alr chat time to explain why i gave them these scars!! TW // SH (Self Harm), torture

let's start with Ruben : So, as we know, my son has Some Issues and often goes overboard...so, yeah, this mf punches so hard he breaks his knuckles often, so they've scarred. he's also punched the floor or walls if he's very frustrated, like a loser, so that adds to it. The wolf bite was him being stupid; he saw a wolf cub, was like AWW CUTIE and it bit him... the last thing is explained there, he scratches himself to the point of bleeding when he gets nervous. it's his way of coping. biting his nails, too. other little nicks and nacks arent really important, just little oopsies now, Javier : this is projecting to the max but when i used to play the knife game, i'd often fuck up by going too fast but not quite lifting the knife enough, so it'd cut the upper side of my hand...yes it hurt. other little cuts and whatnot come from that experience, too, cause i'd also often fuck up and nick my pinkie finger

the two longer nails are because my music teacher had those two nails longer to play the guitar without a pick!!

burnt w/pot because idk he's silly and i thought itd be funny if he accidentally burnt himself the cigarettes are because someone told me it's highly likely Javier's scars (specially the one on his neck) comes from torture, and i thought...what if whoever did that, put out their cigarettes on Javier's hand?

last but definitely not least; the rings! Javier bought them with hard-earned money--not robbing, more honest-ish work, he didn't want any trouble it took a lot of planning and working hard to earn them free time, but Javier planned a LOONGG date for them, and at the end 'proposed' to Ruben...it wasn't a proper proposal for a wedding, let's remember it's the 1800's and they're both immigrant men. also Javier is religious. it was more of a 'i love you and i promise to stand by your side for the rest of my life, and while i cannot marry you neither legally nor by the eyes of god, in our eyes we are tangled forever'

Ruben thought he was joking at first, which Javier wasn't amused by at all. Ruben is just very anxious and doesnt think he deserves Javi at all, so he questions everything all the time...Javier had to end up yelling over and over 'SERÁS MIO?' (WILL YOU BE MINE?) until Ruben finally accepted it

Javier wanted to get married to a woman, have an actual wedding, but he's slowly accepting the facts. does he sometimes stare at his ring and wonder if things have gone so wrong because god is punishing him for this? yeah, but maybe it's worth it

also Ruben loves sappy things like that and seeing his happy smile makes his heart flutter

I asked the person I know who uses canes and crutches about what Javier could/should use after I showed him what type of injury Javier had.

His answer was really long winded (to the point you could make a post on all the points he brought up), but he said that due to the type of injury with where Javier was shot Javier would most likely suffer with chronic pain, maybe a bit of nerve damage, and weakness due to either nonunion or malunion which would cause Javier issues weight bearing. Since it is a lower limb injury he said crutches would be better as crutches help with weight bearing a lot more than canes.

We then started looking up crutches in 1899 and the only type that was used in the US at that time was an underarm crutch as the pattern for forearm crutches was not made until 1917 and that was mainly in Europe. He said that underarm crutches could cause Javier posture issues and upper body pain which is not ideal. We also looked at canes, the big issue there is that canes were mainly used as accessories so Javier finding his perfect match would have been a difficult find as they were not fully made for support or comfortability.

Since they are outlaws it could be hard for them to find a crutch unless they rob a doctor. He did suggest that Javier could just make his own crutch/cane by having someone help him chop wood so it would be the perfect size. He also mentioned that it Javier did make his own crutch/cane it would be possible to make a forearm crutch but it would be changed slightly, so instead of the plastic ring it would be extended upwards from the handle until it branches out into a slight curve to create an arm rest as well as a belt that is attached so he could tighten it to his arm so it does not fall if he loses grip on the handle.

Javier would probably need multiple due to it not being adjustable and different heel sizes affecting the height needed with it unless Javier creates stoppers to add on to the bottom to change the height such as stoppers he could screw on.

