there was no announcement no big proposal no heart wrenching confession hua cheng just gave his ashes to xie lian in the dead of silent night, so gently he didn’t even wake him up. tucked his very life against his beloved’s chest and left it there for safekeeping, xie lian never took it off. he hardly even questioned it, it was like it had always been there. and after all i mean, hua cheng had given xie lian his life all those hundreds of years ago, in a way it always was there.. how familiar it must have felt!!

One of the quieter tragedies of Xie Lian that I will never shut up about is that for all the centuries he roamed the world in exile, he would never encounter anyone that had the familiar accent and speech of Xianle.

The only other people that knew sounded like home were lost to him, and while he may catch the remnants in of a lilt of a word or a surviving idiom that sounded like what he grew up with, language changes so much over time that it wouldn’t be the same. Could never be the same.

How lonely.

In turn, how lovely that he was able to hear the language and syntax of his childhood by the end of the story, both his friends and lover serving as the connection across time back to Xianle.

Ie Mecha (The Brave series, Transformers, Shinkalion, etc), Mahou ShouJo (Sailor Moon), Shounen and Shounen Jump (Dragon Ball or Naruto).

Literally anything that upholds human morals and common decency.

(That, and the fact that these genres have protagonists that can beat yours in a fight any day of the week.)
