Boneheads ; Bright Orange Light

Prologue

Manny is cleaning the glasses behind the counter of the bar. Lewis and Manolo had to escort Brook out because he had a little too much for the night. Likely from being away from ‘pretty girls for too long’. Both Papyrus and Sir Daniel were cleaning up the rest of the cantina talking among each other. Most likely asking him more about knightly stuff he thinks. The tired former travel agent of the Department of Death gets startled from his thoughts by a familiar lackdascale voice.

Sans: “How's manning the bar been Manny?”

He puts up the last glass with a sigh and lights up a cigar from his coat.

Manny : “Same as usual Sans. But things have been monotonous lately.”

The skeleton with the blue hoodie shrugs closing his eyes with a light chuckle.

Sans : “Yup, a real ghost town you could say. No bones about it.”

Manny would roll his eyes if he had them in the way Lewis, Manolo, and a few others did as he lit his cigar at the pun. The only one he hasn’t seen in a while was…

Manny : “Oye, where’s Jack?”

Sans : “Oh him? Still mulling over that weird stone thing he and Paps found one day.”

Now that he hasn’t heard about.

Manny : “Si, what about it has him mulling over it?”

Sans : “It was shaped like a tombstone with runes I haven’t seen before. He’s been at it trying to crack what they mean but I may have a hunch but it's...”

He hasn’t heard Sans this unsure in a long time, but then again he’s the only one of the group who is way more savvy with things that would normally be unheard of where he was from. Hell anyone that wasn’t from San’s particular universe. But Manny admits it's interesting and knows Jack is a kindred spirit in knowing more about it. The door swings to the east wing open with Jack using his long leg to kick it open.

Jack : “Sans you won’t believe what just happened!”

In his spindly arms was tombstone-shaped slate. The runes seen to have a subtle glow to them and is making an eerie hum.

Sans : “Woah there! What do you mean by that Jack?”

Jack : “It spoke! Do you think it's a ghost trapped inside this headstone or…”

The seems to get louder as a disembodied and faded voice saying.

??? : “Not a ghost… a messenger… They will arrive in a bright orange light.”

Manny and Sans look at each other. Was this a bad omen? The slate is placed on a table. Lewis and the others save for Brook who was sobering up look at the strange tombstone. The hot-headed ghost with a magenta pompadour asks…

Lewis : “Well? Ya’ll two don’t think it's a trap ain't it?”

Sans : “No idea. Jack just came in with it and it just started to talk.”

Papyrus starts looking at it with suspicion crossing his arms.

Papyrus : “I have my eyes on you tombstone thing. What is your motives?”

No response but still that eerie hum persists before it pipes up again. It was still faded as if whoever was speaking through it was trying desperately to come through but the signal was weak.

??? : “No harm... The Coded, the Hero and the Alcoholic…”

Sir Danial huffs with the sword at his side. He was getting impatient with this thing.

Sir Danial : “Umm um um ummm um umm um?” / [Now what it’s talking about?]

Manolo looks concern putting his hand on the one eyed knight’s shoulder.

Manolo : “Coded, hero and alcoholic? Does it mean out of all of us?”

Papyrus : “The ‘Hero’ could be me or Sir Daniel right? But who is this coded?”

Manny shrugs and sighs. If this thing isn’t talking about either of them then he dreads he’s going to have another handful to deal with. Brook stumbles in, sober enough to process what’s going on.

Brook : “Can someone put an end to that dreadful hum please. My skull hurts… Oh? What is that?”

Lewis : “Notta clue. Donno if this thing is talkin’ about us or someone or somethin’ else.”

Brook : “Oh… A living tombstone? Haven’t heard of that but then again…”

Sans : “Living tombstone? Um…”

Sans has heard of that somewhere before. Now he recognizes the voice and can get a vague idea on who “the Coded” is but the other two not so much.

Sans : “Ahh! Now I get it. The Coded is one of the…”

Before Sans could finish the sentence all the sudden they all could hear and feel a loud hollow boom coming from the outside. Out the window there was a pillar of orange light that was nearly as bright as the sun in the moonless midnight sky.

Sir Danial : “Ummm um umm um umm?!” / [What the hell is that?!]

Manolo looks at Sir Danial with a stern look before turning to Lewis, Manny and Sans stepping outside. The orange pillar of light started to warp and distort into three thinner bands of light. The tombstone slate seems to be playing… music? The genre of music seems to be indie rock of some kind. It seems to be alternating between three songs like a radio with a broken scan nob.

“Then you will know what I am thinking…”

“But they told me, "Dance…”

“But now I'm feeling so beautiful…”

The runes are glowing the same shade of safety orange as the warping beams of light. Then the three beams meet back into each other causing a flashbang with three streaks streaming through the sky like shooting stars with one of them colliding into the lighthouse on the shore a few miles away from the cantina. The other two forked west into one of the beaches while the other east into the outskirts. The bonehead crow looks at each other with a mixture of concern and confusion as the voice from the tombstone slate coming clearly this time before glow from the runes die down and it becomes silent.

