OMG thank you i totally see his character like that as well !! To anyone who is interested i recommend Aleczandxr's video "the morality of gon freecs" (i watched it a while ago but it was talking about this exact subject in a very clear way with multiple examples, i found it interesting !)

I love how Zepile’s little analysis of Gon here perfectly encapsulates Gon’s morals and sets up for his later actions. A lot of fans joke about characters meeting Gon and going “oh wow you’re actually really fucked up,” which obviously does happen but it’s rare to see someone understand him as quickly as Zepile did. Which makes sense, Zepile has built his trade off of being able to read people. That explains why this tidbit comes from him rather than someone closer to Gon

He goes on to say that Gon didn’t judge him when he learned of his shady activity, but he didn’t appear greedy either. This is what most of the fanbase gets wrong about Gon, he’s not inherently an evil person. I would describe Gon as amoral, he cares more about what interests him rather than if something is good or bad (as Zepile points out here). This is why we see him develop an attitude of “I will protect my friends and I won’t hesitate to kill anyone who doesn’t fall into that category.” I do not think of Gon as a killer, not in the way Hisoka is, but that extreme mindset comes from his lack of clear morals. This isn’t always a bad thing though, it’s also what allows him to see the best in Killua even after watching him take a guy’s heart out

Ultimately, I view this lack of morals as a reflection of Gon’s age. Despite all he’s been through, he’s still very immature in many ways (his morals being one of them). He approaches life or death situations with the same reasoning a child would have if they were put under the same circumstances. I really like that no matter how strong he gets, Togashi never lets us forget that Gon is only 12 years old. We see this very early on in the series, when his abandonment issues are shown through him developing a strong admiration and curiosity towards Ging. “I’m going to find out why my dad left me!” instead of unpacking how he feels about his dad leaving. He is so unabashedly immature about incredibly heavy subjects and I think that’s why he stands out so much as a protagonist

What if Leorio and Kurapika had met as children, because Leorio was an apprentice or something to a philanthropic doctor who came to help Pairo, what if they all became friends while he stayed there, but after he left, what if the massacre still happened, and young Leorio grieved for his dear Kurta friends who had been lost in the tragedy, but several years later, what if Kurapika still set out to avenge his family, and Leorio still needed money for medical school, so what if by chance they met again at the exam, for the first time in years?

Last night, for my birthday, I had my friends watch Hunter x Hunter with me because it’s currently one of my favorite pieces of media. One of my friends, who has never watched HxH before and has never been in ANY fandom stuff, had asked me if Leorio and Kurapika became a thing and I thought it was really funny because that was just from episode 1. And then in the episode where we meet Killua, she asked if him and gon are a thing. My friend who has never been into fandom or HxH or anything is a Leopika and Killugon shipper and i find it really funny so i wanted to share

funniest thing about gon is probably the fact that hes kinda a goated ragebaiter. hes had a "you GENUINELY piss me off" "i ate some cookies today and had some lemonade" "ARE YOU TWELVE?" interaction with everyone hes ever met at least once. except maybe kurapika but thats because theyre catastrophically close to being the same person