If I can motivate myself I will try to make a post with all the points he mentioned and I will ask if he could draw out how the crutch/cane would look so it will be easier to visualise.

ooohhh your disabled javier headcanon makes me wonder if it might have pushed him away from dutch sooner because of the gang's ableism (since he's not as 'dependable' on missions anymore). i feel sick thinking about it 💔💔

ohh god that hurts...its worse because even in rdr1 Javier still tried to defend Dutch and lead John away from him (saying Dutch is in colombia when. clearly Dutch is still in the US.)

I remember a while ago seeing your idea about Javier being disabled after what happened in Guarma and I feel like it could be something that he and Mac bond over.

Due to the Pinkertons, Mac will never be able to use one of his arms properly due to how it was damaged in the gunfight when it broke while due to being shot in the leg in Guarma, Javier now can not put his full body weight on his leg or even ride horses properly due to the pain it causes with the bones not healing right.

It becomes a joke that Mac is Javier's extra leg while Javier is Mac's extra arm. If anything were to happen to their horses they just decide to get a bigger horse they both like they can ride together, with Mac doing the riding as Javier chooses the direction and does any shooting that needs to be done. Mac holds one side of the rein as Javier holds the other.

It took them months of practice to get it right with Bill and Kieran having to patch them up after any nasty falls, but in the end it works.

I do know someone who uses canes and crutches due to similar issues with pain that make it hard to walk and I know they have issues in their arms due to the pain too. I could probably ask them questions on what it is like so Javier and Mac would be more accurate and what they could use to make their lives easier. I just know that Javier would probably use a very ornate cane with lots of detailing.

i think either Javier's cane would be BEAUTIFUL im saying he asks the girls to brainstorm with him and aks (begs) Arthur to paint it, when Arthur is like 'uhh not really a PAINTER i do sketches and stuff but idk how paints work' Javier (who doesnt know much about the paint/drawing process) is like 'well idunno whatever works just please ill buy you the materials' and Arthur gives it a try (it looks wonderful, but he swears its shit)

OR he doesn't use it much cause it makes him feel lesser, useless, and/or like he doesn't deserve it, like he's not 'hurt enough' to need it and there's people who are far worse off who don't use that kind of things he tells himself he doesn't need the help and that maybe he even deserves the pain (religious guilt tells him this is gods punishment), so he doesn't use it, and will sometimes even hide it away. the others tell him he's in pain because he's being an idiot and not taking care of himself, but Javier swears he's fine (he's not)

it reaches a point where Mac sits him down and explains he understands how he feels; Mac used to be a relied on and feared gunman, one of the 'scary boys' but after his arm got fucked he can't do things like he used to. He can't carry as much weight, shooting with that hand gives him shocks of pain, etc. He tried, and failed, to 'just get over it' but realized that torturing himself just to prove he's still good enough would do no good. are they both still stubborn about it? yeah, of course, that's the kind of people they are...but if one notices the other is going too far, they'll step in and be like 'hey its enough'

This may be a weird question but what are you thoughts on the Omegaverse?

Out of context this is a very weird question, but me and my friend were joking around about the Omegaverse one time and how babies are called pups and in some depictions are shown to have fluff. We started joking around that depending on what the parents are like instead you could get cubs, whelps, hatchlings, calves, kits, pups, etc.. With each of the different kind of babies having different traits and features that make them stand out apart.

Now we assign these like they are astrology signs, so instead of he is such a Libra, it is he is such a cub that I bet his babies are to. We even did a whole thing about which RDR2 characters would give which type of babies.

It is very stupid and I thought it would be something funny to share as we had put way to much thought behind it. The idea also slightly affects the fanchildren I made in my head for FishDynamite in my next generation AU.

Rune's post should be done by tomorrow, I just have not completed it yet as I got distracted writing about the new culture and traditions for the different tribes. For some reason, my brain started hyperfixating on clothing and tattoos which is my most developed, so now they have a thing called blood staining which I can not wait to go over alongside the significance of the tattoos. I am very happy that a RDR2 x HTTYD AU has given me the chance to talk about this.

Mac is this post in the modern AU or the happy ending AU. He is very much an evil Disney princess with his stupidly weird array of animals he has collected as pets.