??? : “They are here… Find them.”

The Bonehead crew decides to split up into three teams to investigate what or who crashed down.

Sans and Jack head to the lighthouse.

Lewis, Manny and Brook go west to the beach.

Manolo along with Papyrus and Sir Danial go east towards the outskirts.

Keep in mind there are exceptions of course when it comes to color corillation and there are cases where someone has two elements to their spectral spark but they are considered unheard of unless it’s someone who also wields either an infinity or void scroll.

Reverb and His Corrupting Influnence

I think all will agree that if Mystery didn’t do anything Arthur would possibly be used as a meat puppet by our favorite horned asshole and would have done Vivi in too if given the chance. Why is that? I think that the oni/demons of any specific sin feed off of whatever vise someone is trying to conceal. Reverb was feeding off of Arthur’s resentment and took possession of his arm after Mystery severed Reverb’s connection before he could fully possess him.. Unlike other paranormas (save for the type of yokai Shiromori belongs to) of the MSAverse they can’t survive without feeding off the latent specra of others (both mortal and immortal) when not in their native domain. Hellborn tend to not show up in the living directly and rely on mortal help by making a ‘deal’ with them. Like with Reverb and whoever this [Solo] is.

Cursed Forest of Sakkimori and the Wood Oni Tribe

Some distance away from Kodama province the Yukino Clan and many others called home is a forest said to drain one’s very life force if they get lost inside. Those who barely managed to make it out report seeing what appears to be oni who were taunting and attacking them using flora in the area. Some speculate these type of oni used to be humans who had their bodies turned to wood and need to feed off of blood. While others assume they only take humanoid shapes to learn about particular targets and track them down using their spectral floral magic to pin point their location.

🎍Fanon

Mystery and the Seikaiju

Sometime before giving Shiromori life Mystery devoured a fruit from a tree known to little as the Seikaiju (world tree). Before then Mystery was merely a gitsune but eating the solo fruit not only transformed him into a kitsune but gave him various abilities only weilded by a being simply coined as ‘Kami’. In every MSA universe there is a Seikaiju and one who ate it’s fruit to see the ‘Eternal Web of Fate’ and gain a link to the entity called ‘The Web Keeper.’.

Enigma ; The Keeper of the Web

“To many it is a myth but to yokai and any paranorma without it we and everyone and everything would cease to exist. The very knowledge of it can tend to drive most to madness. ‘Enigma’ is only just a name for a being that is beyond comprehension that any mere god or Kami. It doesn’t care for worship ; it’s aim is the maintenance Web of Fate (MSA Multiverse) come the End.”

Enigma or Web Keeper is a primordial entity that’s said to have seen all possible futures, pasts and presents all at once since it’s an extension of an entity simply called [[redacted]]. Not much is known about this multiversal. The picture above is a mural discovered in the ruins of [[location redacted]].

Arthur’s Ambivalence

While his aversion to the paranormal is due to his latent clairvoyance it’s tied back to the disappearance of his cousin who set up to move out of his biological dad’s home and to Lance’s shop instead. His name was Murlyn Kingsmen ; Lance’s son and a close mutual friend to Duet. He was researching paranormal activity at an abandoned mining site farther in the desert in what the locals called ‘the giants graveyard’ because of the shape of the buttes. Many call this particular location “The Living Tombstone” because of the reported activity from there. One day he just vanished without a trace.

🏵 Cast

Lewis

His birthday is October 27th (Ghost MV’s release date). Allegedly he was born somewhere near Calcasieu River in Louisiana but he doesn’t know for sure.

He’s creole with his former surname being Dubec. While he tried to dig deeper Lewis has found very vague leads so while alive he just quit because to him his adoptive family is more important to him.

He not only is a skilled and self-taught vocalist and violinist but also knows plenty about other instruments.

When alive he barely if ever cursed at all unless for stressful situations. But as a ghost he loses that filter entirely and can’t go one moment without saying some variation of ‘fuck’.

Also as a ghost Lewis is alot more sardonic and quick tempered compared to when he was alive.

His deadbeats are paradoxically both an extension of Lewis’ subconscious and their own entities who form a symbiotic relationship with him as their ‘boss’ of sorts.

Arthur

His birthday is April 16th (Freaking Out MV’s release date) in Tempo. He barely knew his mom aside from her name ; Gwendolyn. And has a very astranged relationship with his father Pen.

Arthur’s full name is Arthur Pendragon Kingsmen XIII. He wholeheartedly believes that alone makes him prone to bad luck.

While he isn’t aware of it, Arthur has some level of clairvoyance. He didn’t like investigations because he was skeptical of any paranormal activity. He thought there was going to be a time when something really bad would happen.

Arthur has known Lewis a bit longer than he’s known Vivi. He’s known him since kindergarten while the two of them met Vivi early in middle school. When they started dating he didn’t know how to feel about it since he wanted to confess to him about how he felt but didn't work up the nerve to say it.

He has night terrors of that incident with the cave. Sometimes they end with a feral Mystery looming over him while others is an obscure silhouette of Reverb taunting him.

