ZZBA: The Ideal Mind
An Essay by James Jovius, Melody Armstrong, Kettil Toritoia, et al. Grand Academy of Aurum: Kinetics Department
Introduction.
In this paper, we shall outline a theoretical method by which it is possible to accidentally (or, goodness forbid, purposefully) teach a mind-controlled subject to engage in hypnomancy themselves. Further, we shall explain how such an occurrence might descend into an uncontrolled hypnomantic gestalt consciousness, which we shall call the Ideal Mind. Lastly, we shall explore what the results of such a calamitous event might entail. Obviously, we have not put our theory into practice, and through this paper we hope to set out a cautionary tale to prevent future researchers from attempting to do something similar.
Hypnomancy
Hypnomancy is, first and foremost, a very precise form of telekinesis. Through fine-tuning our extra-sensory muscles, we are able to sense even the finest neurochemical adjustments in the subject’s brain matter. Of course, simply sensing these changes is not enough; doing so is not unlike trying to read a book in a foreign language. We must first attempt to understand the logical operators, the neural language that the brain uses to communicate with itself. We can do this by focusing on the electrochemical movements within our own brain.
Through a rigorous programme of meditation, mindfulness and focused mental clarity, we are able to ‘translate’ the neural events we detect into the empirical senses we experience. Fortunately, brains are, by and large, similar enough that such internal logic translates to others’ brains as well. Once we’ve established a library of neural logical operators within ourselves, we are trivially capable to detect those same logical operators within others.
Now that we are able to understand the internal logic of another’s mental faculties, we will also be able to change them. Telekinesis is a fairly trivial form of magic, but using it on a small enough scale to adjust the internals of the brain is another matter entirely. It doesn’t take much to lobotomise a subject. Hence, hypnomancy is strictly illegal outside Academy grounds, and even in the Academy only highly advanced Adepts are allowed to practice it.
Of course, Such a magic is a recipe for terrifying abuse, which is why students of hypnomancy are closely monitored, and careers using the discipline are strictly limited to hypnomantic mental health therapy and the detection of the illicit use of hypnomancy.
Inception
Now that we have outlined the fundamentals of hypnomancy, we can explore one of the implications of its power within the subject’s mind. Usually, hypnomancy requires maximum concentration from the caster, and absolute ignorance from the subject. Any notice given to the subject will automatically and involuntarily prime the brain against tampering, and render any attempted hypnomancy futile.
However, by using certain psychoactive suppressants on the subject, such as the extract of Lichinomycetes Somnaminta (colloquially known as ‘Hypno’), these hurdles quickly disappear, making hypnomantic commands last beyond the active telekinesis by the caster. Using this “brain lag”, the hypnomancer can temporarily restructure the subject’s brain to artificially ‘understand’ how to engage in hypnomancy themselves. These effects don’t last beyond the activity of substances such as Hypno, or this technique would be an astounding, though risky method of pedagogy, not just for hypnomancy but for any knowledge at all, as we’d effectively be able to place our own expertise on any discipline within the minds of our subject.
The true danger we wish to explain in this paper is the following; What happens when both the hypnomancer and the subject are under the effects of Hypno? What happens when a hypnotically instructed subject is able to practice its newfound skills on their own hypnomancer? Through careful theory and painstakingly mapping out all the possible results of such an event, we have concluded that both the original hypnomancer and their subject would slowly fall into a mindless stupor, as there is effectively no ‘mind of its own’ instructing the hypnotised pair.
This incident would last until the effects of the Hypno wear off, after which both subjects would ‘wake up’ as if nothing happened, though almost certainly with a nasty migraine. This would be where we wish we could leave this paper, but a troublesome hypothetical emerges from this thought experiment.
