Definitely facing to the left… that was the way I drew people for pretty much all of high school. Last year in artfight I tried to kick the habit by drawing someone facing right for every person I drew facing left (which definitely helped) but lately I’ve been slacking off at that

Hopefully this doesn't become too rambly, but here goes:

Disclaimer: I don't know if any of this works for Mac (or linux for that matter), I'm using a windows PC and I think fontforge might be windows exclusive.

I started by writing out the actual letters in Clip Studio Paint. This was actually something I made back in December but never got around to.

I then made a small canvas (I started with 256x256 but cropped it a bit afterwards to make spacing easier) and pasted each individual character as its own layer, resizing or moving characters where it was needed. When I turn on all the letters it looked like this ^

I used fontforge to make the actual font. In fontforge, double click on the individual letter to open its editor. Theres 3 layers in the editor: the background, the foreground, and the guide. In the background, open import and bring in the bitmap of the letter/character you currently have open (For this next part, you'll need autotracer unless you want to manually trace everything). Switch to the foreground layer, open the Element menu, and select autotrace. You can make minor adjustments from there but it can be a little finicky. Rinse and repeat for the rest of the characters you plan on doing-- there's a more in-depth guide here but I can also try to answer questions.

When I first exported the font there was a lot of weird spacing, I fixed that by selecting all the characters I'd made, then opening the Metrics menu and selecting auto-width.

For spaces (32 is space, 9 is tab, 160 is no-break space), in the character editor, open the Metrics menu and set the width. For space I measured the length of the underscore I made (536) and used that number, I did the same for no-break space, and honestly I forgot to do tab. But I guess I'd double the width of space. Idk I'm not a graphic designer. Anyways, make sure you don't forget this, or you'll get a '[]' character every time you hit space (at least if you use it in CSP).

When you're done, File > Generate Fonts. I used the TrueType format (.ttf). You might get these two errors:

I hit yes, then generate. You could go back and try to fix whatever errors it detects but mine seems to work fine anyways.

In CSP, just open one of the text tools and click the font dropdown menu, then add font from files.

If you test your font in CSP, realize there's some error with it, go back to fontforge to change it, then try to reupload the font to CSP, you'll probably get an error dialogue saying it can't add the font because it already exists (even if you've changed it). You have to open the File menu > manage fonts, and delete it from there. I'm only adding this because I was stuck for a solid 10 minutes trying to delete my font from CSP and I couldn't get it.
