I'm watching the clock chip away at the time,

the songs on my phone are dimmed to the buzz of background noises,

Emptiness.

Another year, another birthday spent alone.

Right now I feel nothing,

unending nothingness,

where once burned rage was unbeknownst to me, blown out like a birthday candle

But I know its for the best because after all its better to feel nothing than rage forever.

My birthday has always been fickle,

falls too close to the holidays so the defeaning silence of loneliness is one not unfamiliar.

I knew this,

I've known this for years but still a part of me hopes for a brief moment to have the birthdays you see characters have on TV

But its fiction.

And it always will be,

but still I treasure these fleeting sparks of hope,

I needed it more than I can speak.

Why should I be punished for a crime I did not commit?
