for him and Kim had a crack in his own armor when Kenta admitted his feelings for Pete. They're both characters who are used to being on the outside. It breeds a camaraderie that is the foundation of their relationship. Sprinkle in a life-threatening situation and the spark ignites. Suddenly, what was out of reach is in their grasp. I am expecting fireworks but also stability because they put in the work to understand each other first.
I've said it before, but Garfield and Benz need a series of their own. I need the true breadth of enemies to lovers they're capable of.
