Aisha bint Abu Bakr: Mothers of the Faithful
Aisha’s (RA) life is mere proof of the strength and resilience of women and the extraordinary feats they are capable of.
The story of Aisha bint Abu Bakr (RA) is one of knowledge, strength, courage, and companionship. She was the youngest wife of our beloved Holy Prophet (PBUH), a devout Muslim, a reputable scholar, an educator, a leader and a source of great knowledge for Muslims and non-Muslims across the globe. She remains an extraordinary role model for women to this day, owing to her strong character and zeal, along with her endless contributions to the development of Islam, Islamic tradition, its interpretation, and transmission. And most importantly, she held a great place in the heart of our Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Narrated Amr bin al-Aas (RA):
I came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said, “Who is the most beloved person to you?” He said, “Aisha.” I asked, “Among the men?” He said, “Her father” (Sahih Bukhari 5:57:14)
Aisha (RA) was born to the Holy Prophet’s closest companion, Abu Bakr (RA) and Umm Roman (RA), in 614 CE. As a result, she grew up in a Muslim household in Mecca as her father was one of the earliest converts of Islam. Aisha (RA) showcased great intelligence and an eagerness to learn from a very young age. On one occasion during her childhood which is narrated by Aisha (RA) herself:
When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) arrived after the expedition to Tabuk or Khaybar (the narrator is doubtful), the draught raised an end of a curtain which was hung in front of her store-room, revealing some dolls which belonged to her. He asked: What is this? She replied: My dolls. Among them he saw a horse with wings made of rags, and asked: What is this I see among them? She replied: A horse. He asked: What is this that it has on it? She replied: Two wings. He asked: A horse with two wings? She replied: Have you not heard that Solomon had horses with wings? She said: Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) laughed so heartily that I could see his molar teeth (Sunan Abu Dawud 43:160).
This only exhibits the sharpness of mind and wit that Aisha (RA) possessed since she was a child. The match of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Aisha (RA) was made in the Heavens and was by Divine decree. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) saw Aisha (RA) in his dreams as a divine revelation:
Narrated by `Aisha (RA):
Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said to me, “You were shown to me twice (in my dream) before I married you. I saw an angel carrying you in a silken piece of cloth, and I said to him, ‘Uncover (her),’ and behold, it was you. I said (to myself), 'If this is from Allah, then it must happen.’ Then you were shown to me, the angel carrying you in a silken piece of cloth, and I said (to him), 'Uncover (her), and behold, it was you. I said (to myself), 'If this is from Allah, then it must happen’”(Sahih Bukhari 91:30).
Thereafter, Khawlah bint Hakeem (RA) suggested the marriage proposal to Abu Bakr (RA), who happily conceded and so did the Prophet (PBUH). Soon after, Aisha (RA) became the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) youngest and third wife. The marriage, however, was only consummated once she reached puberty. She was most beloved amongst the wives of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and was known to be his favorite.
The relationship between the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and Aisha (RA) was of great love, affection, playfulness, and intimacy. According to hadith traditions, they used to race each other and the Prophet (PBUH) would sometimes let her win when she was young, but she also bested him on occasions later on. The Prophet (PBUH) also received several revelations while they were lying under the same blanket in tranquility- she was the only wife with whom revelations were sent in such circumstances- and it was her chambers that he wished to be moved to when he felt death approaching.
Once, when Aisha (RA) accompanied the Prophet (PBUH) on one of his caravans, she left the camp to relieve herself and by the time she returned, the caravan had packed up and left. She found herself stranded in the desert. She then stumbled upon Safwan bin Mauttal, who was in charge of trailing behind the caravan to gather the leftovers. He recognized her and asked her to ride on his horse whilst he walked beside her to escort her back to the caravan safely. The unbelievers saw this as an opportunity to spread rumors of adulteration regarding Aisha (RA) and accused her of immoral acts. Even the Prophet (PBUH) became overwhelmed by the sheer intensity of the circulating rumors.
However, Allah (SWT) came to Aisha’s (RA) aid and proved her innocence once and for all through revealing the verses 11-20 of Surah Al-Nur in the Holy Quran, putting the rumors to rest.
In 11 AH, the Prophet (PBUH) fell severely sick. During his sickness, he preferred the company of Aisha (RA) and it was in her arms when he breathed his last. She was only 18 at the time.
Narrated by Aisha (RA):
During his sickness, Allah’s Apostle was asking repeatedly, “Where am I today? Where will I be tomorrow?” And I was waiting for the day of my turn (impatiently). Then, when my turn came, Allah took his soul away (in my lap) between my chest and arms and he was buried in my house” (Sahih Bukhari 2:23:471).
She continued to contribute to Islam even after his death. Having grown up with the Prophet (PBUH) and having lived in close proximity to him, she had the chance to observe his sayings and actions very closely. Owing to her sharp memory, she became the fourth highest narrator of hadith of the Prophet (PBUH) and narrated up to 2000+ hadith. Several of the authentic ahadith found today stem from her. Scholars believe that one-fourth of the Shariah principles were narrated on Aisha’s (RA) authority and she was consulted on matters of law and religion by the caliphs on multiple occasions- such was her knowledge. She took an active part in educational reforms and acquired many students under her guidance as well.
Her life took a drastic turn when Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) became the fourth Caliph of Islam. Aisha (RA) wanted to avenge the death of Uthman ibn Affan (RA), the third Caliph, and bring the killers to justice, hence, she took up arms against Ali (RA) in the Battle of Camel. She faced defeat and thereafter retreated to Medina and retired from her public positions from then on. She then spent most of her time in religious transmission, interpretation, and formulation of Islamic law.
Aisha (RA) passed away on the 17th of Ramadan, 58 AH. She was 66 years of age and was buried in Jannatul-Baqi.
Aisha’s (RA) life is mere proof of the strength and resilience of women and the extraordinary feats they are capable of. Her life is a proof of that fact that leadership and inspiration are irrespective of gender roles. She was a champion of Islam and a shining example in the history of Islam. She remains, to this day, the “mother of the faithful” and does justice to her title.