In the happy ending AU whenever he goes back to the US for whatever reason it may be he always comes back with a new pet. He went over to grab some herbs that either Kieran needed for horse care or Bill needed for cooking? He comes back with an old, sleepy mastiff he stole off someone who just kept it chained up in their backyard. He went back to go get Javier a surprise gift of a knife or some fancy clothes because he knows Saint Denis is constantly getting new ones? Alongside those clothes or knives is a kitten he found crying in a sewer drain after some teens had dumped it there. It is every single time to the point they ask what new pet has he stole before asking if he got what he went over for.

Even if someone goes over with him he always still brings back a pet. Normally, it is Davey who comes with him who just encourages the pet thievery as Davey just wants a reason to go steal and get a kick of adrenaline. But if the others come over too, they learnt it is best to just let Mac take the new pet instead of having to deal with his anger or guilt tripping.

It is why now you can find Mac taking his afternoon nap with his pet opossum sleeping on his chest with dogs surrounding his feet.

Do you ever add weird quirks to your OCs that does not affect their story at all but just seems fun? I want to know if Ruben has weird quirks as for me Sawyer has Synesthesia while Rune is hyper mobile which allows him to bend his body into very weird positions (he seems possessed sometimes as he takes it to the extreme). Ruben seems very interesting to me so I just want to know his random quirks.

Zark Teaches : Shapes and Tips!

the tldr is that my grandpa always thought i'd be an artist so i already had the materials...i dont even remember how i learnt, i was very young and my memory from those times is...fuzzy lets say. i used a lot of references and traced things when i didn't know how to do them properly i think, tried out shapes and such more under keep reading ->

remember, TRACING ISNT WRONG IF YOU'RE LEARNING AND SAY IT IS NOT YOUR OWN WORK!!!!!! do it for you and keep it to yourself, to learn things, to grow, but NEVER SAY SOMETHING YOU TRACED IS YOURS!!! also, using references IS NOT TRACING AND SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED, USE A BILLION REFERENCES, THEY'RE HERE TO HELP. IT IS NOT CHEATING. we reference things all the time, we draw real things, LOOK AT THOSE REAL THINGS AND THEN DRAW THEM!!!

so; look up a reference and break down things into shapes; faces are generally oval or square, noses are typically a triangle with a rectangle on it, etc etc. Most things are Shapes. Organic things tend to be wavey and round-ish, while objects tend to be straight and have sharp edges...it's a general basis, of course, there are outliers!! check things out!! once you break down these (in the example's case, a face), mix 'em all up! yay!

this is from when i tried teaching someone in magma...i traced the shapes i found in the photo, and after doing this for a while, i got my image away and tried from memory. try to keep in your memory important details, things that stand out to you. a certain mole, a big nose, a mustache, etc. once you're comfortable enough, try doing this WITHOUT TRACING, just from looking at the image and drawing beside it (if you're brave do it from just memory)...and do it over and over and over until you're bored! art takes a lot of effort and time, you will probably not see a lot of progress at first and may become frustrated, but i promise every second you spend working on it is worth it!

here's a better view... shapes -> memory -> rinse and repeat until i remembered enough things + stylizing it

stylization, in my opinion, comes naturally...maybe you find drawing something a certain way fun, or easy, so you do it like that over and over and eventually you realize holy moly i have my own style!!

these examples are all for faces, but it works out for most things; you can break down bodies into shapes, human or not, and objects too! do NOT lazy out and avoid drawing things like hands and feet, etc...i know it's frustrating, and its weird and it sucks, but its really important

A foster failure is actually a dog that was meant to be adopted by others after it has been fostered. Mac just can not let any of the dogs go so ends up keeping them all.

Mac in a modern AU would be either a vet or would run an animal shelter. He has been banned from fostering dogs as all the dogs are foster fails such as his Pitbull named Teddy Bear or his Rottweiler named Missy the Kissy. All of them have extremely cute and stupid names as Mac can not make a serious named to save his life.

as a vet he's not that great either cause he gets genuinely pissed off if someone brings an animal that has obviously not been properly cared for, he's often starting fights, so he's like always at the edge of being kicked out...but he's so good w animals and IF they're bad he takes the bites and scratches like a champ, so yk.