Chain hypnosis
This theoretical incident would not need to be limited to reckless duos experimenting with Hypno and hypnomancy. In theory, it should be possible to chain a string of hypnotised subjects together, hypothetically of infinite length. This too should end in a painful, though harmless headache for everyone involved. However, through careful instruction by the initial hypnomancer, to not just include the method of hypnomancy, but by also providing specific logical operations, the subjects down the chain will be able to distend their mental capacities, leaving a segment of their own minds ‘empty,’ which can subsequently be filled in by further instructions from the initial hypnomancer to form part of a genuinely novel mind, connected through hypnomancy to other parts of a novel mind, to eventually form a complete, stable mental entity where none existed before. This novel, non-corporeal mind is what we call an Ideal Mind.
The Ideal Mind
To be such an incorporeal Ideal Mind would be a profoundly horrifying experience. A fresh mind with no frame of reference for existence at all, with no physical form and therefore no senses with which to understand its own existence and surroundings would result in immediate panic and paralysing fear. In its terror, the infant Ideal Mind would lash out into the minds of its ‘creators,’ taking over their thoughts and wreaking havoc in their psyches. As a being birthed from hypnomancy, it would effortlessly be able to inflict the same magic upon the minds it inhabits, leaving them vulnerable to being mind-controlled even after the effects of the Hypno subside. Further, through its inherent skills at hypnomancy, as well as the many minds it has at its disposal by the time of its inception, the Ideal Mind will be able to perform hypnomancy on any random passers-by, subsuming the unfortunate victim into its own torturous existence.
Conclusion
As far as we can tell, there is no way to rein in such an Ideal Mind, no way to control it without damaging significant parts of its psyche (in practice, by ending the lives of its unfortunate participants). We therefore must caution the reader in the strongest terms, Do Not Attempt to create an Ideal Mind. There is nothing to learn. There is nothing to gain. This paper is purely intended to serve as a cautionary tale, a warning to the extreme dangers of careless usage of a dangerous and often lethal form of magic.

ZZBA: Clappers
(cw: guns)
Page 1 of the field manual for a prototype of a clapper device, designed and crafted by Tiri and Vula Artoia
A clapper consists of and/or requires the following mechanical parts:
The stock
The Barrel
The trigger mechanism (patent pending, Vula Artoia, Master Brazier)
The Clapper Bolt (patent pending; Tiri Artoia, Master of Energetics, Vula Artoia, Master Brazier)
The Receiver (patent pending; Tiri Artoia, master of Kinetics, Vula Artoia, Master Brazier)
The Cartridge (patent pending; Tiri Artoia, master of Kinetics, Vula Artoia, Master Brazier)
The stock and the barrel are relatively basic shapes; an ergonomic interface with which to hold the mechanism of the clapper (not dissimilar to the stock of a crossbow) and a hollow cylinder with indented spirals on the inner surface, respectively.
The trigger mechanism is a much more complex, but equally mundane system of intricately crafted mechanical parts impinging on one another in such a way as to perfectly reproduce the desired effect every single time, namely the "clapping" of the bolt onto the receiver.
The clapper Bolt is where the magic happens. The bolt is cylindrical from the outside, but has a cone-shaped indent internally. Made of pure copper, the inside of the bolt is carved out with fractally reoccurring patterns, down to infinitesimally small recursions of the same shape. The fractal is designed in such a way that whenever a fluid (either liquid or gaseous) is forced into the cone, the force by which it enters the cone is "echoed" back to the "open" side of the cone after a short moment (usually no longer than .2 seconds), producing a directed pulse of force (and distinctively loud 'thunderclap' sound), much larger than was inserted in the first place.
The trigger mechanism slowly pulls the Clapper bolt back, and then rapidly slaps it forward onto the receiver. the forward motion forces air into the bolt, and the resulting "Clap" has nowhere to go but back into the receiver, onto the awaiting Cartridge.
