I do always practice. I practice so much. Sometimes I get frustrated and teary, but I really try to stay on the ball. I will. I'm gonna try so hard. You'll be so proud of me, and so will Bas and Hunter. I'm going to make you proud, though. You better be ready for that. I just want to impress you.

I know. I know you do, and no. I told you, that hunger is a good thing. It’s whats going to keep you going in the long haul for this. You’ll get over any obstacle if you keep that drive. I’m telling you Xander, hold that close. Something you can do right now? There’s always practice. Always. Practice, practice practice. And, the saying is cliche and perfection isn’t attainable, but Practice makes Perfect, and that’s a good rule of thumb to live by. Find material, any material. Ask me questions if you need it. But try things out. Different monologues you find, different acting contexts. All of it.

I don't think you can get food poisoning from cake. Loads of people eat raw cake mixture and don't die. I'll bring you tons of soda, though, if you do get sick. Promise!

.. Right. Okay. I'm just impatient. I want to get somewhere now. I don't know why but I don't want to press pause and take things slowly. I want all of those experiences as soon as possible, Sir. I just want it so much. Is that bad?

Yeah, I guess it will. I’ll ask you to come help me out and ease my sickness. Lots of fizzy soda does the trick usually.

I didn’t say that either. Look at Haley Joel Osment. Look at Dakota Fanning. Kids started out young, and were doing commercials while some of us were still in high school or whatever. And they just kept getting better, all the time. They’re not old. But they did take the time to amass that experience and hone their craft. It’s not gonna come to you on a silver platter, Xander. Not overnight either. But if you’re one of the greats you’ll stand head and shoulders above the rest from the beginning. So far, I don’t see you having trouble with doing that.

I do, and that’d be great if you could make it that way.

Sure. I can give you tips, and I can train you the best I know how. You’ve already got a lot of raw talent, and that’s the best foundation you can have as an actor. The rest of it? Comes with two things. Age, and experience. You get up there, and you perform every chance you get. And I’m not talking about just here. Ohio, the surrounding cities around Stafford— find opportunities, if you really want it. And, I can tell you want it. That hunger is going to serve you well. You’ve got what it takes, alright? You’ll get there, boy. Don’t sweat it.

That’s a shame. I love cake.  But you know what they say. It’s all about the baking and not about the eating. If you’re just doing it for pleasure.

Well, listen. It wasn’t the absolute best I’d ever seen. You had a few errors in memorization- and Shakespearan theatre directors are notoriously unforgiving of that. There was some mastery of emotion that was left to be wanted. But, overall? One of my top rated student performances I’ve seen of that piece in a long time. You did good, Xander.

Well, I mean.. I can't really say I have. Not one that's gone well, at least. Normally they don't rise or they explode or I get egg shell in it. This time I have banana and blueberries and a special pot to crack the egg in first.
