russ never thought he'd end up anywhere other than pasadena. born and raised there, he had a pretty normal childhood. he really took an interest in golfing, and begin playing and caddying once he was old enough. it was the one constant in his life. russ wanted to make it big. he even went to college and golfed for a division one school.

right before he went pro, he ended up tearing his rotator cuff and developing achilles tendinitis from years of use. going back home with nothing but a degree and sadness, he had to figure out what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. there was no back up plan.

so he distracted himself. he went to coyote valley to bring brianna back home. maybe there'd be one happy ending and he could reunite the family. instead, he made himself at home. it was better to run away from his feelings and the shame that he felt at home.

he ended up getting a job at the country club, and twenty years later, he's still there, making sure the golf course is up to par. at least he still has golf in his life.

he still sometimes thinks about what could've been if he didn't get hurt, but when that happens, he grabs a cigarette or a beer. conceal don't feel.

Begin Again

I have had this in my drafts for 16 months. Regardless of writing it is an important song in Haylor lore and one I love so it took time. Taylor has said she started Begin Again in March 2011, that takes out every public theory for who the 'nice guy is'. Personally I hear it as Harry, but granted it is started long before they were seen at the Kids Choice.

The music video

I'll start by saying the video is directed by the same person as Everything Has Changed (released later 6 June 2013), which has footage of Paris in the classroom scene. For any other Taylor ship, especially if she was dating the guy at the time, I could say so they are about about the same person. The end. But the rules are different for Haylor so settle in for 1000+ more words.

The Begin Again video was shot in Paris on 30 September 2012 and released 23 October 2012 - that is a crazy turn around for a Taylor video. Taylor's schedule (see 2012) was packed for Red's release too, she had a fan event in Nashville on the 29th and press in London on the 5th October. But she still crammed in this video for a slow song as a second lead single. Harry randomly appeared in LA on the 1st October then both in London. The first photo of them together was on the 7th October. So just as Haylor started dating begin again became what seemed a late decision single.

Paris

Paris is special to both Harry and Taylor. Taylor has this weird quote from Pop Crush where it reads like she didn't finish a sentence, "it's just the city...???"

“Like, a love letter to Paris. ’Cause it’s just the city and this story line of somebody moving on and finding yourself again. … I think we’ve all had that day where we just decide to wander around and think about things.”

In 2022 the video Director said it was set in Paris because his wife was due to have their baby. OK... but why that director if the video was shot in a 4 day weekend gap for release in 4 weeks time.

And Taylor has made Paris the whole aesthetic of the song, she performed it in Paris, at the CMA awards she also gave it a French intro and set and it is the taymoji set, except for "I Can Fly!" A reference to CBBH and of course a later Harry 1D song. Again, this is enough for other ships.

On 16 March she visited Neuschwanstein Castle which later appeared in the Bejewelled Music Video. She wrote about this and said "my life is so beautiful right now" arriving in Paris in the Lover Journal.

March 17, 2011 Paris France, the first time she played the Soul Sister mash up.

March 19, 2011 Madrid Spain, and

March 22 - 30, 2011 England & Ireland. This included Wednesday 23 March when she wore a white dress and high heels, later that day she played a Radio 2 concert at Abbey Rd which included the mash up of Soul Sister with Fearless. Harry was also in London.

Said she wrote songs in Milan and Ireland. 8 months before March 2011 is when she broke up with John Mayer. She dated Jake for 7 weeks ending in December, only 3 months before she started Begin Again.

Taylor has spoken about Begin Again a few times, on 17 October 2012 at the VH1 Story Tellers event she said it is about being yourself after a break up. She is incredibly hesitant talking about it in the Red Track by Track (11 mins below) she says it is about a first date after a bad break up and being open to being OK:

However she has also said she put the song down and picked it up several times. It is about recovering from a relationship with someone who is withholding and makes her feel less than. In the lead up to Red's release Taylor Nation shared this throw back of Taylor recording in Bluebird Studios Nashville, which is where Begin Again, Red & Starlight were recorded. It is generally though she is playing Begin Again here because she is playing Cadd9 chord which features in Begin Again. With her fringe cut and being in Nashville means this was likely taken around her birthday when she posted this photo of red shoes. As we know it was started 9 months sooner this was recording or work on it (and Red). Red and Begin Again also have the same credits.

