German Design Award 2015 Winner ✔
We are proud to announce that we’re one of the winners of the German Design Award 2015 by the German Design Council („Rat für Formgebung“) with our work Praehistorica Catalog 2012.
Take a look at the online-gallery:
http://gallery.designpreis.de/gdagallery/show/Project/praehistorica-katalog-2012.html
Juror Statement (Prof. Dr. Erik Spiekermann, Jens Grefen & Burkhard Remmers):
The catalogue for Praehistorica, an institute for the assessment, recovery, and preparation of fossil finds, is intended to fill the gap between scholarly documentation and private collectors. To this end it presents the fossils as though they were pieces of art, skilfully combining this with basic paleontological insights and explanatory info-graphics. Perforations make it easier to take out and archive individual pages. An impressive work, which makes the world of paleontology accessible for amateur collectors as well without forfeiting the science in the process.

Vom Objekt zur Kulturgeschichte
Over the past few months we worked together with the Institute for Archaeological Sciences (Goethe-University Frankfurt) on the exhibition „Vom Objekt zur Kulturgeschichte. Wie Archäologen arbeiten“. The exhibition tries to take you on the archaeologists journey of discovery. It shifts perspectives from the object culture of presenting an object just for its aesthetics and as a historically charged symbol to really understanding and reading a cultural object within its context.
October 21st 2014 – March 31st 2015
Goethe-University Frankfurt
Opening: October 21st 2014, 4 PM
You can download the digital program over at:

False Sentimentale
Zum Jahresende präsentiert der Kunstverein Fulda in seinen Räumlichkeiten in der Kanalstraße 52 mit „False Sentimentale“ eine Gruppenausstellung junger Künstlerinnen und Künstler aus Berlin, Hamburg, Karlsruhe und Leipzig, die in Fulda geboren bzw. aufgewachsen sind.
Eröffnung: 23. Dezember 2013, 19 Uhr
Musik: Jonas Wehner (www.facebook.com/WARMGRAVES)
KÜNSTLERINNEN:
Christoph Both-Asmus
Jaane Christensen
Marco Dorn
Sebastian Ebenberger
Annika Gutsche
Sebastian Pless
Jakob Schmitt
Kathrin Spirk
Kuratiert von Regine Ehleiter
Grafikdesign: Oleg Svidler (www.zweizehn.com)

DIN Decapt on ARTE Creative
From today on our video performance project 'DIN Decapt' will be shown on ARTE Creatives 'THE PITCH!'
Please go head to http://creative.arte.tv/de/magazin/pitch-6-fahrtwind-vs-din-decapt spread the word and vote for our project to win THE PITCH! within the next 3 weeks!
THE PITCH:
'THE PITCH!'s concept is to take two somehow familiar video works of young artists and designers and letting them compete with each other, introducing them to a wider audience via ARTEs broadcast.
Volume 6 of this ARTE Creative series is all about type, comparing our Otl Aicher inspired 'decapitalization' of the DIN MIttelschrift with Jens Schittenhelms and Christoph Palissas aerodynamic Fahrtwind font.
THE IDEA OF DIN DECAPT:
Referring to Jan-Albert Pools “DIN 1451 / The first german corporate typeface?” and Otl Aichers “Capitals and Nouns” we decapitated the world famous DIN 1451 Mittelschrift as a play on words on the occasion of the AfterSchoolClub 2012. Since Jan-Albert Pool described the DIN as the first german corporate typeface it felt only natural to decap this symbol of hierachy in the sense of Otl Aichers theory on capitals and nouns.
“Decapitation has been used as a form of capital punishment for millennia. The terms ‘capital offence’, ‘capital crime’, ‘capital punishment’, derive from the Latin caput, ‘head’, referring to the punishment for serious offenses involving the forfeiture of the head; i.e., death by beheading.”
from wikipedia the free encyclopedia
“The last major change in the structure of German occured some 300 years ago when nouns were accorded capital letters. Nouns were raised in status, and from then on there existed different classes of words. Nouns, sometimes referred to in German as ‘main’ or ‘capital’ (i.e. ‘head’) words, were top of the pecking order, then came verbs, then adjectives…”
from “Capitals and Nouns” by Otl Aicher, 1989
DIN Decapt was realized together with our mates Timothy Schaumburg, Troy Kreiner and Vladyslav Dmytriv.
