Tekken — Random thoughts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is it just me, or does anyone else also hate the fact that we got more of Reina than Kazuya in the Tekken 8 storymode? 🤔
Don't get me wrong, while it was interesting to see Kazuya take center stage as the main antagonist (since I think this position was held by Heihachi for basically the entire series, while Kaz was "second"); there was no depth.
The story was based only on the conflict itself, Jin's search for his inner self and the inclusion of Reina, but… and Kazuya? He was just the villain who had to be stopped, like the plot of a predictable play.
There were no flashbacks to his childhood or adolescence; not even something more "recent", like his first meeting with Jun during T2, which I think would have been cool, because truth be told, that part is still a mystery: everything that was built around Kazuya and Jun during T2 is mostly fan headcanons, non-canon installations or a story put together by extra material, but not anything really solid.
The storymode wasn't too bad, but I think not exploring Kazuya more and being more introspective with him was a huge wasted opportunity. Heck, we even had flashbacks of Kazumi from Heihachi's perspective in S7!
And no, don't think I'm forgetting the part about Kazuya having visions of Heihachi while he was facing Lars, because while he added a little (just a little), it wasn't enough (and it was a bit odd and dumb, to be honest).
I hope that in some story DLC expansion they can explore Kazuya in this way… because waiting 10 years for T9 is going to be very long… and disappointing if his story is told just the half.

Tekken — Random thoughts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TRIGGER WARNING: POSSIBLE TEKKEN 8 SPOILERS
I… still don't know what developers tried to do with Nina.
That is to say… I don't know what the intention was, if they are going to follow the line of that specific part when Reina makes her a proposal or what other possible path they are going to give her.
And it could be said that Nina is the most neutral and impartial character in the series, perhaps one of the only few who moves along the thin line of good and evil; that she only serves her own interests.
However, and even though her actions as an assassin are morally questionable, there are two interesting factors to take into account:
1- what characters see of her inside the game 2- what we see of her from the outside the game
In the first case, her goal was to kill Heihachi and Kazuya in T1 and T2, respectively. In T4, she had to eliminate a boxer, which would have been easy for her. In T5, she battled for days against her sister and then it seemed like she was going to kill her in the tournament, given the agreement they both made. She helps her employer run a global war in T6. She goes after her target to take him to her new employer in T7.
In the second case, on the other hand; it would have resulted in a "greater good", if her missions been fulfilled in the first two installments. She aborted her mission in T4, since she discovered the origin of her target: her son Steve. She spared her sister's life in T5. The world war was for the "greater good" in T6. She allowed Lars and Lee to take Jin so they could better protect him in T7, rather than giving him to Heihachi.
I repeat; her actions are questionable and her neutrality can be taken for granted, but objectively there is a tendency for her to do good directly or indirectly.
But now, in T8… she just works for Kazuya without further ado (considering what he did to her in T2, and how it envolved); and she seems to pay attention to Reina's offer later.
I mention it again: I know that Nina is neutral, that she only serves her own interests and that she probably doesn't take the "damage" that has been done to her in the past so personally (Kazuya capturing her and Heihachi using her as an experiment, and then she working for them in a future)… However, it makes me quite upset that she is treated only as an emotionless killing machine and that she is only motivated by the money they can offer her for her services, when literally there were numerous situations in which she showed to be absolutely thoughtful and act with an emotional sanity.
Anyway… it was just a reflection that I wanted to get out of me.
P.s.: I'll be probably posting a more general opinion on Tekken 8's storymode, when people be able to play the game... or at least watch it on YouTube, just like me. I don't want to spoil anyone.

Tekken — Random thoughts
Look... I don't hate Reina, buuut...
The idea of more Mishimas for just perpetuating the name is just... meeehh...
Harada already stated that the old man had "18 to 25" children, "or maybe more".
So Lars was enough, and it was clear the concept of Heihachi unable to keep his d*ck inside his pants.
Tekken should go forward and try to explore something else aside from thw Mishimas, even if all Tekken story involves them since the beginning.
But yeah, it would be cool to see other than Mishimas to take protagonism or see other enemies out of that clan.
Tekken has a lot of potential to be more that it is. But if you stuck a story for around 30 years in only a name with no much significative changes... Well, then... it's like if you're eithee underestimating or insulting your clients: the fans.
Just look at Street Fighter: its storyline is a bit messy, but it has plenty of other evil characters other than Bison. Same as The King of Fighters. Also Mortal Kombat. Etc.
Anyway...