March 2011

Harry was in England when the Speak Now Tour was in Europe. Taylor also started playing Harry's X-factor audition song in the Paris show onward. They also both played the O2 the same week. I'll leave this there, but have a post on that.

Taylor highlighted the high heels in the People Country post and told a story of going to meet friends and deciding to wear heels. The heels may be literal, Jake is short, however I think real or not they are a metaphor for feeling she is allowed to not make herself smaller. After dating older guys who put her down she’s standing tall.

Turn the lock and put my headphones on He always said he didn't get this song But I do, I do

I love the put my headphones on, it continues the story of getting to walk out to see friends on her own, and the metaphor holds for shutting out her ex’s negative thoughts. Love. A nice call back to WANGBT’s line about indie record.

This line reminds me of Harry, he’s known for his manners. Her expectations have been lowered by previous disappointments, she expects tardiness or indifference. But the new person surprises her by being present and kind. It’s a soft, healing contrast.

You pull my chair out and help me in And you don't know how nice that is But I do

Simple gestures chivalrous, thoughtful take on deep meaning because they were absent in the past. The line “you don’t know how nice that is” reminds me of the dinner scene in the ATW10MV

And you throw your head back laughing Like a little kid I think it's strange that you think I'm funny, 'cause He never did

This laugh line also brings Harry to mind. This moment is disarming and tender. Laughter, especially childlike laughter, represents trust and ease. She’s startled by the idea that someone might genuinely enjoy her company. There’s a quiet mourning in the comparison, but also awe.

8 months before March 2011 is June 2010, the guy that broke and burned love is John Mayer.

This chorus is the emotional heart of the song. The phrase “break and burn, and end” is weary, rhythmic, almost ritualistic, like she’s repeated it to herself many times. The final line simple and small marks a shift. Love doesn’t return in fanfare, but in quiet moments over coffee. It begins again with stillness and care.

Now they’re finding shared ground music again, this time not a point of tension, but connection. James Taylor is gentle, classic, nostalgic perfectly fitting the tone of new beginnings.

Harry likes James Taylor too, in 2015 he tweeted James Taylor Lyrics to Mexico:

I feel like the Two Ghosts line “Telling those stories we already told” is a call back to this.

me ? late as per usual to posting any kind intro several days after acceptances ?? yeah it's more likely than you think, but i digress. hello ! my name is jae ( she/they, est, 25+ ) and i am bringing to you my nosy little journalist who literally can't keep his nose out of anything if he tried: jeong eunjae ! known for his articles on various media including movies and television shows, the review he had started on the movie during filming has since remained unfinished and to be honest that has never sat with well with him, so like everyone he's back to figure out what the hell is going on ! below is essentially word vomit about him while i'm still fleshing him out. i prefer disc*rd for plotting, so feel free to ask me for my username, thanks !!!

𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 !

born and raised in seoul, south korea by a single father. eunjae was the product of college love that went completely wrong between his parents. his mother was far from the type of person who should ever have a child with her flighty, temperamental nature that never kept her in one place for long. by the time she knew she was pregnant, they had already broken up and when the time came of his birth, she all but dumped him on his doorstep with only an ultimatum that if he didn't take him then she would leave him at shitty orphanage somewhere.

despite the new pressure of a baby he did not know was coming, eunjae's father adapted and worked hard to finish his degree while taking care of a newborn child. his mother hadn't even deigned to name him, and so he named him eunjae. those first few years bonded him to his son and often his nights of studying including having him at his side in a crib while he as flooded under schoolwork and papers. the determination to become successful now not only for himself but also for eunjae.

as he was growing up, it was obvious that eunjae had taken on so many of his mother's facial features. essentially beginning to look a male version of the woman that he would never come to know in his life. to this day, eunjae has never met his mother, having only seen old photos he had found in one of his father's closets some years back, but as time would go one it would show that he hadn't just inherited her looks but bits of her personality.

from the moment he learned what it was, a television, eunjae became hooked. some of his first words as a toddler, after father and dad of course, was remote or television. with his father working a low-level associate lawyer, it was all too easy to hand the remote to him when he was busy so that eunjae would be distracted enough till he got bored or hungry.

