Reactions to getting whipped
Content: whipping in punishment and slavery kind of context, new slave, PTSD
Presenting another part of their body to protect the first. Being hit on the same place multiple times can cause more severe injuries and our brains know that instinctively
Gasp of pain rather than an initial cry--this type of pain is so sharp, it's shocking. (This changes with different types of whips--one with heavier knots will feel more like getting pelted with rocks)
Holding their breath so they don't scream
clutching their work/whipping post tightly, bending over it
If on legs or arms--Pulling partly out of the way so that their clothes bulk over the area they were just whipped. The whipping effect is significantly hampered by having to get through clothes.
Screams usually start with a "ckl" sound
Afterward there may be different kinds of physical shock (I don't mean necessarily medical shock)--a sudden severe pain like this tells their body they are in serious danger, so they may be shaking, feeling faint, have incredible amounts of adrenaline
Feeling pain where they were lashed every time they see whumper again
Rage that can't abate. Especially if it was sudden and shocked their body, they would instinctively need to eliminate such a dangerous threat, so the animal rage may not die down for a long time, if ever

One of the main things I want to do is leave religion out of In Perpetuum, but is it realistic to have a world based solely in science and still have the big Gothic vibes I want it to have? Like a world that believes everything can be explained scientifically will still have myths, even if those myths are scientific. The earth is toxic and the beasts are made of pure toxins, etc. A world where pseudoscience is their religion, humors and astrology are still believed by some as fact. Is that enough? Idk. I feel like I've been writing religious worlds too long 😅😅😅

I came up with a solution!!! I added a THIRD character that speaks Isla so now they're all speaking Isla in front of Quincy and Quincy is picking up most of conversations, and if they want to have a full convo with her they have to do it one-on-one in a language she's actually fluent in. Poor gal...
When all my characters are bilingual but there's more than two languages in play so I'm stuck with this:

Not only are we SO back, but we hit 90k on Friend of Gods today!
AND Part 2 is officially behind me! I wrote a couple things from part 3 today and also outlined up to the final chapter, which I'm sort of leaving ill-defined at the moment in hopes that my characters will reveal their needs to me as far as closure goes.
I'm so ready to be done with this draft. i'm so ready to start revising. I have a lot of work to do, but we are ROCKING AND/OR ROLLING ONCE AGAIN!!!