Tekken — Random thoughts
Tumblr media
Okay, but Nina and Jin in Tekken 6? I simply love them. Tekken 6 gave (not just me but some other people too) the foundation for an amazing ship.
A respectful relationship that started with work, and the Scenario Campaign showed their closeness and confidence, without losing their professionalism and focus on Jin's goal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Story-wise, Tekken 6 is… interesting, to say the least. I don't know, I still have mixed feelings about the direction they gave Jin's development and what he was like since Tekken 3.
I can't say that I like that in Tekken 6 he became a war criminal and did such aberrations, when Azazel's problem could have been addressed in another way; because actually, I don't like it at all.
But on the other hand, I don't totally hate the concept itself. I just find it a little hard to digest.
What I can save (or at least try to) is that, from a personal opinion, I don't think he did it because it's the destiny of bearers of Mishima blood to be corrupted. Because, in fact, I don't think Jin was corrupted by having Mishima blood or by the influence of the Devil Gene.
I think he did everything out of his conscience. A twisted, fucked up and terrible way of doing things, but by conscience at the end. Because if we go to the fact, he always struggled and fought against the influence of the curse, and tried to keep it at bay as much as he could (in despite of his T3 and T4 endings, in T5 vs. Hwoarang, in T7 in the desert)… well, in the end of Scenario Campaign we could see how Jin consciously used the power of the Devil Gene (without turning into Devil) to defeat Azazel.
It's a bummer that they "ruined" Jin like that, but it was an interesting chapter in Tekken history.
Anyway, before starting to wander more than necessary… I know that Tekken: Blood Vengeance and the Tekken Comic by Titan Comics aren't canon either, but Nina and Jin roles in each one are a good addition for this dreamy ship (especially in the comics).
Tumblr media
And no, my point isn't that the base of the ship has to be that the woman has to do the whole work and being his support 24/7 (a thing that usually happens in the Japanese culture: the female character being just a bland sidekick with no depth and the protagonit's love interest; just as in mostly of shonens, for example), or because it's just the job she was hired for… But because both of them could relate to each other: both suffering child abuse from a close family member, both having family members they dislike, both having lost a family member they loved, both having suffered and survived Ogre's attack, and both having a mostly lonely path in life… because they know they're not the best company and their methods are very questionable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feelings aren't part of their lifestyle and not allowing themselves to open their hearts (because having feelings means their goals be compromised), is a fact. And it's a fact that a ship like this will never happen in canon, yet I always loved their genuine mutual trust and respect. It's far away from the Japanese culture's typical cliché of the badass lonely boy and the cute submissive girl who has a huge crush on him, is ghosted during most of the series and wants to "save" him but just meddles, resulting annoying most of times. It reminds me to someone… Wait!!
Alright, speaking more seriously now… Tekken 6 turned 14 years some daya ago (especifically for PS3 and XBox, on October 30th), and this was a good opportunity to talk about an underestimated and unapreciated OTP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm very intrigued about what's going to happen in Tekken 8, and the path of both of them when Bamco already revealed the roster's bios. Nina working for Kazuya doesn't make sense if we take into account her relationship with Jin during Tekken 6, the fact that she failed on purpose for Lars and Lei to protect Jin from Heihachi and... taking as bonus the non-canonical comics and BV.
Possibly developers will take the path of Street Fighter x Tekken's story? Nina working with Kazuya but undercover, for Jin's instructions? Because no one can deny how amazing was Jin trusting someone since the beginning, spending time with that someone and being able to share thoughts... even if it's just professionaly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
P.s.: I feel the luckiest guy alive, since I have the privilege of writing this wonderful ship on Twitter... I mean, X. My dearest friend @carade0jete and I roleplay as Nina and Jin, respectively, since almost five years. An amazing journey that still goes on and will last until that app is either ruined or closed by El*n M*sk. Love you, bb. ♥️✨