even as he grew older and was school age, he would hurry home so that he could breeze through whatever homework he had and plant himself in front of their television again and again for whatever new show or movie was going to be playing that he was interested in.

after media, his second love would come to be writing. finding articles online about the tv shows he was adored or was interested in, scouring sites upon sites of news and information and he was surprised that people could make money this way. it became the only future he could see for himself, being a journalist and writing the kind of stories that people would want to read.

in his late teenage years, his father would finally fall in love again and get married to a woman. she was nice enough to him and seemed to want to get to know him but that was short lived and some part of eunjae felt it would happen, especially the moment she became pregnant and from then on it became about her child, a half-sibling for eunjae whom he would never grow close to.

his father's focus shifted a lot but eunjae thought it was okay, he was finishing school and going into college soon and he knew that his father loved her even if it made him begin to feel that loneliness that would grow over the years. his father could finally have his happy little family but eunjae wouldn't stick around to be a part of it.

eventually he enrolled at seoul national university on a scholarship and ended up majoring in journalism, creative writing, and english. a major that kept him very very busy during that time to the point that he rarely visited his father, missed his calls when he wanted to check in, and all in all distanced himself even more. it's not that he really wanted to but it was hard to see himself apart of the new life his father would have.

on top of his already busy schedule, eunjae became a part of the university's newsletter team which allowed him to get a true start on his writing. it was the beginning of his examples that he could one day show on his resume especially so when he was applying for an internship right before the summer of his final year in college. impressed with his hard work as an intern and his ability to write engaging articles, he was eventually offered a position as a content writer assistant for that major news site in south korea he had interned at.

a lot of his early writing for the site was based around media, articles about upcoming projects, castings, and eventually what he became known for by the timing of the filming of 'the mask of all hearts' were his reviews of both popular movies and tv shows as well as those who were more indie or even cult classic status. and at some point before the filming of 'the mask of all hearts' he was promoted to a more senior content writing position.

with all this in mind, it is probably why sanguine studios reached out to him through his employer and set up for him to visit the set of the filming, likely hoping that a review he would write would be quite favorable for when the movie was finally released.

𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 !

eunjae could have gotten away with visiting the set of the production a few times, but after he was assigned to this project he ended up binge-reading all the issues, watching the previous movies, and doing some research beforehand on the previous production. he had never been the type not to put his all into something that he was doing and this would be no different.

he could be see often around the set, watching filming, interviewing both staff and cast alike on various different things; how they felt about the past movies, the volumes and issues, how filming was treating them, any and everything to the point that some people probably got tired of seeing him around.

his natural curiosity would often got the best of him, causing him to sneak around the lot and poke his nose in offices that he probably wasn't allowed to but luckily he didn't get caught somehow by security or anyone else, perhaps it helped he tended to do it at night when there less people around in the dark studio lot.

those late nights are when he thought the empty set was at its most creepy, every sound was suspicious, every movement in the corner of his eye a possible trick of the light but he eventually he would creeped out to a point he had to leave. but even to this day there was something that never felt quite right when he was there.

𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 !

the abrupt end of filming was shocking to everyone, everyone kicked out of the set so quickly and no one was more suspicious than eunjae. at that point he had began to write his article but until he was invited to view the movie before it was released he couldn't finish it. and so he waited and waited, and when that call never came in what he thought would be the company to edit the film, he was forced to move on.

since then he has had to move on to new projects and has been dabbling in trying to get out of his comfort zone and write on different topics. trying for more hard-hitting stuff to show that he's more than just a media journalist but it hasn't been as easy nor has his new stuff gotten as much attention or views.

but everyday when he opens up his laptop and navigates to the folder that has his writing, his eyes always gravitate to the document titled 'wip the mask of all hearts', and it would always bother him that it was incomplete, that he wasn't able to publish it. and it never quite helped that his publisher has been on his case to find out something so that he can release it but until now despite his inquiries and searching he's not been able to come up with anything until now.

with the news of a reality tv show bringing together the cast and crew of the movie as well as possible upcoming release of the movie, eunjae is more determined than ever to figure out what the hell was happening during filming, why the studio went silent so suddenly, and why now of all times that they were hosting a reality show before the release of the movie.