The Receiver is milled from pure Titanium, an extremely rare elemental metal that perfectly 'bounces' any arcane energy off itself, like a magical mirror, which means that none of the Clap's energy is lost to the receiver, and the entire force is perpetuated directly into the bullet.
the Cartridge is made up of two parts; the copper 'butt' and the lead bullet. The clap is forced onto the cartridge's copper butt, which further conducts and amplifies the kinetic force onto the lead bullet, which is suddenly and violently propelled forward through the barrel, where the indented 'rifling' creates a 'spin' onto the bullet, allowing for a more steady and accurate trajectory after the bullet leaves the barrel. The cartridge butt remains in the receiver chamber, and needs to be manually ejected in order for another cartridge to be loaded.
The Clapper Bolt will eventually degrade as the kinetic forces start bending the fragile fractal shapes out of position, and will need to be re-smithed after 200 rounds.

ZZBA: The Drow
Recorded excerpt from a lecture by Orox Khan, Master of Biomics at the Auran Academy
"Last week, we studied and discussed the way in which elven biology manages to leverage the energies of the Divine plane to maintain ageless immortality. This week, we will consider what happens when an elf reproduces with one of us mere mortals.
Half-elves of any ancestry struggle with what many would call a doomed fate. The immortality of their elven parent does manifest itself in a half-elf, but it fails to do so perfectly. After all, it has to contend with the decidedly mortal blood of the other parent's lineage, whatever that may be.
Eventually, depending on the ancestry of the mortal parent, the half-elf's body will start to deteriorate. At some point, they will begin to age. However, their immortal lineage does not give up easily. A half-elf won't simply pass away from old age. They will simply keep aging, forever!
Most half-elves don't subject themselves to this fate, though. Many would rather end their lives in the same embalming rite some full-blooded elves undergo once they've had their fill of life. In fact, back when Iridia had a king this was mandatory for half-elves who turned 200 years of age, regardless of their heritage! This may sound like a cruel and harsh policy, but it was not established without reason.
For if a half-elf chooses to remain alive, their mind will start to diminish at some point, too. This process can be slowed or even halted through vigorous biomic magic, but never reversed. Eventually, a half-elf will turn feral. These feral, mindless half-elves, we call the Drow.
A drow is a dangerous creature, able to manifest destructive necrotic magic and terrifyingly strong to boot. The armed forces of Iridia have a dedicated task force to find and destroy any drow they come across, and while I doubt any of you will run into one here in the city, you should always remember to bring an Auran signal medallion if you head into the countryside!
Despite this harrowing fate, some half-elves still choose to try to stay alive as long as possible. There are communities of half-elves deep in the Iridian mountain range who have dedicated their days towards the singular purpose of sustaining themselves. Most of the time they manage, but if their work ever falters they will quickly succumb to their doom...
As homework, adepts, you are to read about the Drow invasion of Ferrous of 1281, and the innovative magic used by Grand Magus Anaryë to eventually reclaim the city. Thank you for listening, and I will see you all next week!"

Worldbuilding (for DnD and suchlike)
I'm gonna be posting a bunch of *lore* for the homebrew DnD world I've been running my campaigns in on here. I haven't actually written most of it down so I might as well put it here so both me and all my friend can read it at our leasure.
Its mostly gonna be the boring stuff that doesn't actually matter that much for the story I'm telling in the campaigns like history, politics, religion and magic stuff.
You know, things nobody but the DM cares about.
I've collectively named the stories I'm telling in DnD "ZoZo's Bizarre Adventure" so if a post starts with "ZZBA" then you know its about my DnD stuff.
Cheers!

Hello, I'm here now.
Its me Zoey Béchamel you may know me from such things as my friend group or indeed my social environment more generally.
I received a threat upon my life by my friend Lydia for not having a tumblr account yet so here we go. I might post things on here, and if I do it'll be about me GMing in TTRPGs, or about video games or movies, and maybe if I'm feeling spicy I'll talk about being transgender or (god forbid) politics.
If I do not post on here, do not worry! I'm probably posting somewhere else. If you want me to post about something on Tumblr, you can reach me on discord and I'll probably get around to it. If you can't reach me on discord, that's because I don't know you and you'll just have to come to terms with that.
So there you have it. Please enjoy my One Post. Maybe soon there'll be others.
