gasp! my memory circuits were shocked into remembering Plato’s allegory of the cave!

I didn’t mean to get into this show#I saw them from afar and was like ew we ew ew but then I watched a couple episodes and this show is so fucked up#critique of the military industrial complex disguised as a sports anime#for context: the robots are being prepared for war but they’re beta tested as sports entertainment stars in gaming leagues#while the robots each have individual personalities they are treated as fodder and expendable#one of the robot companies has their ice hockey robots try and shoot down the protagonist robots#they tell this guy (ice hockey guy) that if u disobey the robot company commands they shock you (bad)#he’s like ummm they would never.#but then they start to get him to budge and the robot company shocks him and you watch him emote through realizing he is not free from this#and then the show goes back to having them play sports as of these robots lives aren’t inherently fucked up and tragic#and being like ‘it’s about heart! <3’#anyway I’m not even that far in but I’m having a blast
