4. Are there any writers that inspire you?

Ernest Hemingway is my biggest one!  I really wasn’t kidding that I go for minimalism, hahaha ;)  I’ve read way less Hemingway than I SHOULD have, given how influential his work is on my writing, but recently I was reading a Hemingway piece and going “that sounds like something *I* would have said” 😂 (minus the parts where he sucks about women) 😛  “Hills Like White Elephants” is a deservedly much-cited example of talking about the thing without talking about the thing, oh heck, I’ll share my fic that I think shares this spirit the most:

1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)

bawwwhaha well, five ^^;  I write to my own preferences, so of course it’s a five for me PERSONALLY, though it might not be a style that everyone jives with (minimalist narration, mostly one-shots).  I’m really into the economy of words and saying the most with the least amount of verbiage, plus I can be impatient as both a writer and reader 😂

But I still find myself improving as a writer all the time!  I feel like I’m improving finer and finer details and shades of meaning, like zooming in on a fractal and seeing the smaller but no less beautiful edges

10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?

lol I’m a huge slut for hurt/comfort.  I like people being hurt and comforted, what can I say 😂

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.

My biggest exception to only writing one-shots, it’s an alternate timeline where Roxas is friends with Larxene and Marluxia instead of Axel, and it was going to be two chapters and I just posted the 36th chapter last night 😂  I started learning French for this fic cuz there’s eventually gonna be like, A LINE in French 😂

This fic has evolved so much since it was first conceived, to the point that I started making additions to the Kingdom Hearts worldbuilding that I swear are gonna come up SOME day 😅 honestly I’ve also sold myself so hard on this friendship between Roxas and Larxene and Marluxia that I’m more invested in it than Roxas’s canonical friendship with Axel.  I would say so much more but I don’t wanna give spoilers 😉

33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?

YES FAM I want you to know about how much attention I pay to the rhythm of the words!  I’m too embarrassed to actually read my work aloud like people say you should do while writing, but I sure do mouth the words to myself to see if they feel good together.

My first priority is character voice - is that a word that character would use - and my SECOND priority is “does it sound good that way?”  And usually what I consider “sounds good” is something to the rhythm of “lions and tigers and bears” 😆

A recent example:  “How ‘bout we sit with the birds,” said the kid.

I have a lot of feelings about how VITAL the word “that” is for rhythm purposes (and how friendly it is for being optional to use), and I take such offense when I see people saying it’s a useless word and you should cut it.  Maybe we’re using it for different things bro.  Maybe what I’m writing is music.