𝙩𝙞𝙙𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙨 !

very much the type of person stand in a crowded room and just casually eavesdropping on conversations but somehow does it so casually that no one knows that he is? very observant that way and pretty perceptive of his surroundings which does help him in his snooping for his writing.

kind of nerd if it wasn't obvious since he's really into movies and tv shows and is a casual gamer at times, nothing too serious that warrants him having like a huge setup, but his laptop is pretty comparable to a gaming one.

diagnosed with anxiety and depression in his teens and has been on medication for them for a while now. he handles it much better than he did in his youth but he still has occasional issues or episodes as a result of them.

big lover of sweets, will literally eat any kind of dessert that you put in front of him. if he's wanting to snack or craving something he'll always reach for sweet treat.

says that he doesn't believe in the supernatural or ghosts or any of that spooky stuff despite watching a lot of horror movies, but even he thinks something was definitely off at the set of the movie production.

𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙩𝙨 !

a fling from the set ( male preference ) - someone he connected with on set and for whatever reason they found an attraction to each other and started sleeping together. how or why it ended after filming is up for plotting and maybe it would fun if it ended badly with lingering feelings and all that good angsty stuff?

a close friend made on set - a friend made on set that maybe snuck around with eunjae when he was snooping around.

someone he just did not get along with - enemies, snark, just in general all the sarcasm to each other!

maybe a friend from childhood - a friend he didn't expect to see on set but ended up surprising him when he found out. whether they were still close or not is up for plotting.

Episode 7 of AAA is very cathardic on its own, good episode of television, 10/10, only reason its below episode 4 on my list is just because Alice is my favorite and I'm still bitter about episode 5.

When you think about the rest of marvel though, it becomes very funny and ironic.

Because in the comics basically no one stays dead except for the original captain marvel, and theres a whole myriad of reasons that can happen in story. On a meta level though, it's so they can keep some sort of status quo. And in the mcu, they were a little better about dead characters staying dead, but that was kinda thrown out the window with endgame and the intro to the multiverse and timeline fuckery. Because now they can kill a character, but bring in an alternate version of them who did none of the character development, so you can take them in a completely different direction. And they've done so multiple times. Even RD jr can come back even though they tried to make iron man's death very impactful. And with them seemingly moving to focus more on mutants eventually now that disney knows it'll make them money and not fox, I would not be surprised if they tried to eventually get to the krakoa era and the weird revival pools where charles gets to be at his most overdramatic.

Look at that pose, he's such a drama queen.

But yeah, death comes for us all. But for the superheroes of marvel it's a small setback. So this very good show and this very good episode ironically get their impact lessened by the very media franchise they're a part of and would not exist without.

Flash back - Live Looping tribute to 90s / 2000s Racing Games

RESEARCH

My live looping project draws from the audio-visual world of late 90s / early 2000s video games from PS1 and Nintendo 64 – an aesthetic comprised of glossy graphics and postmodern settings, in which the immersive experience is often provided by up-beat, high octane soundtracks. Here are some examples of this:

Whilst researching game composers and jungle artists, one of them particularly stood out to me – Hideki Okugawa, the composer responsible for the soundtrack to all 3 Street Fighters. Here are a couple examples of his work.

I admire the intensity that Okugawa manages to capture through all his work, nevertheless, I’d like to allow for some contrasting laid-back sections to better match the ambience that I’m after. After some online research on forums, and speaking to my peers, I created a playlist of various tracks that would correspond to this aesthetic.

One of these songs is View of Life by Moonchild, which perfectly captures the nostalgic essence of old video games. The intro section lasts for just over a minute; this adds to the tension and sense of anticipation that one might experience whilst playing a high adrenalin first person shooter or racing game. I have created a mood board to display the desired tone of the project.

As much as this project is a tribute to 90s/2000s classic video games, I also wish to convey a sense of nostalgia.

Another inspiration behind this project was seeing an Instagram user create a live loop to the same aesthetic:

The style is slightly different, but it reinforces the notion that this genre has become a trend.

PROTOTYPE & REHEARSALS

In the prototype phase of this project, I made the first version of the track, which was a lot slower, and less energetic. After having delved into breakbeats and jungle, I was drawn to higher tempos, and a slightly different sound pallet.