Vivi

She was born on October 13th (on a Friday no less and Hellbent’s Release Date) in Odessa to a stern and perfectionist anesthesiologist Dr. Aoi Yukino and yoga instructor Mimi Thomson Yukino. They moved to Tempo for work related reasons.

Vivi‘s been one of the best batters in Tempo High School’s softball team.

Her apartment has a room fashioned as a personal archive which consists of boxes of photographs, tape recordings and artifacts from prior investigations.

She runs a supernatural blog that used to be called ‘The Yukino Yuurei Archives’ before forming and rebranding the Mystery Skulls after getting Lewis and Arthur on board.

The reason she isn't as scared by paranormal activity is because it’s a special interest to her. One of her most prized possessions she has is a book on yokai given to her by Grandma Yukino as a birthday gift.

Mystery

He’s a kit between two kitsunes from rival clans ; Hikari and Kage. Both of them didn’t accept him into their fold. As a result, he mostly wandered and did as he pleased.

After his fight against Mushi and Shiromori’s sudden betrayal he formed a contract with the Yukino clan. For what reason I’m going to go into my fanon section in Part 3.

While Vivi’s memories where altered by Lewis's inexperienced and unconscious use of magic after his spectral spark was ignited, Arthur’s were mostly suppressed by Mystery who had more experience.

Mystery did have a humanoid form but has been out of practice with his invite shapeshifting abilities since his tails were cut.

He can telepathically talk but simply choses not to so he wouldn’t blow his cover.

While his spectral spark does not have a particular elemental affinity it’s very potent to the point it can have the potential to create new life (I.e. Shiromori.) What that is something I’ll cover in my fanon next post.

💮 : World Building

Spectra ; The Color of Magic

So I thought, what is the force that has Shiromori addicted to Mystery’s blood in particular and what has given Lewis the elemental affinity of fire? I had given this force a name ; spectra. It’s not only one’s lifeforse but their very soul which varies in color and elemental affinities. It can sometimes gains a form of sapience but have no awareness of their previous identity like the Deadbeats. Every century or so their are select individuals who are fated to have a spectral spark (or spark for short) which after a certain event that amplifies their spectra significantly. For example Vivi’s ice (which is considered ultra rare to manifest) spectral spark when she fought back against Shiromori in Hellbent. And Lewis’ fire-based spark ignited after he discovered he died. Arthur (who has an electrical spectral spark) has it too but hasn’t ignited yet. This makes the welder stronger then they were before it was ignited. This can come as a detriment however because of beings that feed directly off of specra including but not limited to demons/oni (Reverb) and various categories of yokai that need it for substance (Shiromori).

The Afterlife of MSAverse

While it isn’t clear how it works but the fact Reverb exists suggest their at least is a version of hell in canon. What’s also canon is there are unfortunate souls who fall through the cracks and become ghosts still roaming the living world to solve their unfinished business. The way I thought of it is their is a place called limbo that most souls go to get processed and judged by a council of eternal entities to either ascend to ‘heaven’ or descend to ‘hell’ to get purified before coming back to limbo to be assessed. Both ‘heaven’ and ‘hell’ are very loose terms for them and not one to one to any particular religion/mythology but does drew more from the Eastern conception of the afterlife as opposed to Western one.

The Existence of Yokai (and possibly cryptids.)

Instead of being Japanese parables and cautionary tales irl yokai are a taxonomic rank of beings that co-exist with humans. While some are helpful and friendly others are hostile when humans encroach on their domain/territory. Take for example Mystery when he was still ‘feral’ when he along with Shiromori was responsible for the disappearances of warriors around the province Mushi lived in at the time. Most higher Yokai such as kitsunes are born with very potent spectra (even if it doesn’t have a particular elemental affinity).

Hi, I just have a silly question on if any of the tlt cast characters are neurodivergent? (I mainly ask cause projection + a lot of the fandom is neurodivergent lol/pos)

I mean Yoav and I certainly both are neurodivergent lol. Like do you mean the characters in canon? My POV around the tombsonas specifically is that they’re intentionally semi-blank slates that we as a community kinda imprint on. For example if you’re AuDHD and you feel a kinship with Tesla, then Tesla can be AuDHD! The fact that the tombsonas pair with an indefinite amount of people across all of time and space means that EVERYONE is in the mix. I don’t want anyone to feel excluded or unrepresented because canon has not specifically shouted them out. Or feel like “well I have dyspraxia and so does Armstrong, so that forces me to look at them as representing me, when otherwise I’d more relate to Doc.”

There’s a (maybe apocryphal) story attributed to Stan Lee where he emphasized the importance Spider-Man being fully covered head to toe, because it means almost anyone can feel like they could be inside the suit - I feel much the same way about the Tombsonas. They’re not people - YOU are the people, so whatever is in you is in them.

Outside the tombsonas, I definitely think (emphasis on think, as these are my headcanon not literal canon) Snoozie is ADHD or AuDHD, Haru has BPD, and Drunk Guy atop his canonical addiction also has PTSD.