some of you tumblr folks have become so obsessed with denouncing “abusive relationships” in fiction that you focused too much on the “abusive” part and forgot about the “relationship” bit.
an abusive relationship is a relationship in which one of the halves uses the feelings and/or the dependency of the other half as leverage to hurt and manipulate them. the very relationship between them is weaponized against the victim, hence “i’m only hurting you out of love” or “do as i say or you don’t actually love me”.
a dynamic in which two characters openly hate each other and charge against each other on a battlefield with swords or guns because they’re on opposite sides of some conflict that’s larger than either of them cannot be considered an abusive relationship because it lacks the “relationship” part. there’s no intimacy here. and their antagonism is often not entirely personal and largely attributed to what those characters stand for in the universe of the story, rather than who they are as people. one of the greatest appeals about enemies to lovers is the irony of two people who would be perfect for each other if only the circumstances around them did not propel them to clash, and the subsequent shedding of all of their outer layers of upbringing and prejudices until they reach the revelation that deep down they’re actually not that different after all. if those characters were ever to put down their differences and get into a relationship, and still treat each other like crap while in a relationship, *then* you would be able to call them an abusive ship, but the way they’re trying to disembowel each other with swords in a duel says very little about what kind of dynamic they’d have as a couple because, at the moment, they’re not a couple (or even friends for that matter). they’re as far from a romantic couple as two people can get, and the very first step for them to become romantically involved would be getting over the very thing that’s causing them to try and disembowel each other with swords in first place. you can’t just fucking… disregard context and circumstances here and simply hold the way two characters treat each other as enemies against a hypothetical romance those characters might have upon future character developments.
this is why people don’t understand when fans of edgy enemies-to-lovers pairings express distaste for when characters in a “soft” friends-to-lovers ship commit mild faults like negging one another or doing shit behind each others’ back, when their own ships have literally tried to murder each other, but it’s actually very simple: enemities are not supposed to be functional and healthy, but friendships, like romances, are. the crap two people pull to one another as friends is a bigger red flag for a bad relationship than the crap people pull towards one another as sworn enemies. with enemies you can make a case that, in different circumstances, those people could have a healthy and functional relationship had they decided to put their differences aside and pursue a friendship/romance, but you can’t say the same for characters who are canonically friends and canonically treat each other poorly as friends.

Just ended up rewatching the show and captured this moment where Katara keeps her hand at the back of Zuko while watching Azula to ensure him her support after he gets hurt, and this made my heart flutter because she knows that for Zuko seeing his sister turning into a maniac can be a difficult thing (even though they were rivals, but the sibling thing is still there). This feels genuine and intimate at the same time (don’t underestimate the fact that they legit seem like a couple here).
P.S: Sorry for the poor quality of image since it was a fleeting moment & I captured it on a whim.

Critics: Zutara is a toxic ship!
Meanwhile the truth:
Mai being an emotionally distant person expects a lot from Zuko and never really tries to understand his struggles, even in doing so, she seems more of the self-obsessed type as there are gradual bumps in their relationship in the comics.
On the contrary, we have Katara who understands how Zuko must be feeling after parting his ways with Uncle Iroh and assures him that he’s going to forgive him. It’s because of Katara, we find Zuko accepting his flaws for the first time and attaining the much-needed closure. I personally felt that Zuko feels the safest when he’s with Katara because she brings out the best of him.

Hello dear readers,
I recently provided my amazing batch of literature with the task of creating a “Postmodern literary magazine focussing upon the Pakistani settings”. My students have worked up on creating a literary piece consisting of poems, short stories, reviews, critical essays and an interview. It would be amazing if you could read their works and appreciate their craft for they have worked really hard, not merely for securing marks in their project, but to put their inner creativity at a display and work on the narratives that are pretty much Pakistani in their spirit, but depict their postmodern and cyberpunk-ish nature influenced by the global trends.
P.S: “The very title of the magazine; The Pakistani Pallette”, reflects a subtle wordplay where in the word Pallette the second L is an indicative of the French phrase “la mode” or “la modre” thus referencing to something that’s adapted from the modern.
Please go through it and let me know what you think of the amateur but highly talented writers in making.

I’ve been reading this HadesxPersephone retelling where Hades fell in love with ‘Sephone first but she fell harder. Reminds me of our Zutara. Makes me wonder if someone could draw Zuko & Katara as Hades & Persephone!!! 😭 Also, the duology’s name is Heart of Hades & Queen of Night by Katherine MacDonald.
Edit: Everyone please check out this amazing Zutara art
I loved this!!!

After being interrupted, Zuko and Katara lock eyes in the Crystal Catacombs
Tumblr media
A redraw of one of my favorite Zutara pieces~
I've always loved the whole Crystal Catacombs scene. From the intimate vulnerability to the understanding, acceptance, and tendernes, and finally, to the series of moments that prompt the question, what if?
I especially like this moment - the calm before all those rushed decisions. I imagine the two of them often coming back to this point in their heads. Katara questioning her decision to run to Aang when Zuko was the one who needed her, and Zuko wondering where everything went so wrong.
