Nate's mental health headcanons

This post was inspired by @nukacoola post about the PTSD the sole survivor would have seen the bombs. So I wanted to try and write more about my sole survivor, Nate's mental health. Spoiler alert, it's down the drain.

Content warning for depression, PTSD, and generally bad mental health. Obviously, I'm not a mental health professional, this was just a chance to talk more about my fallout oc. Hope you enjoyed!

Before the bombs drop:

-His face was badly deformed after he was severely injured in the war, leading to him being socially isolated before the bombs dropped. (And it is the main reason why nowadays he always wears a mask of some kind.)

-Because of this, he would go weeks without saying a word to anyone.

-After he met his husband, Saul. He managed to get some help. Like getting a service dog, a golden retriever, he called Goldie.

After the bombs drop:

-Always feels cold. It got better after leaving the vault. When he first got out, he felt like his fingers were going to freeze off. Now he just feels a mild sense of chilliness.

-Develop claustrophobia after Vault 111. He learn this after Vault 81 offered him a room, after he tried to sleep, and he had a massive pain attack.

-Adding to this, he doesn't sleep. Only really takes lots of small naps throughout the day. Just enough to keep him awake and short enough to keep him from having nightmares.

-Has a lot of recurring nightmares. A common one is that his in a binding white light room with several blacked-out figures observing him while his strapped down on a bed, giving birth to Shaun. A very messy birth as well. blood everywhere.

-Really bad personal hygiene, doesn't have the energy to clean himself or brush his teeth most days. The closest thing he had to a bath was just washing dry blood off his hands for a couple of months.

-Talks about things that happened 200 years ago as if they happened yesterday.

-Always counting the number of bullets in his head to an obsessive degree.

-Can't enter his old house; he boarded up all the windows, trash is scattered everywhere, and most of the furniture is flipped over.

-The only room in his old house that is remotely livable is Shaun's old room. All the trash is cleaned out to make room for all the little toys Nate collects for when he brings Shaun home.

-That's until he went to the institute and found out the truth about Shaun.

-After he gets back to Sanctuary, he walks into Shaun's room and destroys everything with his bare hands. Expect Shaun's crib, which seems to be indestructible.