I increased the tempo from 125 to 165 and created a new intro (inspired by the aforementioned ‘View of Life’ by ‘Moonchild’). After this I focused on highlighting melodies, rhythms and textures that would be interesting to loop whilst carrying that adrenalin fuelled, ‘racing’ narrative.

Once the arrangement had been completed, I ordered the different audio and midi regions into separate sections; these sections would then become scenes once imported into Ableton. I divided them into 10 sections (some of them repeating), before stemming each track into one of seven folders (one for each scene). I then imported them making sure to de-select warp on each track. I have added sped up screen recordings of this process in the OneDrive folder.

Originally, I had planned to play my set in the same way as Elise Trouw in this video:

She uses arrangement view to input midi notes that she has midi mapped to different functions such as record, stop, playback, loop, etc. This means that those set functions will activate automatically in relation to the timeline. which is useful for handsfree, seamless transitions. Although this is a great technique in some circumstances, it comes at the cost of freedom; I wanted my track to stay structured whilst being able to improvise melody lines and transition to whichever scene suits me in the moment.

The hardware I used to create the set comprised of a Maschine MK3 Mikro, an ableton launchpad, an RD-08 keyboard and a sustain pedal. I used a filter plugin on the stereo out and mapped the cutoff to the Maschine MK3’s fx strip in midi mode. I had originally mapped it to the keyboards modulation wheel, but I found it to be less intuitive. I also mapped the sustain pedal to control the delay feedback on the e-piano.

Should I do this again, I would like to find a way of mapping different parameters to an xbox or ps4 controller, in the spirit of the theme.

I have included a screenshot of my performance to highlight my set-up.

I set up my phone camera on top of a lamp, which worked well regarding the placement but ideally, I would like to find a more secure place to hold it as it fell several times. I would like to keep this camera angle going forwards with this type of content as it showcases the both the hardware and the way it is being used.

FINAL PERFORMANCE AND DOCUMENTATION

The final performance consisted of a one take recording with seven scenes being triggered in different orders, with four midi tracks being controlled by a keyboard and drum pad and used to improvise melodies and chords throughout the performance. The premise was to have slightly different results every take whilst retaining a sense of structure and coherence. As a result, whilst being intelligible for the listener, the piece remains original and interesting every time.

The improvised melodies reflect the motion of a video game, be it the tension of a tactical rpg or a race in a futuristic landscape. This way, the soundtrack becomes the narrative. In order to push the idea of this narrative I structured each new scene to represent a new levels or areas in a game, with the intro ramping up to the chorus, and abrupt transitions mimicking the erraticism found within these landscapes. I made use of real-time triggered effects throughout the performance to further simulate this experience.

I used a birds eye view angle to capture my interactions with the hardware and showcase exactly how the piece was constructed. In the editing of the video, I chose not to include any cuts in an effort to present the set as clearly as possible. I also included a split screen format with a portion of the screen showing gameplay from extreme g racing to make the experience more immersive. This is the final render:

Are you open to writing smut? I would love RD x Caliban smut so much. If not full on smut something a little spicy would be great. If not that's fine, keep up the good work I enjoy your fanfics a lot.

(Just to clarify: I'm not trying to shame any smut-writers out there. We all have different opinions/boundaries, and writing fictional stuff rarely ever harms anyone. I'm just explaining my own thoughts/preferences here.)

Well, I definitely DON'T write smut for several personal reasons. I did include a warning about that in my intro, but my intro is also pretty wordy in general. Apologies for that, I guess.

And as for spice...I can ocassionally make an exception or two, but that's also kinda iffy for me? Again, I have my reasons. The primary one being that these characters are fanegos. They're based off of real content-creators.

Even if said creators have no idea that I even exist, I still feel very uncomfortable at just the thought of writing raunchy stuff that would technically be in their image.

So...sorry, but no, I can't do that. (It's kind of a shame; I'm pretty sure this is only the fourth creative-focusing ask I've gotten for this whole damn year.)

Thank you for the kind words, though. Since my stories haven't been getting too much attention (*cough-cough* reblogs and comments *cough-cough*) lately, it's really nice to know that some people are still interested/reading.

However: though I'm busy with a current WIP, and have another one that revolves around something else after that, I'm still planning to write a story specifically for Caliban and R.D. somewhat soon.
