DRIFTERS IN A NUTSHELL

TL;DR: silly world with floating islands, magic rocks, and plants that eat them. teenage hooligans shoot plants at ppl to take back nature :D

Drifters is my science fantasy story about rocks called aethyrs (NOT THAT AETHER SHOO GENSHIN FANS-) that fuel natural floating islands that the characters live on and are used as a a source of power and wealth. The nation of Almyr, ruled by the Shepherd, seeks to harvest as much aethyr as possible for money and power, but (similar to today’s oil industry) they are slowly destroying their world, causing islands to collapse from a lack of aethyr holding it up. Another important aspect of this world is the electrogenic florae (EF), a plant that has evolved to grow rapidly off of aethyr (the term is used both for the rocks and the energy coming from them), and also prevent aethyr, which are unstable when close together, from reacting by creating a natural power circuit through the islands. Essentially a balance of aethyr and EF is needed to keep the afloat, but Almyr harvests aethyr for energy and kills off EF to prevent it from draining aethyr, causing islands to start falling or exploding from unregulated aethyr. One day, an island on the outskirts of Almyr begins to fall (this event is called a skyfall), and off that island falls Shousuke "Sukeo" Hanaoka, our main character. Debris from the skyfall knocks them unconscious as they fall to their doom. Enter the Drifters (title drop ooooo), a group of rebels from Almyrian society dedicated to protecting nature and preventing skyfalls and catastrophe caused by Almyr. The drifters go on a rescue mission to save as many citizens from the skyfall as possible, including Sukeo, who escapes with a major concussion and scar over the nosebridge, but otherwise alright. They wake up in a drifter camp and are nursed back to health by these rebels, though they are skeptical as he has been raised their whole life believing drifters were nothing but malicious heathens with ill intention. They try to escape to Almyr a few times but again bro is seriously concussed so it fails. Eventually by the time they are capable they've spent enough time with the drifters to realize the truth of what Almyr has been doing and agrees to join their cause. As my story grows I will release more info, so stay tuned and follow my socials!