CHARACTER RELATIONSHIP ANALYSIS:
Jin Kazama & Devil Jin
Jin and Devil Jin are like twins who cannot stand each other, but they are bound together in life and death, and they still care for one another in very different ways, because they know they depend on each other. The reason why Devil Jin is "evil" (I'm saying this in quotes because the devil as a creature isn't aware of concept good vs evil, they are more like an animal that reacts to everything instinctively and on impulse) is because when they awakened, their host was dead, and death was the first way they came to life and in contact with the outside world, which is absolutely tragic in a way.
They seem to think that everything unknown to them surrounding their host is evil and must be eradicated in order to make world safe for both them and Jin, but also because they were "programmed" to hate humans as a part of their instinct, as they were created by Azazel as a tool for punishment against humanity.
Jin regards them as a nuisance and tries to get rid of them, thus running away from everyone, which only emphasises the Devil's own conclusion about the world being evil, while it is actually Jin fearing for everyone's lives because Kurou has been awakened and he has absolutely no idea what they can do when they take over his body and mind.
Devil Jin is what would be considered Jin's dark side - sadistic, impulsive, insane and ruthless, but what is the exact reason for that? The Kazama blood being mixed with the Mishima blood gives a very unstable final product - Jin Kazama, whose Kazama blood is so strongly devil-repelent that it retracts absolutely every single component from Jin's body and basically stops the blood from flowing - and by that way, when Devil Jin takes over, Jin technically dies, given the corpse-like pale tone that Jin's body gains when corrupted by the devil gene. It is only after it retreats that his heart starts to beat again as one of the Kazamas' unique trait - power of healing others and self-healing, as means of revival.
This would essentially explain why Jin is not aware of his actions when the devil gene possesses him, and given the fact that other people who know Jin have recognised this as well, it is only further confirmed that Jin Kazama and Devil Jin are not the same person.
They share the same body, but their souls and personalities are vastly different.
Jin loathes himself because of this, but because the Devil seems to not understand why their host loathes them, they blame it on other people, mainly the ones close to Jin, and often for the wrong reasons (such as Xiaoyu and Hwoarang).
This missunderstanding is the constant source of Jin's suffering and detoriorating mental state, as it continues on.
But as he spent a large amount of time in a coma, Jin was actually able to communicate with and even see his devil side, face to face.
They opened up their souls for the first time and came to realise who they truly were. They made amends and formed an unlikely alliance, but also swore to each other that if one were to betray another, they would both go down together.
And when Jin had finally awakened from the coma, he felt stronger - because Kurou actually started helping him for the first time by letting him lend their powers and call them whenever he needed.
.
This was an analysis of Jin's and Devil Jin's relationship throughout the Tekken franchise, explained through my own lens and headcanons.
In my headcanon, the devil becomes much more self-aware and they develop a sense of their own self that they become a separate entity that is still part of the human Jin Kazama. And because of that, Jin gives them a nickname - Kurou, meaning "trouble", "hardship", as opposed to his name that means "benevolence".
They do not have a gender, nor do they comply to the human concept of gender - they reject it, as they view it as the act of humans trying to make their own rules regarding world, which they despise. Hence they claim they have no gender, which Jin partially understands, but still doesn't like their views.
This was my full analysis of the relationship between Jin and Devil Jin, as their bond is one of the few things in Tekken that intrigues me to no end and I sincerely hope this will be partially expanded upon in the upcoming game's story mode.
Thank you for reading!

ㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ 〔 Headcanon for @teslagravity 〕
OOC: I always had the thought, the belief, the feeling (or whatever you want to call it) that Lars was close to Jin and the only one of the Mishimas (we know Jin wouldn't consider himself a Mishima, but, you know...) that he really liked. And no, I'm not talking about the moments before the preparations for the war just before the Sixth Tournament, but in the time of the events before the Third Tournament.
With Jin having come of age, he would begin working as an assistant in the Mishima Zaibatsu; time in which Lars in turn stood out as a young officer of the Tekken Force.
Lars always had a good eye, was always intelligent and knew the details that involved Heihachi's actions with his private army, that this benefactor image was only a masquerade to cover his misdeeds. But Alexandersson sensed that the young Kazama was different from the old man, as it would not be so difficult for someone like Lars to find out and come up with the right information: the history of Heihachi and Kazuya in the previous two tournaments, his conclusion that Ogre killed Jun (not that Jin was open and looking to vent just like that, or that absolutely all Tekken Force missions are on record, but it doesn't take a genius to conclude that the monster the private army woke up on that excavation was the same that had been wreaking havoc for years, killing and "consuming" fighters around the world).
Also, Jin was lonely and aloof, but docile and kind, so several times he went to train with Lars, Tougou and some other members of the Tekken Force (this also helped to keep Jin away from Heihachi). Lars sensed that Jin had potential, and that with proper training, he could go further than the old Mishima and improve things.
When the events of the end of the Third Tournament happened and Jin disappeared, Lars couldn't do much to find him and help him, since it meant exposing himself too much and the still leader Heihachi would not look kindly on it. Time passed, and despite not having approached Jin during the Fourth and Fifth Tournaments (don't ask me how with a possessed Jinpachi in charge of the Zaibatsu then), since he was a more "different" Jin than the young man he once met, he preferred to keep an eye on him from a distance anyway.
Jin wins the Fifth Tournament and takes over the Mishima Zaibatsu, but his plans were different from what Lars felt Jin could do. Alexandersson took this betrayal of the values he believed the young Kazama held very personally; for he would never have imagined that the boy who despised his lineage was becoming a corrupt tyrant like his predecessors.
Even if he really appreciated him too, Jin knew that Lars would not support him in the war, since he knew of Lars' strong righteous personality. Alexandersson tried to reason with Kazama, but he was too intent on burning the world, a reason Lars never understood… until everything was revealed: the "relation" (?) of blood curse, Azazel and the "salvation" of the world.
Lars believed Jin another enemy after feeling betrayed, but… he later understood that possibly Jin was not the best, but perhaps the least worse than he could still redeem himself and make things right in the end. Because while Lars always had the bravery, strength, and determination to bring justice with Yggdrasil… he couldn't do much if he was up against Devils. Much to his chagrin, Lars knew that another Devil was needed to finish him off.
"He who fights with monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you…"

BLEACH and TEKKEN
OOC: So... The last year I was reading the Bleach manga (by the first time), and found out that Ichigo and Tatsuki are Tekken players.
And my first thought was trying to discover who are their mains. I don't know if there's already something stated or confirmed about it, since I didn't search anything (me being a lazy ass? no way), but I have some ideas regarding this interesting thing.
First of all, I'd like to talk about the time settled in Bleach. Around this time, Ichigo and Tatsuki were 17 years old; and according to Bleach Wiki, this event happened in 2003. On the other hand, Tekken 4 was released as an arcade game in 2001 (and on the PS2 in 2002); and Tekken 5 was released for arcades in 2004 (and for the PS2 in 2005).
So my guess is that Ichigo is a Jin main, and probably a Devil Jin main as well (given that they share similarities in somewhat a distant personality, an hybrid nature, lost their mothers at young age, a strong sense of justice and protect people, among others). About Tatsuki, I was thinking that she is a Paul main (given their high mastery in martial arts and somewhat hot-headed personality); althought eventually she also mained others like Marduk (a vale tudo master, as it was her dream), and Asuka (because of the tomboy, martial arts young girl and kinda explosive persona).
But, once again, it's just a thought, a headcanon.
Also, I found some interesting on Reddit. Althought, well... it's Reddit.

For your Valentine’s Special: Ship or Dip + Jin and Nina
🥺💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜You mean basically the closest thing I have to an OTP in this fandom???? Ship. Hella ship. I could definitely get behind other Jin ships like Jin x Hwoarang as well, but whether you look at them as close friends / close allies or something more, Jin & Nina just work. When given more than a quick glance, they actually have quite a few big things in common.
Nina was brainwashed by Ogre, she is one of the few in the world who can say she knows what it feels like to have some sort of monstrous beast take over your brain, and thanks to the devil gene Jin is another. While not the same, ironically the apathetic assassin can sympathize with him and understand his inner battle. Meanwhile Jin has the potential to equally understand Nina's Ogre inflicted trauma, both because of that and because Jin obviously has a deep seeded hatred of the God of fighting too thanks to what it did to Jun.
Then there's their shared hatred of Heihachi and Kazuya. The duo responsible for making both of their lives miserable. Kazuya put Nina in her cryosleep, Heihachi ordered the experiments on her and even had the audacity to treat her like his personal weapon. And Jin's hatred towards the two needs no explanation.
They both know what it's like to come from families filled with drama and endless fighting, where it feels like their destinies were set in stone the minute they were born.
They both know what it's like to be viewed as monsters, inhuman. Even their personalities, down to the differences they share, line up in ways that seem to benefit each other.
They're the epitome of Leo Aquarius compatibility 💜
Long story short: I’M SOFT.
